I don't agree with the video title....its a bold statement that's much more complex. Everyone lacks a degree of self control.... we are after all "human". Adapting our self control through trial and error in our life journey of circumstances defines who we are destined to become.

The problem is that You having no social intelligence causes you to lose everything that you worked for or not be able to use what you worked for because people are not going to back you up. Look at Tesla. He's a perfect example of somebody who had no social intelligence but really smart. He pretty much underperformed because of it. It's not a knock on Elon but it's just truth

Towards the end Greene said "Some one like Elon Musk lacks a degree of self control". This is referring to his emotional self control ofcourse and not referring to getting things done or accomplishing major projects. The guy is no doubt extremely intelligent, dedicated and disciplined when it comes to his business and vision. But on the emotional intelligence/human relationship side he is not as gifted that's all. Fan boys are getting too offended for no reason.

@Mwaniki Mwaniki We are at war with Canada since 400 years to save our culture. In fact Québec is older than Canada. Canada want us to desapear and to be marginalized as (an other culture among Canada) but WE ARE CANADA. If we leave Canada, Canadians as no culture left. This is one reason why Canada does not want Québec to leave. They do culture appropriation with a lot of stuff from Québec ( The Poutine for exemple). The other reason Québec wants to leave Canada is that Montréal is the biggest inland port in the world. All the goods coming from EU and some part of affrica goes to Montréal and after goes to the ROC (rest of Canada) this port only, brings more than $50B in revenu to Canada and we receive NOTHING from this. We get screwed so much financialy it's incredible. In fact it cost to Québec more than $10B per year to stay in Canada. But if we apply all the taxes and stuff that we send to Canada we could almost DOUBLE our revenu per year if we leave Canada tomorrow. We could have left in 1995 but sadly Canada cheated the referendum. And remove votes and did sabotage in vote boxes. The history of Québec need to be learned more. Sorry for my bad english 👌 Bonne journée à tous!

I like Robert Greene's books. I've read two of them. Dated, a bit repetitive in style, but useful classics. Still, he's really foolish to go on record about Elon. Musk is changing the world. Green should be commenting on that. You don't build multiple game changing companies without self control.

@Tt Fff I don't see his criticism as being entirely baseless. Self control is like walking a tight rope, and you need to have balance in order to do that. As he stated, either extreme of control can be dangerous. He is just expressing his views that Musk needs to be more balanced to have further control. But you are correct as well. Tesla is no where near being the largest auto company and would not be in the position they're in without government funding. He's decent at marketing, but not at delivering. So many things he's promised have been late like the model 3, model y, the semi and the level 5 autonomous cars he promised by now are nowhere near being viable. You can only do this so many times before people figure you out and stop buying into your ideas. If he had self control he'd not have promised many things on a short time scale he couldn't deliver on.

I don't know much about Elon but I know that there are continuations of Nikola Tesla's projects that are about to come public in Brazil concerning eletrical energy transference through the air and radiofrequency. It's only a matter of time for electric batteries lose their place in next decades. From all I've seen from Elon he is indeed ambitious, doesn't wait, and that's not too bad. But I'm afraid Robert is right on that. The circumstance of the market he's in is to be shaked in a long enough horizon. I also believe I heard some of the ventures Elon was in were subsidized and financed by the state government. Elon is pretty popular and shows up all the time in the media for others to wonder. This reminds me of a quote by Bruce Dickinson: “Fame is the excrement of creativity. It's the shit that comes from the back”

I remember reading about someone who had a high position in a big company who was on the lookout for managers who didn't want those under them to shine. He fired those types of managers. Any company that creates a type of hierarchy where each one on the artificial totem pole has the power to make sure no one under them shines will never build a tremendous company.

