That was nuts. Up until now I didn't even try to picture how ELP originally managed to play Tarkus. When the album came out I just heard something assault me from the vinyl via the speakers. It sure sounded like an anthem for going to war.

@@aliasreco To Ali Asreco: I don't know how spiritual Emerson, Lake was, or even Palmer is now. It seems, that from some of their music, a semblance of spirituality would have had some influence on them. These are the ones who should get an opportunity for a resurrection. The premise is that many, who are slightly toward the unrighteous side, or spiritually stagnant, may see opportunities in the future. ◄ Acts 24:15 ► English Standard Version having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust. ◄ Matthew 5:45 ► King James Bible That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

I feel lucky to have seen ELP a few times back in the day. I saw the tour where Emerson strapped himself into his bench seat and the piano and him spun around while he played and palmers drum set spun around in a circle during his solo. Also had Quad speaker set up on floor of civic center. Blew our minds!!!

I’m so jealous! I remember seeing that on the broadcast of California Jam. Totally mind-blowing. My only experience seeing them was on the Works tour *after* they had disbanded the orchestra. Disappointing, but still really amazing. (It was strange. I only heard about the concert by a DJ mentioning that they would be around sometime after playing Fanfare. I went home and checked and they were playing in town THAT NIGHT! He must have wanted to give a shout out, but because they hadn’t bought any ads couldn’t do more than that.)

One of my favorites, former musician. I'll tell you-that is a difficult song to play-with any resemblance to the studio version. When testing new speakers, this first, Karnevil 9, 1st, Movement, King Crimson Red, Lark's Tounges in Aspic 2, one thing. I've heard many covers of this song-best drum performance of any cover. This guy quite properly '' attacks '' this song. Cymbal selection excellent. Well done..........

One thing only would take the whole thing to an even higher plane, I reckon: Keith Emerson, along with Jon Lord and a few of the other truly great rock organists, knew the secret of really crisp phrasing that the best classical (pipe) organists brought to the likes of Bach fugues and such: the single most important thing is to lift *off* each note at the exact moment when it stops being essential.

Playing the bass drum part with two feet gives it a power and fullness that the original never had. Also, the drum sound is superb. The multi-keyboard playing is fantastic and everyone's understanding of the song is so solid. . . A great rendition of a very difficult bit of music. Except for adding a singer so you could do the whole thing, I don't see how it could be improved. Fantastic.

Terrific playing! I will never forget the first time I heard ELP - I think "Tank" is the first album track I heard at a friend's house sometime late 1970 to early 71 and I ran right out and bought the album for myself. I must have heard Lucky Man on the radio first but "Tank" was the tune that sparked me to buy the album. I had never before heard anything like that Moog at the end of the tune 🤩

Very nicely done guys! I like the intensity, a bit more than the original - but pushing it sounds good. I see the concentration in all of your faces and remember the five times I saw ELP in concert and the almost relaxed look when they played the opening of Tarkus. That in itself shows the magnitude of Keith, Carl and Greg's talent! Thank you all for your work and dedication to the art. Oh, and I'm an 30 year recording engineer that has worked with the likes of Mannheim Steamroller and Stevie Ray Vaughan and your mixes are very well done as well… Hear Hear!
@jburgess9578
@jburgess9578 7 лет назад
When I saw ELP, that relaxed appearance resulted in a performance (by Emerson and Lake) that fell short of the quality of their studio recordings. (I never saw Carl Palmer at anything less than 100%). What Messrs. Baril, Pacaud, & Gregoire have accomplished here amounts to a live performance that is technically, and to my ear, musically, perfect. Gentlemen, you are virtuosos, second to none. Congratulations on this video. Make an album. Make several albums. And please do not hire a singer. A singer would detract from the perfection.
@maxwdg
@maxwdg 7 лет назад
Mr Burgess, I agree, I've NEVER seen Carl "phone it in." He always seemed as though he was bringing it ALL to each performance. Greg? Well, he's a bass player in addition to straight up guitar virtuoso. Bass players are supposed to "look cool and understated," right? Keith? That man was a born superman on the keys, so his relaxed look I mentioned above was probably only when he wasn't "pushing it" to be the flamboyant front man he strove to be! The last time I saw them in person at an amphitheater in Kansas City, I had close enough seats to Keith that I could see the pain he was enduring with his right arm and hand as he played. I felt dearly for him.

BRAVO guys! I just retired as an Audio Mastering Engineer, which was but ONE of my many successful careers in my lifetime. Classically trained pianist (which allowed me to nail Emerson's riffs), MIT double masters later on, think-tank job to 'I-need-a-break-on-the-road-with-nine-keyboards-touring-rock-band' for three years, to high-tech consulting for $$$$$$, to adding on a solo MIDI performance act of 90's songs from Collective Soul to Dream Theater & Ministry with an 18,000 watt front end, MIDI controlled light show, MIDI controlled digital backing vocals (highly unique), to a 16 person start-up we grew to 300 people, to getting published and registering a patent, and 'technically' retiring at 48. Then, just running FOH live sound, recording artists, and advancing into mastering. HOWEVER...you have aggressively tracked, mixed, and mastered..plus added the digital video component is as professionally done as it gets. The MIX on this audio is OUTSTANDING, Antoine; and the digital editing is obviously pristine. I've done some amazing things in my lifetime, and am a HIGHLY accomplished keyboardist, but IMHO, (and it PAINS me to say this), you are better than I am since you also are killer on guitar, bass, AND mainly on drums. I DO NOT play drums ANYWHERE EVEN CLOSELY TO WHERE YOU RESIDE ON THEM, DUDE. You are definitely in a league of your own. Oh, the over-driven sound you guys got from Francis Gregoire's Hammond L-112A was spectacular, man! He's a pretty good keyboardist, and will get much better with time...we all do. Keep the awesome stuff coming dude; I'm a fan, and I don't pledge my allegiance easily. Two BIG THUMBS UP on THIS one!
