Some people will ABSOLUTELY spend all day in the meta verse if it means they can be someone different than their normal life (attractive, successful, smart, entertaining, athletic etc).

We want and need real connection. We have already taken "social" media too far in a direction that has become self destructive. People feel that.

This made me think how weird it would be spending like 8 hours in an actual developed metaverse then getting like hungry and having to go back to reality lol

I totally agree with his statement. I play shooting games all day long but there’s something different about firing a real gun. Anyone can buy a racing game and drive a Ferrari but driving a Ferrari in real life is a lot more fun. You can have a delicious meal in Red dead redemption but you’re still going to go to McDonald’s later. Real life will always be better than anything digital. Because real suffering is better than fake joy.

To be fair, we didn’t think we’d be having phones in our faces all day either, but here we are.

Not to be that person, but…. I’m deeply concerned about how the meta verse will impact people’s mental and emotional health. Some will become addicted for sure ❤️

Metaverse to me seems like a place for awkward people to feel cool, and no one is more Awkward than Mark Zuckerberg.

If I had billions I'd also say "fvck the metaverse" and go travel, eat expensive foods, buy a nice house, buy a motorbike, get pets, stay at 5 star hotels, go mountain climbing etc. But not all of us have billions to afford such life. So we stay at home, watch movies, play games, scroll through shorts, watch famous people' drama, study, work from home, etc.

I don’t think this is ever going to be something you just wear all day. It will be something to have experiences with from time to time. Watching movies, using your computer, games, online dating, virtual meeting, etc.

It will be the new reality for people. And when the mind thinks something is real, it cannot escape it.

A few years ago it would have been absurd to believe that billions of people would walk around all day with one arm in the air and their hand in from of there face. Yet, hear we are.

I couldn't imagine a day where people were walking in a park, yet staring at a computer screen the whole time. And yet that is exactly what people already do. Having it on your head instead of looking down on your phone, no longer seems unreasonable. Sad, but that's the world we live in now.

I really enjoy meeting people in person and actually hanging out and interacting with others. This Metaverse stuff is for hardcore Introverts & agoraphobics, they would absolutely love & thrive in a virtual only environment!...

He said he couldn't see people having a headset on NOT wanting to EVER leave. Keyword there is "ever". Don't compare his statement to being glued to a phone screen all day. Even we get bored with our phones.

A couple decades ago, if people were told that they'd be carrying small portable devices wherever they went and that they would stare at those said devices for the majority of their lives, people would scoff at the idea. They'd probably say things like, who would want to stare at a screen all day? Won't that make your eyes go bad? Won't it be an inconvenience to carry said devices everywhere you go? People have a life to live instead of just staring at the said devices.... So don't just scoff at new innovations and inventions even if someone smart tells you otherwise. The smartest people in the world were sure Google would just flop, that the internet was a phase that would die out. Even the smartest human in the world can be wrong when change catches up to them so don't believe them unconditionally, they're humans too afterall.

We are human beings last I checked, we need to struggle and strain our intellect as we do our bodies to maintain strength and resilience, bloated sponges bobbing around in the metaverse is quite possibly the worst thing we could do. Go out and build something, ride something, and explore your world while you have the strength to do it

metaverse can only used for education and understanding concepts practically to students. So VR headset would be for temporary duration use.

We probably used to say the same when someone brought in the idea of a smart phone or social media. Look at how much time we spend using them. Metaverse is the future. Elon should have shown a bit of support considering he, too, thinks about turning impossibilities into possibilities.

I mean we kinda are, the only difference is that we don't have screens strapped to our head but metaphorically to our hands. Society has become obsessed to being on social media to the point that their phonees become a part of their life (they can't live without it).

One of the many problems with the Metaverse is that not many consumers asked for it. We already have VRChat, a better version of Metaverse, which you’re not expected to be living/playing in all day. We already have a handful of three different brands of headsets for hundreds of VR games. Zuckerberg made mistake of rushing out a bad product that tries to imitate better ones, in a market that’s already filled with competent competitors and better products. When I saw the footage for the Metaverse, and the expectations behind it, I knew it would fail on arrival.

The idea that the guy behind Neuralink would downplay this is pretty hilarious. His own proposed tech would make this a reality and he’s already used restoring vision to the blind as a possible application.

He sounds like the internet skeptics, and people who said tv was just a fad cause people wouldnt have enough time to watch it.

The phone for young people is about 1 foot away all day. Moving it 8 inches closer does not seem like much of a stretch.

Someone might've said the same thing about glasses, or mobile phones. It's not that simple to predict the future, people adapt with changing times.

My husband never puts his phone down and I know a lot of people like that so I think that people would definitely fall into that easily.

When the TV came out it was predicted to fail because it was thought that people would get bored just sitting down in front of it all day.

Beyond the virtual aspect, he makes a good point of the physical discomfort. Even with hard-core gamers, they can at least move around. With VR glasses, you're literally trapped with no option to navigate around your space without a possible accident. Especially if the goal is to spend a good amount of time in the metaverse

The next big thing with be AR not VR. VR is too much of a shift for society where AR is the bridge in between which will lead to VR having a stronger foot hold in the world.

I'm already in the Metaverse all day, don't have a VR headset so far but I'm in front of my TV and phone all the time without going outside since years because I'm feeling so miserable (only going out a couple of times a year for grocery shopping)

In the future they will be contact lenses, used mostly for AR and replacing smartphones. VR to play games, teleconference and consume media.

Elon Musk never met a vrchat user. Those people literally only take their headset off to go to work. They eat, sleep, and... you know, in vr

But they are okay staring into a screen they are holding in their hand all day without leaving but the problem comes when you obscure the vision of reality because they dont feel grounded anymore in life.
