We planted 50 of them 4 weeks ago. They are all still looking good. Luckily I got a friend that's a human machine. Dig all the holes with a shuffle. I do use a soaker hose. Putting manure down tomorrow and covering the soaker hoses with mulch. They are still vulnerable. Hoping they all survive.

Thanks for sharing Richard. Definitely keep those soaker hoses going throughout the summer for sure.

Have you considered a DIY irrigation or soaker hose irrigation and maybe a timer? I’m in zone 7B. I just bought 30 arborvitae trees. I plan to use an auger. I’m still figuring out my irrigation plan. Please consider doing a video on straightening your tree once it’s been in the ground. Do you think the lightening of the tree is from less water?
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
Hi Lashell! Yes, I actually bought some soaker hoses last year and used them for a while, but didn't stay consistent. Like you suggested, I do plan on using some soaker hoses this year with a timer. I did that at one of my rentals to grow grass and it worked extremely well. I'll do a video of straightening the tree if I haven't already straightened it out. I'm not sure what the lightening of the tree is coming from. It's been fertilized and we haven't been having high heat for it to need a lot of water. I also amended the soil well with that one. I'll keep making videos so I can show the progress.

Wow! Nice house, big lot. Didn’t know they where building four sided brick homes in SC. You don’t see four sided brick that often anymore.
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
Thank you. They’re not doing it in a lot of communities, there were only 3 communities at the time (early 2020) that were offering 4 side brick. No new construction is offering it now. They will do front side brick and the rest hardy plank.

Nice. These will give you privacy in your yard and even help a little with keeping the noise down. Consider extending your hedge between the houses for more privacy.
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
Thank you. I did consider bringing the trees further up between the houses. On the left side of the house the property line is too narrow, and that side is where I need it most. The other side is where I can do it, but want to think through if I really want them there. Plus that area doesn’t get as much sun.

Thanks for the videos, do you happen to know why some of the tops of mine flop over? Also I have some leaves that turned brown on one side only? Thoughts?
@BiggCope
@BiggCope 21 день назад
@@annettemurphy1764 I’m not absolutely sure why the tops of some flop over. I just experienced this in the last 30 days with a tree 🌲 that’s been in the ground for 18-20 months. I know it started after weeks of heavy rain 🌧️. I also think that the branches are still young and aren’t as strong. I also bought 2 new trees from Home Depot back in June. Those trees were about 6 foot and the tops were flopping. Other than those 3, I haven’t had any others to flop like that n

Nice! How far apart did you plant them?
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
They’re all 3 feet apart. There are two places where I put them 4 feet apart due to sprinkler heads being in the way. I need to make an update video. They’re all doing well and I’ve added a drip system for watering.

First year will be slow growth. Your clay soil and hot temps are probably not doing them any wonders. Give them time, they are a hardy tree.
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
Thank you. I really tried to dig bigger holes and fill them with tree and shrub soil to give the newer ones a better chance. I’ve also been fertilizing them on schedule as well.

What was wrong with how you planted them?what should have you done?
@BiggCope
@BiggCope Год назад
I didn’t dig the hole properly. The tag on the tree says twice as wide and twice as deep as the root ball. Well that’s a pretty big hole and I had to dig a lot of them. So I got slack on some of the holes. I also was knocking the dirt from the pot off of the tree, which I think was a mistake too. The tree was used to being in that soil and it drained well. So I now dig bigger and deeper holes, leave the soil from the pot on the roots and pour tree and shrub soil into the hole. If you’re only planting a few trees, it’s easier to dig the bigger holes. Yet when you have 52 to plant 😖….it’s a lot of work. Just wanted to share my story to help others.
@bhadz100
@bhadz100 Год назад
@@BiggCope dang I didn’t do the same for the green giants I planted. I wonder if the size really matters. On the contrary I think you need to loosen the roots from the soil as much as possible.
@TheBsEr
@TheBsEr Год назад
@@BiggCope hmm everywhere I read is twice as wide but depth is the same depth as root ball (rather than twice as deep).
