The ultimate mylar sealing test! Which device will properly seal a mylar bag? It's the impulse sealer vs the household iron vs a flat iron. This was my first time using an impulse sealer and I was definitely surprised at the results!

The flatiron has the advantage of not having to lay the bag down when sealing. Laying the bag down can be difficult if it is a big bag and could spill into your sealing area.

Another advantage of the impulse sealer is that you can partition larger(wider) bags and then use them in a vacuum sealer, or just seal them.

I've got 7.5 mil/15 mil total (both sides) bags, 2 gallon, 13 inches wide. They have ziplock tops and can be heat sealed as well. I've had items in them for a couple weeks with oxygen absorbers so they should be fine with the ziplock, but decided to buy an impulse sealer just to be sure. I read a lot of reviews on amazon and ended up ordering the Wallaby 16 inch for $65. Some commenters here on YT mentioned how I could use the other two methods you showed but I don't want to use my clothes iron for uses other than clothes, and the flat iron doesn't have good results. With the impulse sealer, you can always seal the bag in two spots to be sure. I don't have a lot of Mylar storage to seal (maybe 10 bags) but I think it's worth the peace of mind.

I sell mylar bags and sealers in Norway and recommend the impulse sealer. I tell people to seal the bag in 2 - 3 spots for redundancy to be certain. Clothes irons work well but it's a bit clumsy.

It's funny how things change in a matter of weeks. I started with 10 bags to seal but since getting my impulse sealer I've bought more bags & food items. Have probably sealed more like 20-30 bags now. Good investment. Fuse blew 1st time using. Luckily it came with spares, and I ordered more off Amazon just in case. So far I've only been through that one fuse. I like your videos and you're easy on the eyes 😁. New subscriber!

Water is #1 on my list of priorities when it comes to emergency preparation. I recommend storing water in any quantity available to you but do it in containers approved for water storage. I've seen outdoor storage containers that can hold hundreds of gallons of water all the way down to 5 or 1 gallon containers placed within your home. The possibilities are endless :)

Thanks for asking! In this video I'm using 1 gallon sized bags that I purchased from store.churchofjesuschrist.org They are by far THE best mylar bags I've purchased. The ones I received from amazon were very thin and would tear easily.

Can I use the my shorter impulse sealer on wider bags? Do you think overlapping the seal will do the trick? Wallaby has impulse 25% off today but I just can't justify it at this time. Ill be so mad when I have the $50 in two weeks and it will be back up in price but what can you do? I have a second hand 8" but haven't tried it.

@@BeccaS1 The mylar bags in this video are 7 mils in thickness and they are very sturdy. The first set of mylar bags I purchased was through amazon and it was listed as 10 mils but that's a joke and absolutely not accurate. They were very flimsy and tore easily. Check out our video on Emergency Food Storage: Rice and Beans so you can see the cheaper amazon bags Im talking about. They are measuring both sides of the bag when in the US we measure one side only. There's a noticeable difference even through the camera lens :)