He’s not saying that you shouldn’t be trusting 100% in your own creativity. What he’s saying is, that when your ego is challenged, you shouldn’t allow your triggers to take control over you, because being reactive will make you lose respect, and therefore lose the power of influence, and then you’re really screwed. He’s 💯 percent right.
@marinusvz

No, but actually Elon does respond to negative criticism all the time, and try to improve. I think a lot of gifts that people have to give humanity does not get given because they're scared to let it out. So that is why I say, no, I think shooting from the hip is generally better than completely suppressing your reaction. I believe more in: 'hit the iron while it is hot'. Suppressing yourself too much wastes a lot of time. Authenticity is king. If you don't participate, it doesn't work. If you do not communicate, you are wrong by default. Life is art: at some point you must stop sitting and thinking about it and you must do it. Anything is generally better than nothing, even if it is not perfect. Sometimes, in terms of the iterative process, it is even better when it is not perfect at first. Sooner is better than later.

Could it be they're threatened? =O Even if you disagree, tell me, who is innovating better than Musk? Call it a dream or whatever you'd like, but so was the internet, so was modern medicine, the computer and the car. Robert Greene is wrong, because he doesn't understand Elon's scientific, analytical process. What he sees as a person who lacks self-control is actually a person who is highly competent and willing to put himself out there in a self-assured way. Greene is just extrapolating his personal experience with that failed CEO/public company.

I think everybody has their own capacity for thinking broad. When we speak about Elon he is very much different than average extraordinary people. I think this is wrong when we call him not a self controller. His vision is so high and his philosophy is completely different than other human beings. That is why some times we make a strong question about his activity by our practices.

Self control = self responsibility. When this becomes something people want to work for and obtain because they understand how valuable an asset it is, that’s when society starts to improve and we’re on our way to experiencing harmony as more of the norm rather than a rare occurrence.

Elon is unlike most in that he has many uncommon strengths, which inspires some and irritates others who become jealous, e.g., Robert. The first time I saw this was with the irrational attacks on Ayn Rand, who had some blind spots in her personal life due to past trauma. She got no understanding, no compassion from her critics, only bitter exploitation, which said more about them than her. Extraordinarily creative people are generally hated/envied by most and loved by a few. Living life to the fullest leaves no time to pander to the insecure. That pisses the insecure off. But it doesn't matter unless you let yourself be distracted. What matters is staying true to yourself, focusing on your goals, taking responsibility by thinking for yourself.

If you don't see how brilliantly Elon has scaled Tesla, you have to smoking some kind of shit. You really do. Ten years ago, they just had one little car on the road that sold a couple thousand vehicles, at max. And right now, Tesla just sold 367k vehicles in the past year with 112k in the last quarter. If you don't see how Tesla is YEARS AHEAD of the traditional auto companies in terms of aesthetics, battery technology and more importantly, autonomy. The guy who had one little car that was made using the chasse of another car has cars on the road right now that are fully capable of driving themselves. Even if we don't even consider what Elon has done with SpaceX, he's pretty much a hero. I don't know what your opinion comes from, Robert. But not ever guy is the same.

Elon went too quickly? He knows Tesla started out very slow with the Roadster, perfected that and then started to make small incremental changes until he got to the model S, right? Elon had a plan and you can't dominate without a plan and self control. Everyone else slept while he slowly dominated the world. The only reason people like Robert think he's moving too fast is because they're used to moving slower just to get the job done. One day we all woke up and said who the hell is this guy? It's as if Elon said, I told you who I was and what I wanted to do but you all laughed at me and ignored me. It only seems like I just came on the scene but I've been here the whole time...standing right beside you.

All you Elon Musk fanboys need to relax a little bit. Remember that Robert has spend many years and thousands upon thousands of hours studying human nature. He sees the smallest subtleties in human behaviour that is completely invisible to regular people like the rest of us. So when he makes the kind of statements that he does, it's from that standpoint. And to be fair, at the end he said "...Elon Musk lacks a degree of self control". The title of this video is a bit over exaggerated.

This guy is a collectivist character straight out of "Atlas Shrugged", and Elon Musk is John Galt. Read the book. When Mr. Greene (Ironically appropriate) stated that he was part of a board that got a man fired, because he was crude and yelled at people; it told me everything I needed to know.
@davidevans3175
@davidevans3175 3 года назад
Mr. Greene doesn't know what "control" means. He thinks "self-control" means restraint. In other words, to stop. Control actually means "directed action". To be able to start, change and stop things. So Elon Musk is extremely good at controlling things, that's whey he's successful. He CAN control things. He's controlling SpaceX, Tesla and a variety of other things.
