Eloy is not only a "HeAvY hItTeR", you guys are just too proud and ignorant to search about it. Eloy has melody, perfect tempo, creativity, and basically lives and breathes the instruments, he dedicated his LIFE to studying drums. He has everything a drummer needs and more. He is as a fact as good as Joey technically. Eloy was ellected by Drumeo the best metal drummer in the world twice in a sequence. You simply can not, I repeat, you SIMPLY CAN'T say "he sucks", or "hes bad" without being wrong. I know some of you prefer Jay, and that's no problem. But saying Jay is better is _technically_ wrong.
Man I love Jay but I feel like he lacked a little of the crispness and imagination that Joey had. I think Eloy HAS that. Slipknot has been pissing me off lately, but I think this is a step in the right direction.
I saw an interview with Jim Root recently and he said something to the effect, that they were in the process of writing new material that “would be worthy” of a drummer with his abilities and that they were very fortunate to have him.
I've never been a Knot fan ever since they came out because the drums where too fast that there where almost no visible notes to here, but now that Eloy is drumming I definitely appreciate and enjoy to hear their Metalness that their is a decent heavy groove that is flairing now 🤘🤘🤘 long live NU METAL 🤘🤘🤘
Scuffed take. It's not like this is some new song, or new sound from Slipknot. This is off of their first album (Self-Titled). Eloy is incredible, but he's just playing Joey's parts here, and doing it incredibly well I might add. They hired Eloy because he plays with a similar kind of power, aggression, speed, technicality, & energy, etc. as Joey. It's also no secret that Joey was a big influence on Eloy, as he was to all of us young metal drummers of the time. Just say you didn't open your mind & ears to actually give the band a chance the first time, and now you have a bias toward liking them because a drummer you're a fan of joined the band. That's all fine dude. Enjoy yourself. Just know that the grooves were *_always_* "flairing", and the notes were *_always_* there for you to hear. You just chose not to hear them. It's not a "now that Eloy is drumming I can hear the notes, and the flaring groove" thing youre experiencing right now. You're just hearing Joey's parts being played by another good drummer who's playing said parts well. The final thing you should know is that while Eloy is likely the closest we can get to Joey playing these legendary songs, *_nobody_* can play them like Joey did. Eloy would tell you the same thing himself, and so would Jay. You can't say something like that until they release music that they wrote with Eloy, because it doesn't make any sense otherwise. And when that happens you still have to understand that, while there will undoubtedly be some of Eloy's sound incorporated, he will still be following the precedent set by Joey, and the Slipknot drum style he created. I recommend going back, listening to their previous albums, and giving them another chance so you can understand. 'Self-Titled' up to 'All Hope is Gone' is Joey Jordison on drums (the original), '.5: The Gray Chapter' up to the most recent album 'The End So Far' is Jay Weinberg on drums. Also the Disasterpieces DVD is a must-watch so you can see Joey, and Slipknot perform at their absolute peak (it's on YT). There is a lot more to Slipknot than you thought, man. You'll be surprised. And if you *_really_* want to hear a mindfu!k, then listen to the album from before they were signed called "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.". Just keep in mind that Anders is the vocalist on that album as Corey hadn't joined the band yet, so the vocals will be much different. Well, almost everything is much different tbh. Very Mr. Bungle inspired. Anyway, I wasn't trying to be hostile, just being straight forward. I hope you enjoy your venture into Slipknot. Sure, there are fast drums in Slipknot, but there's much more to the drums & the band as a whole than just that. 🤘
@xenophagia it's weird cause I've never liked how Eloy quite added his technicalities in Sepultura. When he got with Knot there's a crisp going on in the sound
He’s definitely got the energy, Jay was fun but he didn’t have much of that let’s go kill energy, but he kept it professional and didn’t stray away from the music, nothing will beat Joey obviously
Absolute perfection and thump like I have never heard before. Finally someone who depends the bass on the multi pedals and kicks. The x4 kicks are so well tuned along with every other piece of kit is truly amazing. I bet he was developing this kit with Tama for the last two -3 years. I had a vision today of the band seeing that kit and him grooving on it and them being in tears, from the level of emotions and goosebumps at that very moment. History has just been made and glad to witness it! Cheers
First off, Joey was just as explosive, especially with his kick drums. Second, the drums in the band have *_always_* "depend(ed) on the bass, the multi pedals, and kicks" and Joey is the one who set the Precedent for the drum style & sound in the band. Third, The kick always thumps at Slipknot shows regardless of the drummer because it's triggered, mic'd, and mixed. Fourth, while Eloy is a very powerful, and all around incredible drummer (one of the best), the main reason you're able to hear the natural, un-mic'd sound of the kit & kick drum over the sound system is because Slipknot is playing at a small venue here for once. It was a special event. You will absolutely not be able to hear that at any of their normal sized shows no matter how hard Eloy plays. Fifth, the other two kick drums are just for show. Sixth, there was no need to "develop this kit for two-3 years" just because there are two more kicks for visual purposes, and because it sounds good. If you know how to tune drums, and use the right heads, it's easy to make even the most low-end kits sound excellent. Multiply that if you have a good sound system, and a good sound guy. Eloy didn't even know he'd be playing in Slipknot 2-3 years ago. All Eloy had to do was order the specifications he wanted. This kit, while nice, and does sound good, isn't special. Anyone can order the exact same kit from Tama, or any music store. Finally, the first part of your comment is cringy, but the little "I had a vision today of the band seeing that kit and him grooving on it and them being in tears, from the level of emotions and goosebumps at that very moment." part of your comment is *_beyond_* cringe-inducing. Wtf even was that? Lay off the estrogen, man. That shit is ruining your brain.
They are , you'll also notice most the raving Eloy fans are Brazilian, it's barely even Knot anymore. But I'll wait and see what the new album sounds like. Maybe I'll be shocked by this Eloy magic 😏
I will tell you what happened. They said it was a creative descision and by listening to the way eloy plays it makes sense now. It was never personal. Jay plays their songs at a faster tempo than what they are on the actual albums. Eloy is playing the songs exactly like the album, the way joey played. Apparently that is what slipknot wanted. It really is not complicated. Craig retired quietly just like i always thought he would (Because he has always been private) chris was fired because he wanted more money. Joey was fired under complicated circumstances and he never blamed slipknot for it. Joey had a disease that was wearing on his abaility to play. Roadrunner wanted .5 asap and joey could not play, but was to prideful to admit why he needed more time. Therefore they threatened to drop the band if they did not replace him. Also the founding members of slipknot was paul grey and clown. We have not lost a founding member since paul as clown is the only one left. People need to chill the fuck out and appreciate that they are still around even tho they really could have stopped after iowa.
Yeah sure, Eloy is better for slipknot tho Jay is great for some subgenres of metal, but for slipknot? No, he rushes too much, it just doesn't feel like slipknot. Now it does with Eloy, who'sm much more melodic... And was ellected the best metal drummer in the world by Drumeo twice, in a sequence.
Joey was a pioneer in metal drumming, but Eloy is FAR superior to him. Just wait until they start writing and you will see. I can't wait for some Brazilian rhythm's in their new stuff.
Eloy is a much more well-rounded drummer and has an objectively more precise control of tempo and volume. Idk wtf you are smoking but talk to any pro drummers and they will say the same.
