My word for 2019 is "Authentic". I want to get honest with myself and my life. It's hard to face the facts. I don't think I'm truly living unless I get real.

She was so fortunate to have someone who saw her as she was and was so ready to defend her. I have never felt seen by my parents, now I struggle to know who I am

My mom attended a Catholic School in her formative years, (40's-early 50's), and she also experienced getting wacked across the hand by a ruler a few times by the nuns. Fortunately for my mom, their was a nun who treated her with fairness & compassion. The nuns also used 'bully' tactics to get Native American males to cut their long hair; how ironic, since many 'near- death testimonies' often report seeing both Jesus and God with long hair. Opps! In addition to this, the nuns often treated Native Americans as if they didn't have a clue about anything. When, all along, it was the nuns who were lost and who were most afraid of 'living authentically.' Not something God condones -that's forsure! 'The girl's grandma 'stepped up to the plate,' and quickly restored this young girl's sense of worth & identity. The grandma is a CHAMPION in every sense of the word! Continued Blessings for this WHOLE & BEAUTIFULLY AUTHENTIC WOMAN. Elise

Wow 1) thank you so much for your courage, and tremendous respect for your mom! 2) message is spot on. People set up false expectations of who you should be, they are far weaker and thus don't allow them to shape you. You are yourself and don't allow anyone to take that from you. Always be true to yourself and let others sort themselves. Be genuine, that's how you find your true self. You own your life, which is finite, what do you want to do? That is the mission you need to follow....

Waoo. You are so true to life now a days. As women we are been taught to just follow. But as we grow older we learned that we are all alone and we have to be who we are. Not what they say we have to be. Thanks for sharing. Love it

That was so sweet what your grandmother did for you. I never used to want to do my homework in 4th grade and I was forced to stand in front of the class by a family member to apologize to the class and promise to do my homework. I was so embarrassed

Actually, most parent’s turn a blind eye and/or buy into the conformist systems of education. Parents trust the state to raise their children.

I thought the same thing in a way. Ted talks are usually a mixed crowd but she keeps talking as if women are the only ones with the issue of confidence and not following dreams

Yeah; only in my opinion, it made a pretty inconsistent, incongruent talk even worse.
@siennabenjamin209
@siennabenjamin209 5 лет назад
She only knows what it's like to be a woman. She's only speaking from what she knows and feels. It's obvious that she feels a strong connection with being a woman.
@chasepplaysgames7624
@chasepplaysgames7624 6 лет назад
Wow; I'm sad to say this but this talk was *objectively pretty terrible*. I was really excited to listen when I read the promising title. Oh, and I have no reason to say this other than that it's the truth. Maybe the speaker *should* prepare / gather feedback. She spoke about how amazing, how impactful, how incredible this 'same talk' was received in the past right; immediately after she said this talk was completely "off the cuff". She then rambled about pretty incongruent things; the only congruency being she occasionally would slip her own narcissistic praises in stories. Then for some equally incongruent reason, she makes her already very poor story about gender somehow. Listen back to your talks, prepare a bit, you need congruency and some foundational structure.
@elimarrin
@elimarrin 4 года назад
Incongruent? It's all about being herself, nothing more congruent than that. Your comment says more about your lack of understanding about her than an actual accurate critique of the talk. That's ok, you don't have to connect at all with this. But that doesn't mean it's incongruent.
