Thank you so much for this!! It was exactly what I was searching for and worked flawlessly in a canvas discussion post, even with embedded sound files on a couple of slides. Great job describing how to do it!
Thank you so much for this extremely clear instructional video! Might you have a video on how to embed an activity from a subscription like Formative or Genially? I appreciate your videos so much!
I might indeed! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O00xvi2YFao.html Grabbing the embed code depends on the platform, but they typically make it somewhat easy to find.
Would it not be better to upload into your Canvas files and link from there so that you do not have to worry about the link to your Google or OneDrive? Then if you copy the classroom the file is always part of the course.
I am not given an embed code option when I select Share on my OneDrive. The options given are: Share with People, Email, Send Adobe PDF for Review, and Present online. Am I missing something?
It's possible that IT has disabled that function or that they need to enable it. I would reach out to your IT Microsoft person. My hope is that one day this function will be available on the desktop application, but as of this morning I still don't see it.
When I attempt to embed, the ppt shows up as a greyed out box that has a "sign in" box in the center. Is there a way to make it load automatically and not have to sign in?
I can't think of a workaround. At my institution, we use SSO, so our login spans platforms (if you're in Canvas then you're automatically in Office, Padlet, smartthinking, etc.). You might check to see if when you get the embed code if you can get public embed code so people don't have to sign in. I don't have that option because at the account level our IT people have disabled public sharing.
Thank you for the information. This works to a point but I lose the ability of Powerpoint to annotate during the slide show by using the 'Pen' or the 'Highlite' options. Is there a way to have these options work in the embedded PPT? Also, will this work with a Microsoft Sharepoint account / PPT instead of Onedrive? Thank you
Slide annotations can be so useful, but you'll likely need to be presenting normally to use those features. Right now I can't figure our embedding from SP - just OneDrive.
This technique should be completely browser-based and wouldn't depend on a particular operating system. I would check with the institution's IT folks if you're having problems, as they may have some restrictions set in place.
Nice, but how do you embed a recorded ppt show, i.e. a ppsx file, onto Canvas? I've uploaded one, but you only see individual slides with the microphone symbol, but it's not playing the recorded voice-over. Please help? MS Stream doesn't seem to recognize ppsx files any more, so I can't go through Stream. Thanks
I haven't tried that but I might explore it this week. I know that for one you'll likely want to hide that icon. Double click on it to pull up the playback ribbon and in the audio options you can select "hide during show". You can determine if the audio plays at a certain time in the animations ribbon - such as after another element animates or at the beginning of the slide. When you click the icon and select Add Animation, there is an option to "animate" when the audio plays (or pauses/stops).
Thank you for your video! Do you know if there is a way to remove the navigation bar if i want users to go through my presentation with clickables in the presentation only?
Unfortunately I have found a way to remove that. One thing I haven't tried that you could look at is to save the presentation in kiosk mode [slide show ribbon >> Set up show >> (show type) Browsed at a kiosk], and then maybe Save as... and select PowerPoint Show instead of PowerPoint Presentation from the file type. You'll just need to make sure that there are clickable elements on each slide to guide the navigation.
When I do this, it doesn't work. Only I can see the presentation as other people don't seem to have permissions... the message I get is "can not connect" but I'm assuming this is because of permission for others to my onedrive??
There might be a setting when sharing, such as "people within my organization" "anyone with a link" or "specific people". My institution locked out sharing to people outside of my organization, but as long as their logged into Canvas (obviously with their institutional credentials), they can view the embedded content. If you do have the option to share with anyone who has the link then that would ensure people have permission to view it. I would inquire with the IT department to see what settings would work at your institution.
You'll need to petition your IT folks or the O365 administrator. I advocate not locking down the permissions to at least allow for embedding within an LMS. But other folks have different views on policy.
Great tutorial don't suppose you know how I make it so that when it loads in Canvas it's not asking for the students to sign in? I have tried changing every permission I can find but no luck.
You might consider setting up a trigger for that. I haven't created a tutorial on that yet, but here's a good read: www.brightcarbon.com/blog/powerpoint-triggers-make-something-happen/
