In this tutorial, I teach you how to create an Edwardian hair roll using your own hair as stuffing as well as teasing. If you’d like any extra help please comment below and let me know what you think! Every hair type is different, so if you don’t use very well try hair spraying the roots of your hair before you tease it. It also helps to have your hair a little greedy and dirty with product to get it to hold the fluffy shape.
In this video, I also show you how to use hair stuffing. Ever been in antique store and wonder why there’s so many cute little containers with a hole in the center? These are hair catchers, and back in The Victorian age into the turn of the century, women would collect their hair from their brushes. One of the reasons they did this was to collect hair so that their loved ones could make jewelry after they had passed. I know this sounds kind of gross but if you ever come across it, it is gorgeous and delicate. But, women collected their hair so that they could ceate these massive fluffy hairstyles that so defined this period. It allows you to match your hair stuffing to your own natural hair, and also not waste what you brush out. I also use hair stuffing in my 1940 styles as well, it helps give you extra body if your hair doesn’t want to tease. I collect hair from my paddle brush when it starts to get too hairy and then save the hair and roll it into little balls.
You will need:
Suavecita Pomade
Reproduction or original metal or plastic vintage straight hair pins
Curved or straight bobby pins
Wave clips
Rat tail comb
Teasing comb
Hair combs or ribbon to decorate the style

Hi Jessica! I'm blessed to have found your channel. It's subscribed! As an all things historical & vintage addict, I really love the accuracy & authenticity of your hairstyles. You know, it's such a pity that historical films & series don't make their hairstyling accurate. If only they hire you as a hairstylist. Yourself is a history. So elegant and beautiful, straight out of historical portraits. Btw this particular style is more late Edwardian and 1910s rather than the main "Edwardian" (1900-1910), isn't it?

Thank you so kindly! I do strive for accuracy! It's why I started filming my hair styling, I was disappointed in how tutorials that say they are vintage...are not actually authentic. I like to use products and devices that are close to or exactly what they would have used. Yes you can use a curling iron, by why if you can do it the way they did with better results?! I would love to do hair styling for historical movies, I have lots of complaints. But I will admit, I'm better at doing my own hair then others! You are correct on that, definitely end of the 10s, but fun fact I learned working in museums, depending on which hstorian you ask, the Edwardian era is sometimes extended to the start of the First World War! Thanks for watching!

Beautiful… I wish my hair was long and thick enough to do this but sadly it’s not.

Women in the edwardian era used lots of hair pieces! You can too! They sell hair fillers that you can wrap your hair around to give it more volume. I also use my own hair harvested from my brushes to stuff for volume sometimes. I'd recommend teasing your hair, pin the filler to your head and wrap your teased hair around it and smooth it over. Hope that helps!
