I guess you didn't do your homework regarding Cybertruck. 48 volt low voltage distribution (smaller wires, less weight), distributed controllers in doors, tailgate, seats, etc. (minimizes wire run lengths, less weight, reduces wiring installation time), bidirectional ethernet bus connecting distributed controllers and audio speakers), and steer by wire (front/rear). Do any of the other trucks you mention incorporate those technologies?

@8:50 a new statement for the rest of the industry? At least two completely new revolutionary technologies (#2 and #7) plus many other improvements to the bread. These are all just off the top of my head. 1 - Fastest accelerating truck ever (ok, I think that is a party trick, not important). 2 - 48 volt low voltage system, reducing high wattage low voltage conductor weight by 84%. By itself, this is revolutionary. Tesla even sent a how-to primer to other companies. 3 - 800+ high voltage battery system, provides good performance even at lower (30%) charge. Not unique, at the current price point, but that is temporary. I expect prices to fall up to 20% by mid 2025 and more later. It will be unique to trucks priced less than 50K USD 4 - Able to adjust between 5" to 17" nominal clearance 5 - unpainted, super tough exterior. (we'll have to see how it holds up over time and in various environments) 6 - smaller than an F-150, but more cargo space and longer bed than most common F150 variant. 7 - Steer by wire. Other maybes, could be a bell weather for change or a mistake: 1 - cameras can make center rear view and side mirrors obsolete (technically, yes, but I like mirrors) 2 - Auxiliary battery pack proposed to satisfy folks whose primary use of the truck is towing. Either way, battery capacity, availability and cost improvements will eventually make this as unnecessary as it is awkward. 3 - introduction of the super-minimalistic iPad on wheels concept to the truck cabin. (actually, what is a Rivian R1T interior like? I know they have a similar screen, not sure about the other controls, though I suspect Tesla is ahead in the race to remove physical controls), again, not sure how I feel about this. 4 - highly water resistant body and battery pack, makes short trek over deep water less problematic. Great if you've got yourself in a bind, but bad if it mostly encourages Jack Asses to be stupid.

The way you describe this is so backwards that I don't really believe you don't know it and are just doing it to bait comments. Ok, I'll bite. Nobody is "demanding" anything from Elon Musk...People are exercising their right to advertise or *not* advertise on the platform (as all free individuals and companies can do in a free society). I am under no obligation to support you if you are promoting racial tropes....especially about a people that were *WITHOUT QUESTION* the subjects of the most direct and violent attempt to wipe out an ethnic group in recorded history (the Holocaust because I know you probably don't read all that history stuff). Whether Elon Musk has recently started believing this crap or did all along and just kept quiet until he was rich enough that he could go on these tirades with impunity I can't say. What I do know is that for years I looked up to him for what I believed was his vision, drive and determination in the face of opposition from entrenched legacy players. I am not a 'fanboy' however, and so as he started showing his true colors I admitted that he had fooled me into believing in him, but no more. It's not easy to admit that you've been had...which is why a lot of people will just stay on the Musk Train. "No, he didn't fool me...he's just kidding, that's just Elon...hahaha" Those are all the same excuses made for people that seemingly start out as reasonable and appear to go off the rails. In most cases, they never were to begin with...you were just fooled and they are counting on your pride not allowing you to say it enough for you to stop supporting them. People like that will never wake up...no matter how much evidence you show them. So, to be clear...I'm not trying to convince you that the reality is the opposite of what you're saying here. I'm just pointing out that it is.

I think you are too rough with the Cybertruck, yes it's not matching the hype but that's "okay". The Cybertruck is still pushing the envelope a lot. For anyone in IT the CAN bus network used in 99.9999% of the care are soo outdated and soo slow, it make no sense, it dates from 1983 and hasn't evolved much. Imagine a computer network using communication protocol of 1983 because it's "good enough". The Etherloop used in the Cybertruck is the first big change since 40 years ago (that I know of) and it is a big deal. The bulletproof alloy might sounds like a gimmick now, but it might also be the first step, I have no idea, but it's innovative for sure. 800V might be different than what Porsche is doing, etc. I don't know everything about the CyberTruck but saying it's not innovative doesn't seems correct. In any case it's too early to say one way or the other, time will tell us.

