These are several phone calls to Larry Geller . I never met the man in person yet he always answered my phone calls. Then i stopped bothering him . Years later i needed some information 'so i called him. I heard him say i'm not here to his wife. She told him my name and he said iI will take that one. I know there are those fans that do not believe his stories . Thats cool ' everyone has an own opinion. But he turned out to be a long distance friend. A few things may trouble some people but he is not the only one that said it to me .
Enjoy

The more interviews that I listen to, the more books I read, I know one true thing. The story of Elvis Presley is told by people who manage only to tell you who they are. It seems every fact stated about Elvis is at one point or another disputed. Then, the facts about one interviewee to another are disputed. I believe each create their own version of the truth depending on their need to be seen as Elvis’ savior, protector, advisor and so on. They are compelled to divulge things that immediately reviews their personal needs. Not one of them admits to a short coming or wrong doing on their part. If in the beginning they appreciated what Elvis gave to them, they came to resent him for it. He was like an aphrodisiac to most. They needed him to provide that “hitting the lottery” feeling every day. I cannot fathom the amount of chaos that surrounded him and when illness and addiction changed the dynamics, it empowered some. I remember one of Elvis’ most lengthy interviews (perhaps 62). He discussed the negative view that people had of his entourage and defended them with a vengeance. In fact, I would go so far to say that he never publicly maligned anyone. I think that this is the one true fact that I will take to the bank. I will continue to respect anyone who protects Elvis in their books and interviews as he did them.

Thank you for these, Joe, and yes, there is a lot of personal information in your conversations with Larry Gellar. I really appreciate your sharing these conversations with us. I believe Larry Gellar's accounts and his perspective are his own. He's a very thoughtful man, and it makes sense to me that in the last months of Elvis' life, everyone knew he was severely ill -- even the fans. I'm so glad that he took your phone calls -- it gives me insight into Larry Gellar. I so appreciate him sharing his stories, thoughts, and feelings with you.

@jkrein82 You know I've heard, just like everyone else, Larry repeat that conversation where Elvis's head is placed in a bucket of water and the Colonel storms in and makes that famous statement. I always thought it was Larry embossing things, then of course, I saw it made it's way into the movie albeit in a scene for dramatic effect in a very different scenario. The thing is Larry seems to have no problem repeating these things because he remembers them. I listen to Priscilla and the story slightly changes or she tells stories that imply she was there when she wasn't, she's repeating someone else's story. For instance just recently in the Piers Morgan interview she repeated the story of Elvis buying the car at the dealership for the black lady, when you look up that story it was actually in 1975 and Priscilla wasn't there. Maybe I need to place more importance on some of Larry's stories.

@@kathy-t5q she was telling someone else's story talking about his benevolence. Do you think if you're going to listen to her tell a story, it would at least be a first-hand account she witnessed? Doesn't that make more sense, why tell someone else's version of a story? Did she not know him well enough, didn't witness his benevolence to be able to give a good account? As it was she actually got that story wrong.

Right. Larry is consistent and his stories reflect a sincere admiration and respect for Elvis. Not so for the ex wife. I don't think she appreciated the fans or Elvis' benevolence until she was standing at a podium after he died.

Larry was shocked by the image of Elvis's sufferings, he also stated a fact when Parker lost 1 million dollars at casino in 5 hours and Elvis remains shocked 😢 Larry was there the night Elvis return from "dentist" demolished and nodded hed at questioning look of Larry. I'm convinced Elvis went somewhere else in that night, the hours before he died he asks for medication 3 or 4 times... Of course, no one "refused" to obey 😢 if you wanna stay in his "entourage"!! Ha ha.. Ha!! Elvis was killed... But is so romantic to speak about him in such a manner of soap-opera like the young and restless!! Larry knows where Elvis was ✌️

Unbelievable: Many of his close family that absolutely were true blue have spoken about Larry..and Elvis’s spiritual life…I know for a fact that E loved everything that Larry exposed to him. Ok to hang onto ur roots..but: Elvis knew so much of different experiences above conventional religion. Does not mean that he did not cling to his Bible: but he knew exactly what he knew.

Hey Joe when you refer to Shaun here, are you referring to Sherrill Nielsen? This is an interesting conversation. So you believe Larry was around a great deal with Elvis in 1977. Interesting to hear the anecdote of Red beating up a guy who was wearing handcuffs who Elvis looks after and who later sues him. So seemingly there is greater weight to the lawsuits than I might have given to the sackings. I've listed to Sonny, Dave Hebler and they've intimated this was less of an issue and it was more of an issue of them interfering with the drug supply. Listening to Larry it seems the lawsuits were a big enough issue to warrant doing something about it.

I believe his stories and I’m sure he had all the times with Elvis. When Elvis would get sick in the hospital or be out of touch for a bit. Colonel parker would get Priscilla and they would Burn his books snd colonel would run larry off. Colonel parker didn’t like that Larry cause Larry made Elvis think about how to get his ducks in a row. Colonel parker didn’t want Elvis to realize what he had going on. He knew he’d lose the money he was rolling in. Jo Smith is the only one I have heard of say she realized Elvis was sick. She told Billy. She was concerned Elvis wouldn’t be around long. Billy said he thought she was wrong. Jo seems to be the only one. Billy loves Elvis still now. He and Jo refuse to write anything about their time with Elvis. Billy said he and Elvis had a pact about secrets. Billy said he will take it to the grave with him! I’ve seen people ask Billy and Jo Smith questions on the Elvis fans matter page on yt.Thry say with some questions I won’t or can’t answer.

