Hello. I am old and have Zero Idea how to do instagram. 1 person that you have Never played was My 1st guitar hero of the mid 1970s. His name was TOMMY BOLIN. He, sadly, passed away in December of 1976 of a drug overdose. I was 17 and his death Crushed My World for quite a While. I would LOVE to see/watch your reaction to "Dreamer" Studio version off of the Album "Teaser". Also, MY Favorite Tommy Bolin song is "Wild Dogs" also off of his 1st solo album, "Teaser". Also, a Great jamm song off of his 2nd solo Album, ''Private Eyes'', is the track titled "Post Toastee". Everyone gets to Show Off a Bit On "Post Toastee". IF you love songs with Great Dynamics from slow, sparse, beautiful and melodic to- Boom, rocking out in a flash, and then BOOM- right back to soft and mellow, then "Dreamer" is for you. I would recommend the regular studio audio of all 3. Thank you. I Love watching your shows!
This was Elton's big come-back song for the 1980s. Some people were calling him a has-been in the new decade, and Elton had something to say about that. ;-) Let the music play! Peace to all!

@@Nightcrawlerfive Because they’re not together , he’s on the road and missing him . Don’t wish it away , Don’t look at it like it’s forever , Time on my hands could be time spent with you .
Elton was running out of gas by the late 70's. After about 5 years he landed back on top with I'm Still Standing in 1983. The song is telling the world that he can rise up and return to the top of the charts.
Actually he had several high charting hits between 1979-1983. I read that Elton wrote this over the breakup of a lover who left him for a closeted gay male movie star. He then went on to marry a woman ..and well....
Elton John can hit the top of the charts any goddamn time he wants to, he's just classy and stepped aside to let some other people have the spotlight for a while.
@@TheHighSorcerer He hasn't had one single hit since the Candle In The Wind way back in 1998. So I guess in your estimation he hadn't wanted another hit in 22 years! I guess his husbands art collection makes no room for another gold record!
@Vincent Schmitt Little Jeanne went to #6 in 1980. Mama Can't Buu You Love #18 in 1979 and Blue Eyes #12 in 1981 along with Empty Garden so I'm Still Standing was not a comeback record. It was sort of promoted that way and so was Sad Songs Say So Much in 1984. Great newsworthy publicity though. This sort of started when his early 1981 album The Fox completely flopped with no hit singles on it although many say it's thier favorite Elton album of that decade.
Yes, definitely. I had a really bad home life and this song always helps me feel joy at how far I've come and how I've cut out the toxic people of my childhood.
*Fun fact:* Simon LeBon from Duran Duran tossed Elton his cane from off-camera in that one shot seen here at 2:55. Duran Duran were in town when Elton was, and they all partied together. John Taylor says Elton drank them under the table! They thought he wouldn't be able to keep up because he was so much older than they were, but he showed them, I guess!
When we saw Elton in concert, he explained how this song impacted his life so much and his performance of this song was everything and more !! His energy hasn’t changed over the years at all !!!
You have a such a great, resonant voice - so easy to listen to. The fact that you're also hilarious and insightful in measure just makes these videos that much better. Never stop!
One of my favorite Elton John songs is "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues". It has a GREAT harmonica solo on it done by no other than Stevie Wonder. Great song. Definitely check it out.
Yes; those three songs (including this one); Elton was gone for years recovering from what I assumed was a serious addiction problem; suddenly, he comes back with these tunes and it was as a fan from his 70s tunes, actually pretty awesome to hear him again.
Empty Garden ewas an excellent song from 1982, and Nikita (1985) and don't forget I Don't Wanna Go On with You Like That (1988), a big hit in USA. But he also hit low points in the 80s, after his incredible golden era of the early to mid 70s
One of my faves by him - but then, he’s got so many great ones. His song “Empty Garden,” mourning the loss of his dear friend John Lennon, can still hit me hard.
Elton John! So many great songs to choose from him!! This song is definitely my teenage years! Great memories! Thank you for reacting to him! You're a fantastic reactor and human being 👍🙌
"Burn Down the Mission". It might not get as many requests as some of his other songs, but I think it's underrated. Promise you won't be disappointed. Love and respect to you, Sir.
Bless him, he IS still standing. when he wrote this song it was a bad time including his fanbase and labels. this was him saying look at ME! Now - been with his husband for about 20 years, adopted two sons. he has really turned stuff around and knows what is vip. so empowering.
Two of the best love songs Elton does to me is "I guess that's why they call it the blues" and "The way you look tonight". Love you brother thanks for the reactions they are awesome just like you my friend.
@@RickTBL But in 1975 there was also the greatest album of all time, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. It went downhill after that and sharply after Blue Moves (a bit of a mixed bag, with a couple of needlessly extended tracks- would have been better with some tracks from Rock of the Westies replacing a few on BM, instead of separate double and single albums), but yes songs like Philadelphia Freedom, Island Girl (both #1 in USA) and even Crocodile Rock (1972, his first #1) were a departure from his early albums. I didn't hate PF, but it's well below his best. And another #1, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, is a song non Elton fans tend to like more. At school i had friend into disco and it was easily his favourite by Elton. Not in my Elton top 100 (nor Crocodile Rock, which Elton and Bernie aren't keen on either, or Island Girl.) There are many hidden gems in Elton's catalogue far superior to some of his most famous songs.
My oldest grandson a couple years ago was 4 years old and he came over and was singing this. Shocked the hell out of me until my daughter told me it was in the movie Sing lol
Saw Elton in concert. It was an unplugged type thing with basically just him on piano. Singing along to Bennie and the Jets with him. Etched in my brain! ❤️
Sir Elton. The most colorful artist of the 20th century. Leaping into the 21st century with his songs proving his music will withstand the changes of time. Truly timeless from here on out.