You forgot the 48 volt architecture and the steer by wire. They also do not have the 4680 cells perfected yet. The way things are going, Tesla is managing to build enough cars to satisfy most of the world and if the others pull out like they are currently, Tesla will be the biggest car company by the end of the decade. The reason they are pulling out is they just cannot figure out how to make a better or even equal car to Tesla for the same price. Range is not everything either. I see many with great range, but at the cost of huge batteries that quite frankly take longer to charge and cost more to charge. Nobody seems to hit on this, instead just talking about range.

@Nicholas.T
@Nicholas.T 6 месяцев назад
Let’s be clear here… 48V architecture may be of benefit to a manufacturer such as Tesla in reducing production costs of their vehicles (through the reduction of copper wiring weight, etc) however… It makes NO DIFFERENCE to the owner of such a vehicle! There is NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever in the way a 48V vehicle operates or performs, compared to a conventional 12v vehicle, in so far as the owner/driver will notice!! For example, the driver will not notice whether the window winder motor is a 12v or 48v unit… It will open and close in exactly the same way !!

The vast majority of CT users will not drive 600 miles on a daily basis. In the best scenario one should not haul around heavy batteries that will get them more mileage than they will use on a daily basis. 600 miles is more that the average person can drive without a rest break. For most people it would be wasteful to store more than about 300 miles worth of energy per charge. If you really are a masochist, you can always get a Range Extender.
@MrTaxiRob
@MrTaxiRob 6 месяцев назад
then they don't need a truck to begin with, and the whole point of EVs is lost when they buy something that consumes as many resources as Cybertruck does. It still needs fuck!ng roads to drive on, and it will kill more people in collisions due to its ridiculous mass. You know, that one thing all you Tesla nuts claimed was wrong with Hummer EV...
@wincoffin7985
@wincoffin7985 6 месяцев назад
Basically I agree about the extra weight aspect . . . but, I would love a high-range EV (500 or even 600 miles) anyway. The common argument that you "need a break" so why the need for so much range -- well, it's not really a good argument. Every charge slows the trip down, esp if you include the time it takes just to get to the charger (not unusual for the superchargers to be a bit out of the way). It adds up. I find my frequent trips between summer & winter homes (VA to FL, 700 miles) to require 14 hours. My partner with an ICE car does it in 12. That's a big difference. But what if I only had to charge once? I'd make it in about 12. Also, esp out West, you can't always find a charger (I was a bit stressed in traveling through Wyoming, for example), so that extra range would have been really nice. (And I was driving a 300+ mile Tesla at the time.). I guess the real solution is to "wait" for higher density batteries. What, 5 years away?

The F-150 Lightning is more of an improvement over an ICE Truck then the Cybertruck is. The biggest Disadvantage of an ICE Truck is the Trunk. Some have Boxes etc. But the F-150 Lightning has a big Frunk which is a big as most normal Trunks with 400 Liters or 14.1 cubic Feet. Thats a normal Sedan Trunk size. The Cybertruck will have a Frunk of the Size of a Super Mini with 250-280 Liters or 9 Cubic Feet. The Ford Mach-E made the Frunk an Ice Cooler and easy to wash out, but had to have the divider, because of the size, Tesla simply made a smaller Frunkt to avoid the regulation.. . With a F-150 Lightning you get a Truck + a Sedan in one Car. With the Cybertruck a Truck + a Supermini in one Car and Stainless Steel. That the Cybertruck will be the better BEV, no question, but the Better Vehicle is the F-150 Lightning. And that is something Tesla has to compete with, poeple want to buy good cars not feel good Green Sentiment, especially as those are the Progressive he now has bad mouthed on X/Twitter. The F-150 lightning sells dropps after each Tesla Announcement, but it is out there and Cybertruck has to compete against it, the cheapest Cybertruck Version will hit the road in 2025, till then the F-150 is 20k cheaper and the better Truck.

I don't think having a vehicle with 500 or 600 miles of range makes a lot of sense. For every kg of battery you add to extend the range, you have to add a little more to carry the weight of the extra battery. Then more to carry that extra weight. It's not hugely exponential, but it's not linear. And for 99% of people and 99% of the time, that amount of range isn't needed. So you're taking the hit on efficiency nearly all of the time to drag all that extra weight around. And the extra weight means going through tires even faster and more wear and tear on the suspension and steering, etc. And you paid an extra $15 grand for capacity you don't need. You might argue they could just offer an additional trim level with the higher range. Not really worth the extra tooling cost and hit to production speed of the assembly line for the *maybe* 50 people willing to pay extra for the extra range. In a typical week I drive 250 miles. For many people it's considerably less. 300ish miles of range means most could get by with charging just 1 or 2 times a week if they don't feel like doing it nightly. For road tripping, unless there's some unusual urgency, I usually want a break every 3 or 4 hours anyway. If that doesn't work for you, rent an ICE vehicle for all those trips with the $15 grand you saved by not getting the extended range. If you're the 1% that needs to tow something like a high drag coefficient trailer a fair distance on a regular basis - don't buy an electric pickup truck. None of them are going to meet your needs. Buy a diesel. Maybe things will change in 5 or 10 years, but for now that's your best alternative.

