The Last Song is the second single released from the 1992 album, The One. The song tells of an estranged father coming to terms with the sexuality of his gay son, who is dying of an AIDS-related illness and was the first of Elton's American singles to benefit his AIDs foundation. It was composed by Elton with lyrics provided by Bernie Taupin who faxed the lyrics to him in Paris, shortly after Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury had died. 'I was crying all the time as I wrote the music', John told The Advocate, 'and it was very hard for me to sing it.' The Last Song is taken from Elton: Jewel Box, out now: EltonJohn.lnk.to/JewelBoxHero

I love this song! I remember when I first heard *"The Last Song"* by Sir Elton John. While I didn't know anyone personally who had AIDS, or who died from AIDS, I still cry whenever I listen. This song is just as relevant today as it was almost 30 yrs ago. When it was released, it was during the AIDS epidemic. Today, it could be about someone dying from Covid-19 and/or its variants.

This is one of the times that he and I ever connected, even if I could not share the feeling directly, I shared it with him in a deeper way....about my Pop, his Pop, his Dad and my Dad

I learned this song on the piano. My Brother died of aids in 1993. He was only 33. I played it on piano for him and my Grandma at funeral. Different song for my Grandma. It took me a while to learn this song. RIP my dear Brother.

I'm so in to these lyrics. My ex-husband never stood up to the plate. Narcissistic personality disorder is so damaging to families . My heart still aches.

Though the song is beautiful, it is the hardest song for me to hear. I lost three of my best friends, one of whom was my first lover because the right and righteous could not see a way to work towards a cure. They would rather withhold a solution because we were great sinners. However, Jesus never discriminated between the sinners and the saints. Jesus said, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
