Hi lily, I want your opinion about an idea that I had watching the filter video. Can we use a wooden cover for the plastic bottle to make isotheric (I'm not sure if I write it right my english are not so good) bottle, to keep the water hot or cool?👍
Hi Lilly, I almost didn't watch this video because I've watched several others about the same water filter and didn't expect your's to be any different from the rest. I was so wrong! Your's is the first video that I recall to ever address the danger of using charcol from poisonous wood.that's something I don't think I ever would have thought of. Thank you very much for that important bit of information. I'm really glad I watched.
Using charcoal (activated carbon) and moss ( contains iodine) these filters will also help pull heavy metal contaminants like mercury and lead from your water, it takes patience but with a large enough filter you can make water that is on par with what comes from your tap.
Honestly I think activated carbon alone might even do a good job. Its basically the same thing that's in gas masks. You dont even have to run the water through it you can just let a stick of activated carbon sit in a pitcher of water overnight and it draws out the contaminants.
Hello Lilly, i must say u are one of the most consistent youtuber. Even during covid u educated us with ur survival Videos. Like your channel. Wish cud get a chance to be part of ur video. Regards.Good luck
👍❤ I’ve watched other videos on primitive water filtration techniques, but you make some great points I hadn’t heard, Lilly. For instance, cleaning ash from charcoal before putting the charcoal in a filter bottle. I wouldn’t have thought of that.
It looks like your filter is working good, Lilly. The reason the filtered water coming out is initially dirty is mostly from the dust/debris in the sand you used, not the dirt from the water you poured in. I used to have an aquarium for many years in which I used sand, and I had to rinse the sand over and over again, for hours, when I first set it up in order to prevent cloudy water in my tank. Of course it's a bigger problem in an aquarium because there is lots of water current stirring things up, whereas with a filter there is very little current, so that's probably why the output clears up pretty quick.
Key is to filter the water at least 3 to 5 times before you get really clean water. also, Before you pour the water in the make-shift bottle, you can sieve out the larger particles and debris with a cloth (T-shirt you're wearing) and then put it in the bottle. That quickens the water purification and doesn't clog up the bottle (this filter also has a life, you will need to replace all those ingredients after a few days of use)
Hi Lily, I am a fan of your videos. I find them very instructional and I have recommended it to others. Hope you can show more of the scenery. Stay safe.
Lily you really did a great job making that water filter as always. Watching you and all your videos that you had produced over time. I have been really learning a lot from you and I truly appreciate it. For now until your next video. I'm wishing you a very happy and healthy new year and may all of your dreams and wishes that you have for the new year come true. Take care
Well done Lilly thats a great idea for getting non dirty water 💧 and yes it still has to be boiled to be sanitised , people must never use water from a commercial crop growing area because like what you said its full of pesticides and chemical fertiliser thats another video . Lilly.
another good thing to do is keep some coffee filters with you and screw a piece of one into the cap so it holds back the sand and just lets the water through ... other wise you might have gritty water, and i dont know about you .... but i dont really like gritty water !!!!
This is a very interesting concept. I have run aquariums for over 40 years, and have made many, many filters with carbon and charcoal, and other media, so this was a lot of fun to watch. I know the charcoal has a limited life, so it's interesting that in the field, you can easily generate your own charcoal to rebuild your filter. Really great video!
Great video! I have seen where adding a paper cone coffee filter to your pack can be used in the bottom, the sand, charcoal…. And if you need tinder, you can burn a spare filter
Thanks Lilly for this very timely outdoors survival content you posted last week...i am gleaning tidbits here and there that could be useful for a post-apocalyptic adventure story where my participation is that of writer/scriptwriter, a story that has good potential of being adapted to a series for a streaming TV service such as NetFlix. BTW, the story centers on the personal growth/evolution (and perils in the journey) of a young professional woman who bugs out of a ruined capitol city, with zero bushcrafting skills, 8-9 months after a worldwide economic collapse, on her way to a rural sanctuary community deep in the country's tropical interior. It's set here in modern-day Venezuela. Regards from Caracas!
@@stephaniejarriel8938 thanks....the first hurdle to clear is to get those streaming platforms interested in purchasing a complete season after they see our pitch with a trailer promo and/or a pilot episode. The other is production in a country that is a bit hostile to the US and an ally of Russia in the current Ukraine crisis.
