EMERGENCY Thomas Cook A330-200 Emergency Landing at Manchester Airport- 15/04/17

On the morning of April 15th Thomas Cook flight MT2718 departed Manchester bound for Las Vegas. Around 20-30 minutes into the flight and just off the east coast of Ireland the Airbus A330-200 turned back and headed back to Manchester. The aircraft held for around 15-20 minutes over the Irish sea dumping fuel. As they left their hold they declared an emergency and squawked 7700.
The 17 year old aircraft then descended and approached into Manchester. Fire crews were out and waited for the arrival of the aircraft. Just after 11am the a330 touched down at Manchester, where it taxied off runway 23R and came to a stop on the taxiway. Here fire crews inspected the aircraft, shortly after the A330-200 spooled up and taxied to a remote stand. There is no confirmation as to the cause of the emergency however rumours suggest a possible fuel leak.
The aircraft is still on the ground at Manchester and a replacement flight is also rumoured to be taking place later today. All passengers were ok and the fire crews on the ground acted very well.
We apolgise for the video being low quality than our usual videos, not both members of MT Aviation were able to get to the airport in time so we had to grab our 2nd, backup camera on this occasion.

I was on this flight. First of all, we noticed a strong fume like smell as we boarded the aircraft. Then a passenger checked in luggage then never went through security and into the departure lounge , so we waited whilst the luggage was removed which seemed suspicious. The engineers were on and off a lot more than usual prior to takeoff and the cabin crew were all whispering between themselves a lot. I think they knew there may have been an issue. Not long after takeoff the pilot announced we needed to return after dumping fuel first. The sound quality was awful and it sounded like they were scuba diving. The cabin crew member told us it was because they were on oxygen masks. My fellow passenger went to the toilet near the cockpit and said the burning fume smell was very intense and she could taste it when breathing in that area. The actual landing was really intense, we were thrust forward in our seats due to how quick and hard we breaked after touchdown. We still haven't had an official answer as to what was wrong , but upon exiting the front door of the aircraft, we saw the cockpit was in a right state with packaging , papers and ripped boxes everywhere on the floor. Just so glad they had a standby plane for us. I have to commend how quickly they had us sorted again to take off on a new aircraft, but at the same time, I think it was putting 283 passengers at risk taking off the first time when it seemed that they may have already suspected a problem.

I was not on the flight, but based on the way the aircraft landed, it looks like the emergency was caused by a leak on fuel line A-786-B which is located exactly between the elevators and the nose of the plane. It's also noticeable that rows 15-17 were hit the hardest during the landing as you could see the turbulence coming from the left engine and the right engine the moment it lands. The approach at 500 ft/min smoothly changed to 100 and then 50 ft/min was a masterpiece only affected by the crosswind of 50 knots which you can see how it got the pilots by surprise. Obviously, I have no idea what I am saying but it is no different than the majority of the comments here...

It really bothers me with all these big aviation channels, they always have the few videos that get over 1mil veiws, but the dislike to like ratios are just so bad. I mean this is not any kind of clickbait at all, so really why would you dislike? I'm guessing it's just that people were expecting some kind of crash landing, but really, you don't have to dislike the vid just bc you didn't see what you expected. This is 100% quality aviation content, and I would like to thank MT for showing us this greatly rare moment. I left a like, (and I've been subbed for quite some time).

I only flew back to Manchester 2 weeks ago with Thomas Cook from Corfu. Thankfully we where still on the ground but as we went to take off from Corfu one of the three break systems broke, we all had a good jolt forward. We headed back towards the airport & thought oh great where going to be stuck here now until we get another plane but thankfully the captain managed to work his magic & reset the break system, we took off 15 minutes later & landed in Manchester safely 3 1/2 hours later. Whether your in the air or on the ground It's scary if something is wrong. It's not put me off flying with Thomas Cook next year, booked holiday to Zante

Thomas Cook is the best not only have they been the safest airline as there has been no crashes only this plane with the fuel leak and actually this same A330 G-MLGL 8 years before this had a backfire in the left engine and on a documentary about the Titanic from what I have heard back then you were able to book your tickets to get on the Titanic and you could book them with Thomas Cook

2 months ago when I went to Cyprus with Ryan air we had to have a emergency landing as one of the cabin crew passed out and wasn't breathing luckily she was okay but we had a 3 hour delay

After a little digging, I've found out today that one engine has been removed completely due to faulty seals and parts. There were also high fume levels picked up in the cabin on a reader. No wonder I felt nauseous and had bad headaches for a couple of days afterwards 😞

I belieave that the reason why it got into an emergancy landing is because if you see when it landed, it didnt stop as needed, it continude rolling and then got in a stop because the pilots turned shaply right, then the plane stoped for a little bit compleatlt, so the issue was a breaking error.

@@heartz4tea I did haha but, fun fact if we went a week earlier we would’ve been on the plane that had to stop at V1 due to an issue with the engine I think (if I remember correctly) MT2653 was the number and it was in Cuba. We saw the Antonov An-225 Mriya by the side of the A330. Entire article written about it and we spoke to people that were on the plane too!

My ryanair flight had to fly and make an emerngecy landing in Manchester because after liftoff there was loud noises land the plane was shaking so much I felt so sick we took out of Leeds Bradford northern runway towards Scotland we were flying to paro we were turning around they wanted to turn back to Leeds bradford but manchester was closer so they landed at manchester
