A relatively cheap to make, lightweight and pocket sized emergency survival fire kit.
The kit gives backpackers, preppers, survivalists and bushcrafter's an excellent fire kit should they find themselves in an emergency.

Big fan of Forest Fundamentals and Born Survivor here. Lot of information packed into ten minutes - other prepper channels should take note............ appreciate no crappy music and begging for money/Amazon wish lists. I like the bright orange for a lot of my stuff - much easier to see; good tip about the zip. Thankyou :)

Morning Alan, Great little pocket sized kit. Im always building and rebuilding kits and have ever since i first got into survival back in 1976. Always looking to improve or upgrade my existing kits. Thats why i love these kinds of videos as it helps to give people ideas for their own types of kit. If youve got any room in your pouch you might be able to squeeze a couple of feet of folded up tin foil just to help if trying to light a fire on damp or wet ground. And maybe a tampon or 2 to increase the burn time of those fire plugs in really bad weather. But your kit as is would be more then enough to build many fires and help you survive. Enjoy your weekend mate. ATB Rob 😊

Solid kit. The fresnel lense is one of the easiest ignition methods and is wildly overlooked I keep one inside my phone case and another inside my boo-boo kit for magnification when I need to pull slivers. You may have already known this (as the one in you kil looks like it may be one) but there are several manufacturers of magnesium bodied pencil sharpeners and that give you another tool for the same space. Years ago I took a spill into freezing water on a winter solo camping trip. After that experience I no not rely on ferro rods or lighters I did not have the manual dexterity to make them function and I needed a fire immediately. I got lucky and was able to get a fire going by firing a pen flare into my drinking cup, but ever since then I have carried some sort of instant fire starter. I moved from the pen flare to road flares, and am now using something called a pullstart fire which is now my go-to emergency firestarter.

Thank you for watching, unfortunately the pencil sharpener is made of aluminium 😕 I also keep a fresnel lens in my pocket cuts kit. Sounds like you had a lucky escape when you took a dunking. I'll take a look at your suggestion, thank you 👍 Enjoy your day and thanks for watching.

Hi Alan. That's a proper fire kit. My kits consist of the same methods, with a few differences ... My candles are the "Prank Birthday Candles" (they won't blow out). I've done well with the generic Ferro rods.. Exotacs are $25 plus over in the States. And I make Vaseline cotton balls & get a good 5-10 minutes of useful fire out of those. A ferro rod will light those in quick order. I also have a few of the excellent Firedragon cubes. Another item that's popular in the States are the "Buddy Burners"... an empty tuna or chicken can with straps of corrugated cardboard and candle wax poured into the cardboard and can. I thought I'd mention that because you guys always have so much rain. Take care. PS... Automobile emergency Road Flares burn HOT, (for damp tinder/kindling)can be extinguished with water or sticking the buring end in a mound of dirt, and re-used.

Sounds like you're well sorted. Thank you for sharing what you carry 👍 Yep we do get our fair share of rain 🤣🤣 Cotton wool balls and petroleum jelly are cheap and very effective fire starters. Any scout sized ferro rod would fit. Enjoy your weekend 👍

Great idea on the candle for drying tinder and the pencil sharpener! Very nice small. Water is now a big problem here in Southern Spain. I do carry a bit of fatwood that came with the ferro rod but it is a bulkier kit. Expecting the regional government to close all the pools in private apartment complexes very soon. Only hotel pools will be open. The beaches will be crowded this summer! Take care brother.

Morning Alan, another item I found out was a good item for starting a fire was the Hand Sanitiser in my First Aid kit (as long as it is 70% Alcohol) I tried a little squirt as a quick and dirty test on some cotton wool and it works, as an alternative to Vaseline.

Absolutely ideal fire starter. Don't forget the fire dragon gell can also be used as hand sanitizer too 👍 Cheers for watching and have a great weekend mate.

Nice kit mate, the one I carry when off to the woods is a bit bigger but there are pros and cons to that. I should put together a smaller one like yours for more general use so thanks for the inspiration. I see tampons have been suggested already but I also have small cotton wool sticks that dentists use which are smaller and would fit in well in a small set up like yours. Also jute twine which can beulti use. Thanks for prompt, off to use my big kit tonight as I'm off to a bothy, have a good one mate.

What's the advantage of those zippered pouches over a quart Ziploc baggie? Just wondering. Because the Ziploc is a fraction of the price and airtight

Just robustness. Whatever works for you. Doesn't matter what bags, pouches or containers you use as long as they work. Thanks for watching and enjoy your day 👍
