I agree. I have barudans and the button as well. Sew at 650, and going across the seam on some Richardson 112, snaps a needle 8 out of 10 times. Very frustrating. Been doing this 20 years. The throat plates and buttons are expensive, but didn't totally fix the problem. Very frustrating !!!

This is the original needle plate, but Barudan made the spacer to take up some of the space under a cap. I think i ordered it from Barudan since i didnt have one, bought the machine used. Thanks for watching ! !
I never use backing with these, they are very stiff and hold registration really well. If i am stitching unstructured hats, i will use backing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
If the stitch density is really high, it will bird nest and break needles, but thats not the only cause. I try to stitch hats at 650 to 700 rpm, sometimes slower. I digitize the files myself, and maintenence the machine as well, so if the issues start i have to do the trial and error method, LOL
@Christine Frank They should not have problems with broken needles because if the needle is not well placed or the design is not well digitized can cause that, the machine must be in optimal conditions to work calmly, I have the 15 threads and I work the caps at 850 and in 9 months I only break the needle 5 times
