Ember of Edinburgh operate the UK's first fully electric long distance intercity bus service from Dundee to Edinburgh via Perth. This was my first time on a Chinese Yutong coach and I was pleasantly surprised. This is part of our new 'green' future, and it looks fabulous. I just hope these fine buses can stand the jolting of our roads.

Can you show the wheelchair spaces too when you travel? Especially if you're passing by. There's was a tiny glimpse there of my "seat" but not quite enough. We never seem to get tables and USBs like everyone else 🤬

I tried an Ember electric bus between Glasgow and Stirling yesterday. I wanted to compare it with the diesel Citylink coaches I am used to. The Ember coaches have more space between the seats . Seat comfort is about the same as a Citylink coaches (which have aircon just like the Ember buses). The Ember bus is quieter at 30 mph but I thought it was noisier at motorway speed than a diesel coach. I also banged my head on the overhead console when I got up to leave. I am only 5 foot 8 inches. So I think headroom is poorer than on a Citylink coach. With Ember buses (unlike Citylink) you have to pre book a seat on the internet. They stop at the business park in Stirling which is 3 miles from the main bus station. There is a connecting shuttle bus but this is obviously not as convenient. Ember buses only stop at one location in Dunblane not two like the Citylink coaches. Overall I felt that the Ember buses offer no real advantage over the existing Citylink diesel coaches. The main advantage of Citylink is that you don't have to book in advance.

I wonder if it's really possible to run Dundee to Penzance on this type of coach or Dundee to London Victoria Coach Station.

All citys buses should go with electric buses to help with the environment

Yes, but they won’t. Because they’re expensive, and most bus depots (here in London anyway) don’t have the space, nor the resources for electric chargers. TFL (Transport For London) are broke, and the bus companies themselves don’t make any profit. All profit is made by the railway and is the only way these companies even run buses and drivers… so no way it’s gonna happen

Wonder why UK is taking so long to replace all buses with electric ones !

The buses I used to drive in London didn’t even meet the emissions standards, but we got away with it because we didn’t drive into emission restricted zones… a lot of the buses were running on their 2nd or even 3rd engine replacement because the company cannot afford new buses… so they run the ones the own to their death EVEN if it hurts the environment. They don’t care. Everything is about money

@@willziak Railways are only profitable with Government subsidies because the cost of rolling stock, infrastructure and maintenance are too great. The UK Government split them to cover this up but it inevitably failed. Individuals have made money from railways but only by being in there early and getting out fast. A basic financial strategy. The Tory UK Government wants users to pay for the railways. This is a sound bite and idiotic. It would then be far too expensive for the vast majority to afford and would therefore fail.

China is revealing the dire lack and misdirection of industrial investment in the UK. Money has gone into China to make quick profits so this is the result. Totalitarian China has used Capitalism to benefit itself and then buy influence in other parts of the World, especially Africa. It has been said that Capitalism would destroy itself so now we see how. It will sell its grandmother into slavery for a fast buck. Great video in a great series Scott. Very informative.

Potentially a very interesting video. Pity about the inane background tinkling, which drowns ou the sound of the bus. Hoping this interference can be wiped out, allowing us to enjoy the video.

So a short distance bus. Not much saved for the planet there then. Meanwhile Russia, China, India, S Africa and many others polluting the planet daily a million times worse. Appreciate your concern.

Inter-city between Edinburgh/Dundee and Dundee/Glasgow. These are actually longer trips than most people in the UK ever travel by bus. City based buses can easily be replaced by electric and this is a step further. It's to be celebrated. BTW China has more electric buses than the rest of the world combined ... guess where these buses are made!

It’s a bit further than San Francisco to Sacramento. Are the coaches used on that route considered to be short distance buses?
