To answer Apollo's question: yes there was a civil war between the elves, it is known as the kinslaying and there were 3 of them.

The last one is even more tragic, maybe, when the remnants of Gondolin and exiles of Doriath, including the son of Beren and Luthien and his children, are destroyed by the remaining sons of Feanor. Sad times.

There was a point where the dwarves had a crossbow unit on a wall that was cracked and think if the attackers had 1 or 2 more shots in their artillery they could have taken out the whole unit

Elves vs Elves has happened at least twice in middle earth history. The first one was The Kinslaying at Alqualonde, Feanor Needed boats, so he asked the Teleri, they refused, so he and his armies killed them all and took the boats. The second one was during the fall of Gondolin, Maeglin's men attacked Tuor's men during the siege of the city.

There are three kinslayings. First was at aqualonde, the second happened after the death of Thingol when the sons of Feonor descended upon Doriath in an attempt to reclaim the simaril that Been recovered, and the third happened at the mouths of the Sirion for the same reason by the same people.
