Embarrassing moment Suella Braverman struggles to explain her own asylum policy. Suella Braverman has been accused of being 'out of her depth' after conceding many asylum seekers would need to come to the UK in order to submit a claim. MPs said there is a 'shortage of safe and legal routes' to the UK for asylum seekers after the Home Secretary struggled to explain how an orphaned African child fleeing war and religious persecution, who has a sibling living legally in the UK, would be able to make a claim from abroad. Political opponents said it shows Ms Braverman 'doesn’t understand her own asylum policy.'

I really don’t I understand the comments here. SHE clearly told him , we have legal ways to ask for asylum. But idiots around the world keep taping on that key like anyone can ask for asylum. That’s where USA screwed up and here we are. Brother you go to any country at the door and you ask for asylum. SIMPLE .

The point, I think, is that she and her successors (especially when trying to defend the Rwanda policy) have repeatedly used rhetorical phrases like 'illegal immigrants' to turn public opinion against bona fide asylum seekers (especially those crossing the channel), and falsely implying that there are legal and safe routes to enter the country, when the reality (as this question exposes brilliantly) is that (i) there are no legal or safe routes to enter the UK from countries other than those listed such as Ukraine and Afghanistan; and (ii) it is not illegal to enter the UK and claim asylum.
