I worked aboard this vessel when I was young. I appreciated the gift that the Bering sea provides anyone who is willing to be brave enough to face it, and withstand it for prolonged periods - year after year. Having worked on several different vessels, I am familiar with what true hospitality is amongst even the hardest fisherman. The only comradeship is amongst those whom are from the same small town in Washington; Wenatchee, and the crew makes it very clear that if you aren’t from there, you simply just aren’t as cool as them.
That's What It's All About, Hard Ass Grinding Work With A Permanent Smile No One Can Remove, Hopefully I Will Get An Opportunity This Season To Show Grit, Determination And Focus, Fish On !!!!!!!
This boat must not have any problem getting and keeping the employees they want...I have tried several times to contact them about applying for a job and they never respond.
Good observation, don't come to the boat if that's a problem. Fisherman are like women at times, bickering back and forth, but they are the baddest Muthafuckas outside the armed services and the penitentiaries. They are proud because they do what not many men can do, and they do it well. They give their best in all sorts of conditions you can never understand. Wether it's weather, mindset, injury, hardships at home, or personal loss, I've seen men consistently take the initiative, have commitment to their craft, and perform at a level that is never below the high standards they set for themselves and their team. Their ego is their pride of having persistence in the face of the problems that pertain to the different individuals. Theirs is a dangerous, dangerous job, which I have personally almost died on more than once, and worked through injuries of all kinds. To mention ego in this setting efines the ego that you contain in your persona. Ego and pride yes. Complaints about the state of the character of humanity as a whole. Ignorant. Go to work on the Baranof if you want a humble and caring crew of compassionate companions to talk about the ridiculousness of people taking pride in their work, especially where it's due.
