Elvis spent his life looking after everybody but forgot to look after himself. He had his flaws, but his kindness, generosity and humbleness were unmatched. A great reaction

The movie was pretty good but please fact check things before assuming. The ‘68 special was never a Christmas show but Parker did NOT want him to do the song.✌️
@mikem957
@mikem957 Год назад
@@hookedonreactions7649 The original plan for the NBC special was indeed to be a family Christmas special. Parker had arranged for Elvis to sit and sing Christmas songs to children. Binder told Parker he didn't sign up for that and they clashed. Fortunately Elvis told Binder "fuck the Colonel. We're doing it your way". The rest is history.

It was a hell of an emotional roller-coaster this movie. I watched it 5x in theatre. 1st time I was shell-shocked, it was hectic and I honestly didn't know what I'd just seen, 2nd time I got a whole lot more detail out of it, 3rd time I just bawled my eyes out. I think his daddy was just out of his league in the business world, and he leant on the colonel too much.

This is too funny. All you heard about was all the research that he did, yet the movie was so full of outright lies and inaccuracies that it is pathetic. That's the bad part about movies made about famous people, if you were alive when the person lived and are familiar with their life inevitably you will disappointed when movies are made and events are twisted, misconstrued, misrepresented and outright lied about to add drama to a Hollywood production.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LrFCyNMvZWk.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

Fantastic reaction ❤ I’m 44 and have always, since a toddler, been an Elvis fan. Read books, watched documentaries, listened to his music, heard his life story…. This film was unreal. So many tears watching it. I was sceptical because us die hard fans don’t like Elvis impersonators because there was only 1 Elvis. Austin Butler nailed this role, absolutely nailed it 🎉 Elvis was literally worked into an early grave. The colonel and all the ‘hangers on’ who were bleeding him dry. He was so generous and people took advantage. RIP Elvis… you will never ever be forgotten ❤

Even though there was dramatic license given to the “I Have a Dream” song but so much is true. Information taken directly from the people who knew Elvis. “ Elvis, That’s the Way It Is”, “Elvis and the Black Community” and Sam Bell his childhood friend verified this as well as many others. Broke my heart. He died of congestive heart failure. So sad he could not travel the world as he wanted. Such a great movie.

@PhirePhlame
@PhirePhlame Год назад
What's worse is, the scene where he fires Tom is another dramatic license. In reality, Elvis always believed Tom's cover story, and died never knowing the truth. In fact nobody really found out until 1981. His last show at the Hilton _did_ have an onstage blow-up, but it was nothing to do with Parker. Basically, Elvis visited the home of an employee of the Hilton after finding out the guy's wife was dying of cancer. The Hilton had a rule that forbade contact between hotel staff and talent, however, so the employee was fired immediately. That night, Elvis launched into an onstage rant against Mr. Hilton, saying he wasn't worth a damn. This led to the firing of Parker, but in the privacy of Elvis's room, after literally arguing all night.

Elvis's mom had severe depression that got worse when Elvis got drafted. Then her death made his depression spiral out of control as well. He took anti-depressants (the same kind that Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Jackson took in that era, and who also died young partly due to them) but the anti-depressants of the day were dangerous and highly addictive.

Elvis was the best singer ever. Not only did he have an amazing voice, he could also convey the feeling of a song so you felt it too. And don't get me started on how many different genrers he could do perfectly. You might find a singer who could sing a lovesong like Elvis, and another who could sing a rock song like him, and another again who could sing Gospel, blues or country like him. But you wont find anyone who could do it all across. Elvis is in 5 ! Music halls of fames, has the most sold christmas albums, was named the 14th best country singer of the 20th century, got 3 Grammys for his Gospel music, is the king of rock'n roll, and topped the blues charts several times. He even sang semi opera (It's now or never, Surrender) and Pavarotti once said "Elvis can sing like me but I cant sing like Elvis". And when the famous opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa was asked who she thought had the worlds best voice she shocked the journalist (who thought she would name another opera singer) by saying "Elvis in the early 60's".

