Following days of fighting between the military and local Fano militiamen, Ethiopia's government on Friday proclaimed a six-month state of emergency in the nation's second-largest area, Amhara, giving it the authority to impose curfews, limit mobility, and forbid gatherings.

Declaring public emergency when the government itself is a threat to the citizens is deceitful and deceiving. Ethiopia Government who is now formed with only one Ethnic group "Oromo" have been genociding and ethnic cleansinng on non-Oromos people particularly on Amhara ethnic in the last 5 years . More than 80% of all economic, military, energy, banking are dominated by amhara people. In terms of violence, the entire world knows what fano did in tigray; the raping, the destruction of infrastructure, and the heinous genocide carried out by fano. It’s kind of unfair to put all the blame on Abiy for this, this is a result of 30 years of oppression under the TPLF. Don’t give me wrong, he’s made mistakes, like not having a discussion on disarmament before acting on it. However he ingrates a very tough political system, ethnic federalism, from the TPLF. It is probably near impossible to have peace when we are divided along our ethnicity. If we don’t undress the root cause of all these issues, which is ethnic federalism, then I don’t see how there will ever be peace, without the government turning more authoritarian.
