Join 762 Media as we visit Puffing Billy in the very early hours of the morning to see the Railway's involvement in the Emerald RSL Anzac Day Dawn service. April 25th marks the anniversary of the first ever campaign that lead to major casualties during the First World War for ANZAC troops; troops of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, two then young countries being in 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey.
2024 marked the return of 12A to this operation of an early morning light engine run from Belgrave to Emerald and return for the service, fitted with a Victorian Railways Broad Gauge 5 chime whistle which is blown at the end of the Minutes silence to recognise the role the VR played in transport the soldiers to ships bound for the war zones. This operation has run like this since 2021.

Our coverage meets the loco shortly after arriving at Emerald and after the service and layover to meet the track patrol we will follow the light engine run back to Belgrave with plenty of whistling from the classic and much louder 5 chime whistle.
