That "ledge that doesn't serve any purpose" holds your toilet's water tank and the toilet's waste pipe... So yes, it has a very important purpose! Even though I renovated my bathroom 20 years ago I have the same situation. It's very common with wall-hung toilets; you have to put the tank somewhere and since they usually back onto a brick wall the only way to do it is to build out, and that creates a ledge. (rijwoning built in '52 so we have the same kind of construction) Your end result looks great!!!

I have an idea that could help visually "fill" the space without creating any clutter. You could paint the horizontal tiles a contrasting color so it gives the effect of a countertop and helps break up all the white. I love how it looks regardless, just thought I'd mention that in case you like the idea! ❤

The final decor touches really made it come together! It's clean and functional, but also looks lived in. As someone who lived her entire life with those types of bidet though, I have to say - keep it! It's a boon to be able to comfortably and quickly clean yourself, especially post-partum! Intimate hygiene after giving birth can be difficult, and the ability to just sit down and clean yourself with warm running water is so much more comfortable and easier!

I can imagine it'll be quite useful then! 😄 I'd sometimes use it on my period, too.

We have a bidet toilet seat … it’s the best for postpartum care & period cleanup. I used to take 3-4 showers a day on my period because I don’t like the felling of dried blood, now I don’t have to. Is it awkward to move from one seat to the other to use the bidet? I love the convenience of having it right on my toilet seat.
@Bkate23
@Bkate23 6 месяцев назад
@@ElizabethChronis I like being separate, because in the end of the day it is another sink, with the only difference that is low and in the shape of a toilet. So if it is separate you can wash your feet or whatever in it, while if it is on the toilet not.
@sofiaoutandabout
@sofiaoutandabout 6 месяцев назад
@@ElizabethChronis the advantage of this type is that you can straddle it very comfortably (you sit facing the tap). The position gives you a lot of space to reach and clean, it's great. And, of course, it's more practical for reaching for soap and has the advantage of having warm water like any other regular tap. To move from the toilet to the bidet you just have to pivot on one foot. You don't even have to take your pants off, just leave them by your ankles!

So great - I was just hoping you would embrace those really cool colored fixtures, rather than replacing them with plain ones. What I have learned is that, sometimes when you are forced to make do with what you have, features that you didn’t love can actually wind up growing on you. I think the mirror cabinet is a great solution, and I actually think the tile around the sink is pretty and unique, despite being a bit inconvenient.
@-ParisTexas-
@-ParisTexas- 6 месяцев назад
I'm guessing both ledges (but at least the one behind the toilet) hides the plumbing! You could spray paint the hardware. Except for the taps probably. Or try marktplaats to replace them. Easy fix! It looks a lot better. Maybe a blind and perhaps a radiator cover would also really make a difference.

Okey hear me out. Paint the ceiling and the stripe in the tile pink. I think that would make the whole space look so much more intensional and “modern vintage”. Plus the blush pink is light enough to not make the space much darker

@aeolia80

ah! I'm not too fond of bidets like that, but..... hear me out....... you'll want it after you have your baby, because if you have a vaginal birth bidets like that will come in handy since you won't be able to use toilet paper to clean yourself, especially if you've ripped or had an episiotomy and have stitches down there. Also since there is a plug in that bidet, you can easily do a sitz bath in it, which will help in healing your perineum.

You mentioned it feeling a little bare, and I agree! I think it just needs a bit more color. There is so much white everywhere. Painting the door a nice rich natural green, or maybe sage would warm it up and make it feel a bit cozier. I wish like the above comment about painting the tile ledges!

You made great choices considering the constraints. Personally, i don‘t like putting storage units over the toilet because i‘m paranoid about stuff dropping into the toilet. I‘m especially paranoid about that bidet, even if it‘s unused. Is there a cover you can install on it? Anyway, i hope you get your dream bathroom someday. I look forward to that makeover.

I'd put the cotton pads, qtips and all that decoration, where you put the candle and matches, and those, where the qtips, and cotton pads/soaps are. Because candle... perfume... toilet... you know haha. And then cotton pads and qtips where the candle is, so you can have them close, when you use skincare, or get out of the shower, etc, as you'll be doing your routin in front of the sink. I don't know if i'm making any sense, but yeah hahaha, I love how it looks like!!! And bidets are GREAT! I'm from south america, we use them... they're amazing, very quick and easy to use, and help a lot to avoid irritation from using only toilet paper or baby wipes and so on :P Give it a chance!! haha

If you do want to have the bidet removed you could already do so and top off the water pipes (but let someone do it with plumbing experience/a plumber), will make the room more spacious for example, especially if you anoyed by the area the bidet takes up. But you will I think see where the pipes are topped off so that might also not be that desirable. But could be something to think about.

Nice job! I was going to suggest dyeing the bath mats... but then again I've got dark purple bath mats pretty much lining my whole washroom floor because I hate bare feet on cold flooring. If you wanted to spice things up, stencilling some designs in a contrasting colour with paint on top of some of the tiles could really change things up, and if you hate it, it would scrape off with a little paint remover.

I’m the US laundry machines in the bathroom are a common thing and I HATE it😅 because my dryer is right next to the toilet 😓 and it makes it awkward to load and unload plus the added stress of having to be 100% sure the lid is closed so as to not drop a freshly cleaned item into the toilet 😖 which has happened unfortunately but 🤷🏻‍♀️ eh, waddaya gonna do … I just make sure I am not switching up the laundry while I am half asleep 😂 I do have a smaller combination washer/ ventless steam dryer on the ground level and it works awesome for summer time but the drain pipe freezes in the winter no matter how hot I have the water 🥹 had to learn that the hard way unfortunately lol!
