MAY 29 2020 Elvis Aaron Presley Still listening to your Beautiful Music. You are still THE KING !!!! You are Loved around the WORLD. You are The BEST ENTERTAINER THAT HAS EVER GRACED THE STAGE !!! Elvis You will Never be FORGOTTEN !!!!
Great stuff as always. I went to see the Elvis movie "That's The Way It Is" in 1971 and there's a part where he's goofing around with his "guys" during rehearsal. I swear Elvis literally drops his J200 to the ground amid huge laughter from the band.
@@freddysnip6257 “The thing I really noticed that night, though, was his guitar playing,” recalled Johnny Cash. “Elvis was a fabulous rhythm player. He’d start into ‘That’s All Right, Mama’ with his own guitar alone, and you didn’t want to hear anything else. I didn’t anyway."
Elvis was quite hard on his gear, it seems. Scotty got involved in all sorts of business for Elvis, too - some of it while he was the band's manager, but some after the noxious "Colonel" got involved. As always, a meticulously researched and very well presented video. Thanks, Ramon.
Wow, what a great story about all like great guitars Elvis used call why would I’d like to have one of those guitars that he played with? Thanks for the beautiful story about Elvis and his guitars it’s a big part of history
Well documented story: considerable data compiled ! I like the "What if he had gotten the rifle" at 2:30 :)) We would probably have had another Capone instead of Elvis ?? These leather covers are awkward... possibly muffled the guitar's resonance... Nice story about throwing the Ebony J-200 and given to Heather and all the subsequent ones; funny to see how Elvis gave guitars away like rock groups throw picks at the audience nowadays. Looks like the circle was closed with the D-28: back to the roots ! What a guy he was... Nice memories ! Thanks for uploading Ramon :)
Excellent work, thanks. Love the story of the tossed ebony J-200! What a photo! Elvis wasn't much of a guitarist but always had a cool instrument in his hands. Love the story of when the Beatles met him he was noodling at home a Fender Precision bass
What a jerk the Colonel was for not letting Elvis be endorsed with Gibson and making Scotty Moore use his name for Elvis. I bet the Colonel's only reason for saying no to the Gibson endorsement was Elvis only got a free guitar for himself and no money for the endorsement. So the Colonel wasn't getting anything out of the deal.
i saw him twice....'74, my first concert, and '77 one of his last....and i wasnt even a fan because of the movies.... after the first show i became a fan because the band, and mainly Ronnie Tutt, the drummer, was unbelievable James Burton too, and Jerry Scheff on bass....and every back up singer, male and female, were fantastic and Elvis, of course, was GREAT....he could sing anything....42 years is awfully young too die But i think he had the time of his life after '68 going out on the road...
@@matthewchambers5401 yes...my mom...i was 14, and my dad didnt want to go at the last minute, so he gave me his ticket... I hated the movies, but not the musician...they were all great, especially Elvis. When he came back in May 77 i bought everybody tickets and we all went...2 months later he was dead.
My favorite, looks-wise is the black dove. I've always wanted to see the BACKS of these guitars to see the wear that the belts and suits he wore had on them. This was a fun Elvis video. Just arming the Elvis army with more and more info!
You did it again! Very informative post. I've been to Graceland in Memphis and you can see some of the guitars explained here throughout the house and in the barn/Elvis Collection Museum. Thank you brother!
My 10 favorite Elvis guitars: 1. 1956 Gibson J 200 N 2. 1964 Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman 3. 1965 Gibson EBS 1250 4. 1963 Gibson Super 400 5. 1955 Martin D 28 6. 1960 Gibson J 200 7. 1942 Martin D 18 8. 1968 Gibson J 200 9. 1969 Gibson Dove 10. 1976 Martin D 35
Wow very thorough especially the succession of acoustics in his early years, though I am not sure but he might have played a Fender acoustic and is also pictured in 1958 ( ?) in an army uniform with a Danlectro for an album cover whose sessions listed only Hank Garland and Elvis as the sole guitarists Scotty Moore was absent .You can definitely hear 2 electric guitars especially on Big Hunk of Love . Keep up the great work always
Great video. My two favorite Elvis guitars are probably the J 200 that was customized and the black Dove. I just wish you had mentioned the custom Gibson guitar Jim Curtin gave to Elvis.
A great video i always thought Elvis made the disc My Happiness was played on his old guitar his mother got him i now assume it was made with a Martin along with his first recordings at sun studios thanks for the information
The first guitar seen, the double- I went to school with a gal, who knew I was an Elvis fan. Elvis was still alive at the time she told me that her dad built that guitar. Elvis heard about it and purchased it. We always hear this stuff, of course. I did a quick Google search, and a website mentions the origin of it isn’t clear, but one being it was made by a man in Indiana. That fits the story she told me.
It's an "EB6", it's kind of a grey area as to whether it's a bass or a baritone. Gibson came out with the EB6 to compete with Danelectro's 6 basses, to which they were sold as a "bass". Fender made the "VI" which is also sold as a "bass". It all comes down to how you tune it. If you tune it an octave down from a regular guitar then you're playing "bass". If you tune it a 4th or 5th lower, B or A standard, then you're playing a "baritone". Most of the recordings you'll hear of this type guitar use it as a bass usually doubling the upright bass part, this is called "tick-tack". But on recordings where it's up front in a lead role, even if it is tuned as a bass, it's filling the role of a "baritone"
Watching this reminds why Elvis was The King. Like JFK's death (kindergarten, '62), I remember when Elvis passed away. KSAN interviewing cats while driving down Hwy 1 and Craig Chaquico gives props. Local radio, what can I say :)
nice video, it was great to visit Graceland and see some of these guitars including the doubleneck, there's also a bunch of amps and PA equipment on display.
I read that the black Humming bird was a gift from his father who had is refined in black might be an addendum if correct.. Wasn't the German guitars call a Black Rose??? did he not also play a Burns 12 string solid body
Thanks Scott the german guitar was high end by all accounts. Thanks for the info and may e the other guitar you mention is part of his movie guitar collection
So many guitar players , Jeff Beck don't know if you already have one on Jeff , Buck Dharma, Pat Travers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billy Gibbons of course Eric Capton
@8:53 the guitar that was sent to Gibson for upgrades, when it came back with the fancier pickguard and name across the fret-board it was not the same guitar, it had a different serial number, and no-one knows where the original J200 is, or what happened to it.