I wouldn't count Elon out. I respect anyone who calls out Robert Iger, the liar-in-chief and worst CEO Disney ever had, who is single handedly destroying a once great company and is tone deaf to his customers. Many people have publicly attacked Elon, and I think he's earned the right to verbally fight back against Iger and his ilk. His critics havent even come close to his success. He produced viable EV's when everyone else said it couldn't be done, and so far Tesla is the largest EV producer on the planet. And for over 50 years NASA said you could not have rockets that can land veritcally on a pad, and he proved them wrong. Given his track record I see no problem if he misses the mark sometimes. Innovators often have failures because they are not afraid of taking risks. And he restored real freedom of speech to Twitter. I'm not in the market for an EV, but if I was, I wouldn't consider any other brand than Tesla.

Actually 48 volt is bigger than you think. Cheaper to build, way less complicated wiring, less copper, and wires to things like the steering motors can be 1/4 the gauge. All vehicles will go that way in the future, and Cybertruck won't become obsolete like 6 Volt cars and trucks did when that switch occurred. Aircraft have been steer by wire for decades. the 800 volt charging will also become standard over time, so that's a nice thing for CT to have. @@DanDeGaston
@DanDeGaston
@DanDeGaston 6 месяцев назад
@@richardalexander5758 Hold up, I think we are talking about two different things. 48Volts is a big deal to help reduce manufacturing costs, reduce inefficiencies in the wiring or reduce a couple pounds of copper weight. 48V batteries are definitely a big step in the right direction from a manufacturing perspective. But your initial post states "enough real technology to justify the extra price and lower range." (With 48V as 1 of the 2 examples). This assumes that customers would be willing to pay extra money for a 48V internal architecture. For the actual car owner, who cares about a couple extra lbs of copper or slightly less efficient low voltage architechture. . . Sure it has an effect. . . But this is negligible at the individual car owner perspective. My thoughts in short - 48V is a good move in the right direction from a manufacturing standpoint, but as a car buyer, I wouldn't pay more money for the car as it barely affects me personally. I believe your comment was directed at the personal choice to buy the car and not the manufacturing side. The drive by wire system. I would pay extra for this, but that is likely less than $1500. It is a cool system that allows for a tighter turning radius. But it is also a lot of extra parts with possible failure points. Mostly this is a cool solution to a problem I don't have.

Why everyone is skipping past hybrids in favor of EVs is mind boggling. Hybrids are road proven, they dismantle range anxiety, and they are about 1000lbs lighter. Making them switchable would be even better, being able to cut off one or the other power mode on demand would probably expand their popularity with both ICE and on-the-fence-about-EV buyers. Yes, traditional auto are leagues behind but Lucid is definitely giving Tesla a run for it's money on the efficiency \ engineering front. I honestly don't think Elon is going anywhere. They do it to avoid being targeted by this cancel culture we've gotten into and then when the dust settles they sneak back in like nothing ever happened. It's almost like EV advocates don't understand the automobile market as well as the people who have been in it for over 100 years...there was only one Model T, only one Beatle, etc, because there was only enough room in the market for one of them at a time. EVs aren't as popular with the public as you'd like them to be, that's just a reality you need to engage with. Tesla is the most popular among them and basically satisfies all of the demand for that product. Light trucks now account for approximately 60% of all vehicles on the road, did you even know that? Maybe if the Cybertruck had as wide of an aesthetic appeal as Tesla's more normal looking vehicles.. oh well, there's always the already best selling truck in electric form if you want that, and it is backed by a dealer service network. Turns out that sh!t matters to people who already buy the most popular truck. Maybe you should study the market a little more closely, just like Elon Musk should have. Tesla is hitting market saturation, and even banning ICEs won't help when Tesla isn't producing the TYPE of vehicle that consumers want. Cybertruck is a sh!tty design exercise and ego flex, it won't get Joe Sixpack to work with all the tools and materials that he needs to install your solar roof.
