He called it a flamethrower at first (which it’s absolutely not) but changed the name to NOT a flamethrower to get around certain laws that would allow the company to be able to ship without any legal road bumps.
To be fair, folks might have assumed Musk was being silly when he called it "Not-a-flamethrower" rather than accurately describing the product. Then again, lots of folks don't know blowtorches and flamethrowers are in fact different things.
I sorta feel like he missed the point.... I believe "overpriced" is even in the description on the sale page. Surely you understand why this exists, right?
So, the question is : Can this be modified / upgraded to not-a-not-a-flamethrower performance? A new nozzle? Something actually fed into the thing via the "not-a-magazine-well"..?
To convert it you would have to change the fuel type to more of a liquid or gel, as well as add a pump to pressurize it so you don't just end up with a flaming puddle in front of your shoes.
a real flamethrower doesnt just spit out flames it throws flammable fuel like a water blaster that ignites as its being thrown out, resulting in the fire reaching really long distances and being extremely dangerous
Okay so what if instead of shooting a gaseous form of propane/butane, it shoots a stream of supercooled liquid butane which is then ignited to increase the range sharply.
You know the company purchased the gun case from an airsoft gun manufacturer which is why it still has the automatic semi automatic switch and magazine slot
I mean its baicly an overlgorified propane torch, because the government wont let you get proper flamethrowers, however I believe this fact is pretty clear in the product description.
Musk made this as a novelty item... it’s a cool, kind of a jokey, limited edition type gun thing that he even says it’s basically a roofing torch! Any SERIOUS reviews on this thing is silly and moronic.
Silly propane torch, until you modify it with a laser induced plasma pressure / vacuum channel super-thin, to approach a pseudo teleforce telethermal electrostatic-flamethrower. Even in its current form you could mess someone up pretty badly if you had nothing else and no martial arts training.