@jkrein82 I've read The Colonel by Alanna Nash. I've also listened to Alanna discuss how she compiled it in a podcast interview. Loanne Parker, Colonel's second wife, absolutely refuted the contents too of course. Joe you stated in that interview that you thought that book was rubbish. I've since chatted with Alanna and she stands by what was printed. Alanna stated she loved talking to Loanne and ultimately Loanne was a huge defender of Parker. There are some odd about turns that Loanne does state that when you hear Loanne is so believable. I'm a bit torn myself who the correct story is told by. I've also since heard Todd Slaughter speak. Todd is the secretary of the UK Elvis fan club for something like 50 years. Todd states the US residency issue with Colonel Parker is so overstated. When Parker first entered the US, one didn't need a passport. If Parker had wanted to get a passport he could have easily done it. Yes he didn't travel to Germany where Elvis was and yes he didn't take Elvis overseas. Todd implied the fact Elvis didn't go overseas touring may very well be nothing to do with Colonel Parker's residency status.

In 1948, Parker was given the honorary rank of colonel in the Louisiana State Militia by Jimmie Davis, the governor of Louisiana. Alanna Nash accuses Parker of murder only because of the fact that a woman he didn't know was killed the day he left for the United States. This is far from enough to accuse someone of murder.

Can I just say to this, when you die, it isn't unusual for growth to occur. If you look at the book by Cole, Death of Elvis, you will see Dan Warlick quoted as saying that Elvis had white hair, he was completely white. I take that as grey but Dan Warlick stated he saw it. Now considering Elvis had his hair dyed only the day before, how did Dan Warlick so vividly see how white Elvis was. It's because Elvis hair in death had grown. I believe the story from Larry, it's too detailed and he maintained it for 50 years.

@mirka6104 Elvis wanted Larry to tell Ginger more about him is how I took it. From what I've read and from statements in interviews I feel like Ginger wouldn't relinquish herself completely to Elvis's wants and wishes. I think it frustrated him and I think he was struggling with communicating that to her. She didn't want to move into Graceland, she didn't want to go on certain tours, she wanted to go to certain events herself around Memphis, I suspect Ginger turned up when she wanted to turn up to Graceland... I think Elvis wanted someone else to explain to Ginger why the things Elvis asked were so important to him. Unfortunately I suspect Elvis way of trying to get her to do things was to buy her and her family members things, to make promises to her. Dare I say it, ask her to marry him.

Larry Geller made no decisions within the Elvis entourage. He also exaggerates his stories. He was an outsider who was just a hairdresser, into mysticism. Colonel did not like Geller as he was a bad influence and got rid of him. Geller turned up again after Red and Sonny left. Elvis could not afford to take a year off, he had far too many people relying on him. It was Elvis' blocked mega colon which caused the heart attack. Elvis should have been in hospital having an operation. He must have been in great pain, but Dr Nicopoulos signed him off fit and well for another tour. It was medical negligence that caused Elvis' death.

@zucan100
@zucan100 8 месяцев назад
I'm not particularly a Dr. Nick defender, believe me, however, I don't think diagnosing the extent of that megacolon was as easy as it might be today. While I strongly believe Dr. Nick was simply the wrong guy to actually help Elvis, I don't think Elvis passing was Dr. Nick's fault directly. Many have stated, including Larry in this interview. Elvis knew he had to make changes, he knew he had to look after himself better and unfortunately, he succumbed to what so many others do in life. They know what they need to do but they don't do it. Couple that with a strong addiction and he needed help that no one around him was able to provide. I suspect Larry knows a lot of things because he was there and he was around Elvis. We know that the insiders didn't want to upset Elvis because he could fly off the handle and so they protected or sheltered him from certain things. Things that we might look at and think were a no-brainer could infuriate Elvis especially depending on the chemicals he was consuming. I've even read previously that some folks would hang around waiting for Elvis to wake up back at Graceland because after he'd taken his wake up medication he could get benevolent and they might get a car or a piece of jewellery. It would be interesting to know what gifts Larry received.

@@jacquelineloveselvis Tish was an experienced nurse and her job was to issue the medication based on Nichopolous's prescriptions. Tish kept no records of what she issued and to this day averts blame for Elvis's drug taking to others. The latest documentary she says 'who gave him the codeine'. As if the codeine was the primary cause. Did Tish give Elvis his medication regularly at night or was it often others? We know it was others too. Were and are you allowed by law to store Schedule 2 narcotics, NO! Would Tish have known that, surely! Tish had a day job too. You say Elvis wasn't taking stuff willy nilly, I say Elvis took stuff when he wanted it and thought he needed it. Read Joe Esposito's book where they went and cleaned out his room after Elvis passed. In one part of the Loving Elvis documentary she is asked directly was Elvis an addict. I don't think so she says.