I'm 27, I've seen him perform this song two separate times in Vegas, and I cried both times, he kills this song live, listening to him smash that piano blows you away. He dedicates this song to Tina Turner live and its amazing
If you mean "obviously he's talking about a relationship", he's talking about his career, you'd be correct. He was on the down side of his career and this album was sort of a comeback. Radio had moved past his 70s style and he had to update it to be relevant again. This worked.
@@Blarglesnarfe Yeah, he says some thing about “our Love“. Seems more likely it was a romantic relationship considering that. Wouldn’t have to be but I’m glad u shared this because of that.
For Elton's real greatness you need to do "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Candle In The Wind" (for Marilyn Monroe, later modified for Princess Diana), ANY song from the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" double album.💙🌿
There's so many Elton songs I could recommend. Sacrifice which is my all time favorite or Healing Hands or Club at the end of the street and many more.😁😁
I had cancer from 2013-2016, (diagnosed stage 3b Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) …to this day, I sing my heart out when I hear this. Im beyond grateful to be remission. I also gave birth to two beautiful children after I was told I would never have children after treatment. IM STILL STANDING!!!
This song always reminds me of that brave young man Ryan White who passed from AIDS back in the 80s. I remember Elton befriended him and the song was featured on the soundtrack to the movie about Ryan White's life. Everyone from Ronald Reagan to Michael Jackson, John Mellencamp, Howie Long and others became friends and pushed to help Ryan and his family out. It was a powerful song when Ryan was still alive.
One of moms absolute favourite songs,as she knew.....she knew what he was going through. And she absolutely loved the lyrics and the beat, everything. And she kind of brought Elton John into my life too as just a tiny kid,so i have allways been listening to him,if i wanted to or not. As i grew up and even as an adult,i have been roasted and bashed for listening to him. But you know, people that does that shit, are the ones that at a later point comes out of the closet themselfs,or they have bigger obstacles and troubles to face in theyr lifes. As long as they dont directly hurt you, provoce you or whatever, just let them be whoever they really are. Because i know this much......a unhappy life,is a life not worth living. And we dont need anymore suicides out there. We lost far too much incredible talent that way! We are in this together,so we should back eachother up when times gets rough!
From March to May of this year, I was stuck alone in a small dorm room for quarantine in NYC during the worst part of the Covid pandemic there. I lived next to a hospital so I would hear ambulances day and night, and everyday at 7 pm I would hear the people cheer for the emergency workers. It was a tough time for me since I was alone and far from home, but this song helped me greatly to get through it and stay strong through my darker moments and for that I'll always love it.
Many people had written Elton's musical obituary in the late 70s and early 80s and this was his response to the critics! And today, he's STILL standing!
In 1983, i was on vacation in the South of France, and spent a day in Nice, and on the Promenade des Anglaise, they were filming this video! We were probably in one of the crowd scenes about 3 minutes in. This song will always remind me about that vacation!
Me growing up and living in the Netherlands, when i was little, swimming all summer long at a public pool with lots of other people, grown ups brought along a radio and i remember playing this song on the radio all summer long and became one of my favorite songs ever!!
I was a big Elton John fan in the 70s. In the latter part of the decade, he had a lot of personal issues and kind of disappeared for about 5 years. "I'm Still Standing" was his comeback song!! 💜💜
This song was my go to song during my divorce...I love this song!!! Thank you Elton for the song and the meaning it gave me to keep going during the hardest time in my life!!
This has become one of my go to songs for inspiration. I have had MS for 5 years, had 2 brain surgeries 2 years ago and a hip replacement last year. Lot of stuff to deal with by I'm still standing!
This song was a big comeback song for Elton John in the 80s. This wa some of his first big hits since he got out of his abusive relationship and got clean from all the drugs he was doing in the 70s
My brother introduced me to Elton a few months before he died so I’ve liked Elton since I was 8. good songs by him I enjoy are Last song and The way you look tonight. Keep spreading the love for music and each other Jamel.
‘Suns out guns out!’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Only Americans and possibly South Africans can make that sound fun. You have such an insight/intuitiveness with your comments and also see the fun and lighter moments. It’s wonderful to see that positive ness. Thanks - it makes me smile. Yes! This is the perfect song to do the ‘Carlton’ dance to 👍👍👍🥰
I love Elton John's music, his melodies are second to none and I love the way he builds a strong musical structure that supports and showcases Bernie's lyrics. But we are not getting an insight into Elton's life, we are getting a glimpse into the heart and mind of Bernie Taupin who wrote all those insightful and powerful lyrics that Elton put to music. Let us not forget to give Bernie Taupin some love.
Really digging you discovering the music of my youth, it's like hearing it for the first time all over again. While you're getting into Elton John, you have to hear "Honky Cat" from the "Honky Chateau" album. Please. Keep keeping great music alive, J!
You sound more and more like Me Rogers. I think we need to be your neighbor. Keep it up. You found a wonderful way to talk to the masses and still make it sound like you're talking to each of us separately. That's a gift.
A little trivia: the director of this video is Russell Mulcahy, who made a name for himself in the 80s for his extravagant music videos for Duran Duran (Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf) and was also the director of the first two Highlander movies.
This song means a lot to me. Several years ago I ended up in the hospital because I had an a-fib attack (my heart went a bit crazy). This is as close to a heart attack I want to be to. This song reminds me that I have a lot to achieve.
This was a great comeback song for Elton! David Cassidy sang it in concert in 85 when he had a huge hit in Europe. He was close friends w Elton. Sadly, "DC 's lp was never released in the USA. Anyway, great song!!
