Great to see Elvin Bishop still out there playing and sounding great. I met him many years ago, I was just starting out and looking for a gig, he was very kind to me and very helpful. He's a wonderful guitar player and a wonderful human being. Thanks for posting this!
Been around the perimeter of Elvin's life for many years with mutual friends and I'll tell you the man has payed his dues to play them blues. Deeply respect this man.
Still got that old Gibson after all these years and not changed , and he’s still into it as the original , fantastic and plays just as good but I can’t get over that Gibson well done
I always wanted a Gibson 335. I just...couldn't afford one. I managed to get an American Tele and then a Strat but, they are a lot cheaper then a 335! Ahhhh, maybe one day.. Elvin played a Gibson ES-345 and named it "Red Dog" he still plays that guitar today!!! www.guitarworld.com/features/interview-elvin-bishop-and-his-red-dog-gibson-es-345-together-almost-50
I think the rumor is that Elvin had a tele, and another player had the 335 they traded for a night and Elvin never gave it back.....Don't know if it's true, but makes for a great story.
Man, that old axe has got some miles on her, but she still delivers just like the old man. You’ll also see him sportin’ an Epi Casino with a Vibrola trem. All us old guitar slangers still think we can hang, at least until we play the video back. Elvin’s got the pedigree, and the legit chops to pull it off. He’s been doin it from the beginning of electric blues and blues rock, and I’ve been diggin’ his licks from the git-go! Rock on, Elvin!
I got married in1975, 18, fooled around and fell in love and got divorced in 1976. 19. Lol lol!!! It wasn’t funny then, but this song got me through a hard time cuz it was my truth! I’m 64 now and married 37 years. I stopped fooling around!! I love you Elvin bishop!! Saw you many times in Fresno California!! Love of my life back then! God bless you!! 💕💕💕💕💕
I seen Elvin Bishop in '76 at The Ivanhoe in Chicago. That song was all over the radio then, AM and FM. His rig was the Gibson ES335 and a Silverface Fender Champ amp! That was it! The amp was miked into the PA system. Mickey and Elvin sounded just like the recording. Glad he's still got it, good to see it! Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown still tours and sounds great, too.
This is a song that went under the radar for me back in the day. Only recently it surfaced and I've realised how good the song is. Try and see the group in the day with Mickey Thomas. Fantastic voice. Rod Stewart does a good version of it and his guitarists is out of this world.
@@patrickfridley4172 I was stationed right below Kadena, at Camp Foster. We use to eat chow at Kadena a few times a week. Air Force chow was a lot better than Marine Corps chow. I was on Okinawa Aug74-Sep75. Semper Fi greetings from Charleston, WEST Virginia.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 was stationed at Kadena but worked at Torii Station. Got there in Sept 75, left Jan 77. Yes, chow was better in the Air Force! Greetings from Sarasota, Florida!
@@usmc-veteran73-77 I was AF Security Service. Left oki and spent rest of two tours at NSA. Army guys and gals were cool. Took the bus from Kadena to Torii until saved up enough to bring my wife of one year over. We lived on the economy down the hill from Torii. Quite an experience for two young twenty somethings! Orion beer and dried squid, yummy! LOL
Probably one of my fav top five songs. I never ever bought the song or recording, just aways waited patiently for the next time it played on the radio. All I knew was the voice of Mickey Thomas. Later on I learned the source of the guitar lick that I loved almost as much as the vocal in the song. I saw Mickey sing the song at a small venue in 95......he killed it.
Gran paw Elvin can sure still play !!! Wonder what he sounded like when he was young ? Man ! He ain’t missed a lick !!! We all got old, but can sure STILL kick butt !!!
Yes. I also saw him at Fillmore and winterland,, seemed like he was always around with The New Riders of the Purple Sage...commander cody ,, I also saw Bloomfield play Winterland. He played when the stage was on the side of the rink. Way before this song. That a long time ago. Good to read your post
I and my band opened up for Elvin and Lydia Pense/Coldblood back in 199x. They gave us the broom closet as a dressing room. We saw the promotor taking deli trays back to Elvin's dressing room and asked if we got anything. They came back with a case of warm drinking water. We didn't care, we were having the time of our lives. I miss those days...
Elvin You sound great. Period. ! I’m 55, I remember when they played the hell out of this on the radio here in Chicago. 89 WLS, WMET, WDHF. the Loop. You look great; sound great. Doing what you love.
I've just been bingeing on Elvin's back catalog lately. Raisin' Hell was the album that made a fan out of me back in the late 70's. Got to see that band play in their heyday and they just blew the doors off. Elvin knew how to throw down in concert like few others could. So nice to seem him still jamming but it's bittersweet. God Bless Mr. Bishop.
Elvin looks so comfortable with OI' Red Dog, like slidin' into an old pair of slippers. That show must have been magic, super small venue and laid back as all get out.
Wily Jordon one of best friends in the world. He nails this song with his magical voice. He's got a range like Aretha and loves doing this song that was top forty when he was a young teenager.
