HE WAS AND IS AWESOME!!! I know he's skeptical about using the words "graceful" and "beautiful" to refer to men's skating, but in his powerhouse way, HE IS!! Nobody hesitates to say a stallion or a stag is graceful and beautiful male animal, and Elvis the human belongs in that category!
Elvis also did DragonHeart in the '97 World Championships. And yeah the music is amazing. The clips used in this program come from the sections on the soundtrack CD called: Main Title, Sailing on the South China Sea, The Dragon's Heartbeat, and Victory at Ed Parker's. This soundtrack is one of the all time greats.
Looking back, this was the performance that set the bar for mens skating in terms of jumping. 8 triples and a quad in seven passes .... He was the prototypical breakthrough who made the quad mandatory ...
It was the Bruce Lee Soundtrack. He combined many of the songs to get what you hear in his perfromance. Very well done.. The DragonHeart soundtrack was performed by Philippe Candeloro
I usually prefer a classical style, but he makes this work brilliantly. Every moment is purposeful. And of course there are the great jumps. The music is awesome.
This routine was by far his best routine of all. It just seemed to mean more to him & hold more meaning, & I think that the audience could really feel that. I think that was more what all the applause was for rather than all the jumps.
In all fairness this man was a great skater. Although he was legendary for his jump his weakness was the artistic content of his program which he heard a lot during his run. He was very masculine in his appeal and the issue of artstic merit vs athletic and masculine appeal is still very much an issue in men's figure skating even today.
hey someone said this music is from dragonheart, but that movie came out in 1996. this was in 1994 correct? I absolutley love this song and i have been trying to figure out what it is called for the LONGEST time. please someone give me the name of the title and the composer. Thank you!!!
Well he has a more masculine style, but it is totally artistry, no one is used to it. You really have to give him credit for challenging what is expected in men's skating!
@ThePoopChef There isn't anything pathetic about him. He's always been inclined to ramble and pontificate some. He's a thinker. Ooh, imagine it, an athlete with his own brain! C'mon! Now, I think he was a little harsh directing his comments AT Even L, and Elvis should know better, given what he went through and what crap was directed at him by commentators during his amateur career. His emotions aside, take a look at the thought content, he has a valid point. YOU are just name calling.
I agree, but if you compare him to say Surya Bonaly whom I love, Elvis has edges and good basic skating skills and musicality.. it's easy to see why he became world champion and another muscle skater Surya never did.
Well, I wasn't comparing him to Bonaly... who just scratch up the ice... I can't believe they ever gave her medal ! But yes he is a better skater then her.
Never like his skating.. he had all the artistry of a parking meter, it was almost embrassing. But what I find most distrubing is how he wont go away..always knocking men's skating, and in particular Patrick Chan... he is so jealous that Chan is a skater he could never dream of being !
I am sorry but Elvis seriously does not have an artistic style...its like watching a robot..he sinks into the ice...he should have taken up boxing not figure skating...
