Elon Musk keeps roasting MBA graduates, he think they don't know anythings, they are parachuted into high management positions without any knowledge. Its my time to defend MBAs. Being an MBA and having worked with many MBAs from the top IIMs of India, XLRI, SPJIMR and even Harvard MBAs I have a few contrasting opinions.

Partly agree with Elon Musk and most of the point you made too Shouvik bhai. I feel MBA should make Work Experience compulsory at least 3-4 years like it is in Foreign B-schools. Many of us who have work experience know from ground up situation and the technical aspects of the project too. Many times I see in my meetings the Management has no clue what actually happens on ground. They come up with absurd proposals which contributes nothing to overall productivity of the project but increases the work load on us ( who work in the trenches ) I feel the leaders who have come ground up make huge impact like Henry Ford a great engineer and a great manager as well. Same with Jensen Huang current CEO of Nvidia. MBA Is not a waste degree but you should have an idea of the core technical aspects too of the product. That makes a deadly combo.

elon is right,he has criticized it in past also, indian mba schools are very much academic profile oriented, because they work as placement agency, that is why they dont have prominent businesses coming out from iims,if you look at iit entrance it is also gameable you just have to score 40-50% to get into top iits and many students who are not very good academically get into ,eg Deepender of zomato he was a consistent low scorer failed his school failed in iit because he opened a food joint when he was at iit he was able to break into bain ,just give it a thought will students who are bad in academics can get into top iims? because they are the once who can take the risk of not siting for placement, most probably they will be coming from t 4,5,6 cities just like Deepender or vss, happilo founder, noise founder, but iims prefer student's who r from upper middle class tier 1,2 cities, conformist ,and pretentious.

Totally agree with you Dada. It has become a fashion to mock MBAs nowadays. But they do bring immense value to the table and people forget that communication skills and soft skills are far more required in day to day life than just technical mundane stuff. It may be that a technical person is a good manager but that is not a standard rule. But an MBA is meant to be a good manager because he has gone through what you mentioned about the B School life and that accountability is always is his head. Keep going with these kind of videos, narratives like these should be countered.

For the companies that elon musk has started working in them require one to align with his great vision and a kind of risk taking capacity that is not taught in MBAs. Most MBAs are about sales, marketting and finance, while a company like tesla is about introducing new tech while maximising profits takes a backseat here. So, from his perspective hiring MBAs will not help him immensely, while chosing leaders from the existing pool of employees who understand his vision will deliver what the owner really wants and that is certainly not maximising shareholder value. People in MBAs are so hassled that they conceive new out of the box ideas, it is all about implementing the established norms. So, it all depends on the perspective.

Can you give me your opinion?? I feel that after going for higher degrees like an MBA, most people get into this zone to work under corporates (having cutthroat competition).. they do earn too much but if someone wants to do small business or be self-employed that much skills are not needed... I mean it's like modern slavery (with too much reward) but at some point in life if a person wants free time it'd be challenging to quit that job as we are conditioned to do complex tasks from a young age and it doesn't feel right to quit and start something new at our mid-age... I just feel this way, I've no idea if It is true or not... Can you share some opinions or yours or your colleague's? Who thought that going easy at a young age (but consistent toward one thing) would be better for them... maybe too much of this creates burnout (mental) when living in such a competitive world. I am asking this because sometimes I feel too much pressure at a young age is good for youth but it can also cause burnout and other mental problems in them later in life.

I think he is saying right from his standpoint may be in European top b school provide such job profiles , experience can beat easily any top b school students , cause ground reality comes from such harsh experiences .but from my perspective for India value of degree is more then experience person , I hope this will change
