During the peak of his career, Elvis was drafted into the army. He remained on active duty for 2 years and was finally discharged 4 years later. But what was his time like there and how did it affect the King's career?

I'm so sorry Elvis died so young. If he had been able to stay away from medications that he had no business taking, I believe he would have lived a long and gracious life. He gave us a lot of good music, and personally I liked his movies.

He's a rare gem of a human being. With such talent and stardom, I'm sure, come other complications that we can't even imagine as regular people...

@ beverlycaldwell5470 I don't see it. But he looks a lot like his mom around the eyes, and she had her dad's eyes.

There is no way Elvis would have made 2 million being in the Army. You can google pay rates. He did his job regular and didn't make any extra pay. Plus, I heard he donated all his pay to the guys in his battalion. He also provided them with Tv's and other things they needed.

He had outside sources of income that continued while he was in the army.

@@paulsonj72 Oh, ok. I just meant his army pay started out at $80.00 which he donated to the other boys in his unit....

WHY wasn’t his head completely shaved like the rest of the inductees, and the rest of us veterans??? Made E5/6 quicker than most take to make SP4/Corporal, No “special treatment” my ass!!!

Elvis' "draft" into the Army ruined his career! That was a despicable "tactic" that "Colonel" Parker devised to keep Elvis under control, as Elvis did not comply with the colonel's guidelines regarding his "behavior" at the shows, in view of the complaints and threats of "moralistic leaders and religious" of the time (hypocrites), that they would end Elvis' career because of his "provocative and sensual" performance, driving the fans (mostly teenagers) "crazy". In fact, Parker feared for HIS own good, as he feared that his "golden boy", his money "machine" would no longer be able to perform in the USA. When Elvis returned from Germany and was discharged from the Army his career became "COLONEL TOM PARKER'S CAREER" until the end of Elvis' life! While Elvis was wasting away in every way, the Colonel was richer than ever!😔

Эта ситуация с Пресли разрывает сердце даже через 47 лет после его ухода.Жаль, очень жаль ,что он был игрушкой жулика Паркера !😢

@@ЛарисаМ-ц8я That's right! This Colonel was a smart guy who made Elvis his toy! I don't know if Elvis was too naive or too stupid to realize!

Ha ha, his service made him more provocative and sexy to women, and made him popular with military fans, fathers, soldiers, politicians, law enforcement, the government, to name a few.

@@drphil1949 Question of opinion friend! I think this was the Colonel's "tactic" to exert control over him, because of threats of boycott and censorship over Elvis' performances! The "Colonel" was afraid of losing his "golden goose!"