I hope you’ve seen the movie since this. He was so young when he started and had beer so poor, he gotten taken advantage of. You’ll understand much more after you’ve seen the movie. Sometimes he was too kind and tried to help everyone else. This has happened time and time again since Elvis. He was the first, and his iconic fame he had to deal with alone with all the financial responsibilities of taking care of everyone was rough. He also had a myriad of health problems genetically passed down that he used the prescription drugs to be able to perform. I saw an interview with Whitney Houston once & she stated “ the success is great, it’s the fame that kills you” & look what happened to that beautiful talented woman. Her mom sang for Elvis and went through his death etc. Then decades later she went through it with her own daughter too. So sad. Michael Jackson, Prince, Freddy Mercury ( who by the way loved Elvis and wrote his hit “Crazy Little Love” in his memory. Stars that seem to reach high levels of fame get lost in it all & Elvis is one of the most famous people in the world. Known by just his first name around the globe and then the Colonel on top of it just led him the wrong way. Very sad. I sobbed through the ending. It was done respectfully, emotionally, and with grace. There’s a line in the movie where he said to Priscilla when he said “ no one is going to remember me, I haven’t done anything lasting” That’s the one line I would let out a hiccup sob even though I knew it was coming every time. Great movie, phenomenal acting. Don’t know if you recognized the Colonel, but it was Tom Hanks. Very much a roller coaster of highs and lows. Steve Binder did the 68 special and tried to reach Elvis to work with him afterwards, but once again the Colonel wouldn’t allow him to contact Elvis. May Elvis an now his daughter RIP without earthly burdens anymore. Loved your reaction & I do hope you see the movie. It was best in the theater but streaming and the DVD are great too. That soundtrack went to number 1 after the movie came out. ❤❤😊🎸🎸🕺🏻🕺🏻🎤🎤🙏🏼

Vernon was a weak man who gave into Tom Parker. Parker knew he was weak and not particularly bright or worldly wise. Elvis was never arrogant, he thought that without Parker he'd not have made it. Which is criminal for a manager to make an artist feel so beholden like that. Elvis was a good man that deserved so much more. He should have lived longer and been happier and toured the world. Amazing that he's still the bigdest selling solo artist of all time. Austin Butler and Tom Hanks deserve Oscars for their performances.

Austin Butler earned my respect for all the hard work he did learning Elvis' mannerisms, movements and voice. He killed this role. Probably the only competition he has is Kurt Russell who also portrayed Elvis in a movie decades ago. Some of Elvis' early recordings weren't able to br adapted to film so Austin had to actually sing them himself and sound like Elvis convincingly. Elvis fod fire the Colonel at one time but he didn't do it publicly the movie depicted.

After her, he surrounded himself with yes-people who never challenged him or got the most they could personnally out of him. Deeply sad loss for the world and his wife and daughter. He never stopped loving Priscilla and she loved him even though she had to leave him.

Steve Binder and Bones Howe produced the Singer Special that came to be known as the Comeback Special. Unfortunately, Elvis was never able to break away from Parker. It ultimately destroyed him. Steve Binder wrote a book about making the special. It’s really good.

He was so scared for the comeback they almost had to drag him onstage. At Elvis' funeral the Colonel had his dad in the kitchen trying to get him to sign a contract that he eventually signed which signed away most things.

The ELVIS movie did GREAT at the box office! 2nd best selling biopic EVER done. Reasons why black people have actually said they liked the movie: 1. "Glad to see Elvis loved everyone and just wanted to bring people together. He wasnt racist at all." - a Black movie reactor, reacting to this movie. 2. Alton Mason as Little Richard was phenomenal. Alton WAS LITTLE RICHARD!! 3. Kelvin Harrison Jr as BB King. What an amazing transformation by Kelvin. Scenes with BB & Elvis were AUTHENTIC & TRUE to the times and POWERFUL today to see on screen. And just plain FUN to watch and see the stage sets how they made 1950s' BEALE STREET come to LIFE on camera. Oscar worthy stuff there. 4. YOLA as SISTER ROSETTA THARPE! HELLO! She knocked it OUT of the park. 5. GARY CLARK JR as Arthur "BIG BOY" CRUDDUP! -- Maaan, to see HIS NAME up in lights. Singing THATS ALL RIGHT MAMMA!! Wheeeeewww Thats was HOT LAVA in my ears. SO DANG GOOD. 6. Shonka Dukureh - Shonkas Shonka Shonka. as "Big Mamma" Thorton. A real life Pentecostal singer and Mom. Her last work in Elvis will be her GREATEST. She did her FAMILY PROUD. She did her daughter PROUD. She came from the Church just like Elvis did. She ONLY did music she believed in. THOSE are just SOME of the reasons people should support this movie. And BECAUSE so many people DID support the movie - record sales for Elvis, Big Mamma, Big Boy Cruddup, BB King & Sister Rosetta all skyrocketed. Their LEGACIES move forward for THE YOUNGEST GENERATIONs today. And thats just DOPE.

