What you don't understand it - Elvis INVENTED THIS. He was the first. Everybody else is a copy. When you say that you didn't know he could perform this way or sing like that I had to comment - he gave this to the world, he wasn't one of many, he was the original. Elvis was not hype, he could not be created and promoted, his popularity was organic and real - he blew the world up.

People forget why Elvis is the King. His vocals are amazing. You should hear his version of Bridge Over Trouble Waters, Unchained Melody, If I Could Dream... But overall he has a lot of power and there was nothing back in 60s to amplify or help. It's all his voice. 🙌🏼

Thank you for your great reaction. You can't imagine in 1956 when I was a 12 year old girl and saw this beautiful man on the Ed Sullivan show, it was like a freight train hit me. My father didn't want me to watch him. No one had seen anything like him. The teachers, preachers and most adults thought he should be banned from the airways. Seriously, he paid his dues to get here. You should see a piece of history in the short doc "Elvis Presley and the Black Community". When black people were the only ones accepting Elvis in the racist 50's . Thanks and be blessed

Elvis was the whole pkg. Handsome, charismatic and a voice that no one could copy. Micheal by the way looked up to Elvis. One of the reasons he married Lisa his daughter. I saw him 4 times and Micheal once, I have never seen an artist that captivated people like Elvis. He had the IT factor. Micheal was great but never equaled Elvis. Remember there was no internet. NO auto TUNE. No one even did concerts like that. You kind of look like Elvis. You could rock the look with a rap song. He is a rabbit hole that I have been down for 60 years. First time I saw him was at the Forum in LA about 1960. Women were seriously throwing bras at him. Unreal. Never saw another concert like that in my life. He was staying at the same hotel in Hawaii. He was very nice and funny.

I love watching people’s faces and body language when they are encountering Elvis for the first time. Listening then moving to his beat, then eyes staring and jaw dropping as the performance progresses. Mainly because they have no idea of the real talent behind the legend because all they have heard is about the caricature of the man. Fans of Elvis, old and now new, are very loyal as he was. Once an Elvis fan, always an Elvis fan. And we love seeing reactors today, falling in love with his voice, his musicality, his creativity, his personality and his humanitarianism. He recorded over 700 songs, served 2 years in the US Army, made 31 movies, 2 documentaries enthralled Vegas for years and toured all over America , selling millions and millions of records worldwide. ( vinyl of course, no downloads or streaming then!) As a contrast to this recording, do listen to his beautiful rendition in the same 68 Special, of the song “ Memories”. You’ll see another side of Elvis. He loved singing Gospel and won a Grammy for his performance of “ How Great Thou Art” see his 1977 performance of that one to hear the emotion, power and belief in the song. Please do more Elvis. As a preacher said of Elvis, “ he’s a bundle of energy put to music” & “ his echo will never die!” Thank you very much 🙏👌💕🕺

Women wanted him, men wanted to be him... 🕺🏻👑❤️‍🔥⚡🎶 He is the only artist inducted into multiple Halls of Fame (almost every one and remember he had to be considered a master in that genre). Decades later, he still holds the record for most singles sold at over 1 Billion and is also in Top 5 for album sales world wide. Those of his records that have been broken, only have been by those that took many more years to do it.

I was four when this special aired. My mom had dozens of Elvis Albums. My dad took her to his concerts every time he came to town. I remember when he did his show Aloha from Hawaii. It was the first time a live performance was televised via satellite around the world. It was a huge deal. My mom, aunties, grandmother, cousins and I all gathered around the television together to experience the charisma and passion that was Elvis.

Thanks for your reaction. So, you're only 27 or 28? Elvis was 33 in 1968. And sure, he oozed charisma, but it didn't hurt that he was gorgeous, too, LOL. Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LrFCyNMvZWk.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

When I was 10 years old my aunt gave me her Elvis collection…this was about a year after he passed. I was hooked immediately. There are singers who are technically good…then there’s Elvis. His music comes from his soul and touches the listeners soul. And you’re right, he definitely had charisma, and much more. At the time I wondered why she was giving me her collection, turns out she was very ill and died 2 months later. You might wanna check out his cover of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “If I Can Dream”.

The whole 68 special is fantastic. When you get done with that you can do Aloha from Hawaii and then Elvis from his Las Vegas days on tour. That was when he started wearing jumpsuits with the most dazzling designs. No one could pull that look off but Elvis. There are 31 movies with a few good videos. My favorite Elvis movie King Creole has a few great songs. My favorite one is the introduction which takes place in New Orleans Orleans with street venders singing about their wears and Elvis looks out the window and sings Crawfish as a duet. Love, love, love Elvis and love your reactions to Elvis.

In 1968, I was a 12 year old girl and I definitely watched Elvis' comback. We all were gathered around the TV just anxiously waiting to see him. (Remember, back then you had to wait until it aired live.)

Elvis is timeless... think about it, from his vocals, to his music, to his style to his fans... nearly 50 years after his death he is still getting new young fans, women still love him and so do men... I live in the Memphis area so I've been immersed in his life since the 50's when it was common to see him on the street, or the local drugstore.. he was our guy, we loved him then and we love him now. He will likely always be remembered. The anniversary of his death brings 10's of thousands people from around the world to Graceland. It is a glorious celebration and a reminder of his greatness. His demons finally got him and he was a very imperfect man but he was generous and kind and you never heard him say an unkind word or be critical of anyone. If you want the full story on E, you should come to Graceland where you will be shocked at his history and his contribution to music as a whole.

He got confident once he started performing. The truth is he was scared shitless to go onstage for this show.

I was 7 when this was aired. I've literally been an Elvis fan all my life. You should check out his American Trilogy from the '73 Aloha From Hawaii for the vocals alone. It was the first live concert viewed via satellite around the world. More people watched it than watched the Moon Landing.
