Elvis interview; June 9, 1972 - New York City, New York

Possibly the most famous interview/press conference Elvis ever gave - the one he did on June 9th '72, only hours before he opened his three-day, four-show stay at the world famous Madison Square Garden.
Elvis met with the NY media at the local Hilton, and from there went back to rehearsals before finally facing the tough NY crowd the same day...
The clip is compiled from multiple different sources but is essentially complete - it may be missing (audio-wise) seconds here and there but nothing drastic. Footage is missing more than that and we deiced the best way to "cover" those parts is simply with a photo over the audio.

Man. This man was so genuine, modest, and noble. This is one of my favorite interviews he had ever given.

Elvis never changed.Never forgot his roots. He had super manners and treated everyone with respect.Everyone and I man everyone said the same thing about him..he is the nicest kindest sweetest most generous man they ever met and that when he entered the room you knew it before you saw him because you would get chills and static electricity. They all said he was the most charistmatic most gorgeous sexiest man they ever met.Elvis said the image was one thing .the man another. He wanted to be loved for the man he was a man seeking to please God and make people happy through his music.Irreplaceable Elvis.

seeing Elvis is like seeing a walking talking living breathing institution. He represents so many things to so many people, he has been the cause of so many cultural changes and upheavals and has given joy and fun to the world like no other. yet he was a human being living his own life with his own struggles and worries and needs and joys. to see all of this represented in a human is pretty overwhelming to see. You literally feel that there is a strong force of nature you're watching even on video. let alone how it must have felt to be in his presence.

It’s so amazing to listen to him talk and see his thought process and his humor and yet be so down to earth and modest, as huge as he was. You don’t see that today, they walk around with attitudes and divas

What an awesome video of the king. He had so many great ways, and things about him that even men today could only dream about. He would top the charts even today if he were still alive. All music today is 2nd to Elvis's music. Long live the King and his music. Just super cool looking at age 37 and yet his humble way shows at this pc.

+Dennis Hardy He surely had talent and charisma, but honestly that statement needs to have a qualifier. If he had halted his self destructive patterns and changed his life style EP would have went on to make great music. Not only is he an amazing entertainer he is an example of the destruction that can be caused by fame and fortune if you do not have a solid support system and strong character.

With all due respect though, none of us really know what was happening down deep inside this guy. He lost so much in his past yrs I think it's like Cilla said once. He just gave up after his divorce, that role in that movie w/ Streisand, etc. He lost everything. Still he should've thought more of his little girl. Oh well we could go on speculating forever. He took things to heart too much.

Exactly, my comment was not meant to be a put down. Sad that such a charasmatic person who enjoyed entertaining was gone much too soon.

Sorry but the role with Barbara Streisand was not a loss. Elvis is second to NOBODY, not even Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra or The Beatles. He's the King. In my opinion it would have been a giant loss for him to accept that role that sees him as a washed up musician catering to Barbara Streisand. His loss came from the divorce, addiction to drugs and public ridicule.

The media just wanted to get a reaction from him. It was well-known that he was Single and Free from his marriage. This Interview was close to the time, if not at the time, of his beginning relationship with Linda Thompson. 9-12-22

I feel kinda sorry for Elvis, aside from the usual snippets of this interview you normally see, the full length interview shows a less confident, more regular person with his father, catapulted to stardom with a disconnect between some superstar everybody had superhuman, unrealistic expectations of and a person who as much as he was thankful couldn't comprehend, rationalize or feel completely comfortable with it

It was a very good question someone asked him if he would consider doing a biography and he said he would consider it but it's too early now that would have been like wow best seller he could have told about everybody all the people that turned on him if he would have just released all that frustration and had somebody like a Ghostwriter write down how he felt about the people who betrayed him it would have released all that negativity and he wouldn't have felt that he had a Medicaid himself to relax