I finally saw the film last night ...I was in high school when Elvis died ....this movie was really good ..he was a star long enough to go thru many trends,and he also had many famous girlfriends that they didn't show ..hippy and rock music came thru and replaced him after a while ...but he always had international fans ....his career was just like Michael Jackson /with the drugs at the end ......Michael Jackson even married Elvis daughter for a time

Elvis' parents Vernon Elvis Presley and Gladys Love Smith got married when Vernon was 17 and Gladys 21. They fibbed on their wedding license, though that Vernon was older than Gladys. They'd eloped to get married in the County of Pontotoc and signed that Vernon was 22 and Gladys was 19. That was on June 17, 1933. Vernon was born April 10, 1916 and Gladys was born April 25, 1912. Elvis was born January 8, 1935, making Vernon still 18, 3 months away from his 19th birthday. Gladys was 22, 3 months shy of 23. Elvis' twin Jesse Garon was stillborn. Gladys passed away aged 46 on August 14, 1958. She fell ill with hepatitis, due to her drinking habit and had to be admitted to Memphis Methodist Hospital August 10, 1958, while Elvis was at basic training in Texas. On August 13, Elvis flew into Memphis and went straight to the bedside of his ailing mother, after having been granted an emergency 7-day leave from his army station at Fort Hood. He was just in time, because Gladys Presley died the next day aged 46. Elvis returned to Fort Hood on August 24. After training at Fort Hood, Elvis was assigned to the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 32nd Armor, 3rd Armored Division in Friedberg, West Germany. He left Fort Hood on September 19, headed for Brooklyn Army Terminal in New York where he and his division would ship out to West Germany on September 22. He spent the next 17 months from arrival on October 1, 1958 in Germany until March 2, 1960 when he left by plane and arrived back in the USA on March 3, 1960. Vernon passed away 2 years after Elvis' death, on June 16, 1979 aged 63.

2:24 That's how the leg shaking started, he was so nervous. But since he'd sung in a gospel choir when his family moved to the government housing project in Memphis (even that was a step up from where they'd been living in Tulepo) he was able to move his shaking legs in rhythm with what he was singing and.....the rest is history.

Elvis hated the movies they had him do. He thought they were stupid. He felt they made him into a joke. He longed to be taken seriously as an actor. It's like an artist being forced to color in coloring books with crayons when the artist has visions of beauty he's not allowed to create. A tragedy.

Elvis' father had more backbone, yes, but the contract they signed was a trap they couldn't escape. It's sad to think Elvis died so young and but he was already in very pretty much pain for years and years. His hair were completely white from the stress, he had glaucoma and it was said he would have probably die young even if he wasn't worked like a circus freak like he was but the thought that he was in so much pain for years and drugged up to kept him going is tragic. Priscilla still loved him and was a dear friend till the end and he was a goddam good father to Lisa Marie. Austin Butler did an amazing job for this movie.

Parker’s gift was manipulation. He found all of Elvis’s weak spots and exploited them to the fullest. This is the saddest story ever.

Amazing movie! It also showed the corrupt side of the music industry. Elvis should’ve definitely had his own label. It’s like B.B. King said: “If you don’t do the business, the business will do you.” He’s so damn right.

This was the best movie of 2022 and should have won Oscar. Austin butler should have won best actor & Tom hanks should have won best supporting actor. I can’t express how my heart hurts for Elvis Presley