@@peterbehringer63 I think I know which country your referring to..south of the border so to speak. If I am correct in my assumption it's a beautiful place my sister has visited
@@stephaniejarriel8938 Yes, we are in Venezuela, IMHO, one of best places in the world currently to film a post-Apocalyptic or Zombie theme movie due to the severe deterioration of the country's infrastructure.
Thanks Peter, I hopefully you'll get your film made and I'll get to see it. C.P just added another post in addition to the EBike. Check it out if you haven't already.. & take care high five from Georgia!
This can also be done by alternating sand and charcoal layers if you don't have anything else, 3 layers of each should be good. Also keep in mind that filters of this type and what Lilly is making here are only really good for filtering water caught by rain. They will not purify water from germs and such, only clean it of dirt and debris. Still a good skill to know, Thanks for Sharing Lilly.
Lilly I really liked this video because you let subscribers know to check the surroundings from where you draw your water, down stream from a turd mill aka water treatment plant sewerage or factories ,refinery's is a often over looked consideration. take care and keep safe
Great filtering system Lilly, I personally use moss on top instead of grass. Now I use my life straws, there more reliable. But if u haven't Access to one your method along with boiling it works great.
Shove 20-30 coffee filters into your kit. You can use them as a pre-filter to strain out the big chunks. I wonder how one would work filled with charcoal?
Hello Lilly.thankyou for the great information.a few years back i saw a u tube video making a water filter such as yours.instead of the grass they used moss.stating thst the moss has a natural ioxine property that helps to clean the water.your thoughts?
Pops was a Cobra Gunship pilot in Nam back in the day. He trained just like all of his US army brothers with survival manuals. I read the book and it was interesting. My favorite one was the water still. If you are out in the boonies, you will need a cup, a long hose or straw, some saran wrap, a shovel, some grass or plants. Ya digs a hole in the shape of a reverse cone set the cup in the bottom, put a straw in it up to the top so you can drink. place grass and plants up high and set the saran wrap over the top. Hold it down with pepples and rocks, and put a small rock in the center so the saran wrap hangs low over the cup, thats where the water drips in the cup, and bam it heats up and drips condensation in the cup. Takes a while, but you get a cup of water and it makes water all day long...You want tips on hillbilly moonshine? LOL..Heh-heh..
You are so beautiful, Lilly. When I see you, I feel like a high school boy! Thank you once again. Lots of love and blessings from Ontario Canada. Wishing you the best in this new year!
This is a great water filtration system. It mimicks how water drains through all the top soil and gets down to the water table. I'm glad you told everyone to filter the water several times and then boil it. Great video per usual.
There are several videos available on RU-vid which show how to make activated charcoal at home. It does take some time, though. Bottles are very useful items for emergency situations. I have used aluminum bottles to make decorative citronella candles for cook-outs, and have also used them during power outages.
Great video Lilly!! I've made these before since most of the water here in the Texas panhandle is red and muddy or full of green algae. That kills commercial filters before they can render even one fourth of a cup.❤️
Unfortunately, with this method -Without boiling.- only less bad water can be made from very bad water. However, it is perfect for cleaning it from visible dirt. After boiling for ten minutes, the microbes can be killed. To remove chemical residues and unpleasant off-flavors, add a half teaspoon of activated carbon (/2l) resting for a few hours, sometimes shaking it, the result will be perfect. So I drank some pretty poor quality water. (River Zala, River Raab) But I think the most important thing is boiling! In a survival situation, a severe diarrhea equals death.
Thanks for all of your advice and knowledge you share with us. The water.. since our water 1st appearance. Pretty much the same amont ...water dinosaurs once drank. Been going through the same cycle .Largest filter ever.
The other great thing about this filter is that when you are not out camping, and it is not being used as a filter, it makes a lovely, decorative living room wall ornament-conversation piece !!!
Lilly want to pre congratulate on soon reaching 1.000.000 subscribers. You have done this for a looooooong time, lots of videos and hard work. Be proud :)
The advice I have is dig a pit, fire, pot of collected water for steam. Hang a sheet, filled with collected water and collect condensation, put in rock to move the collection point away from the fire into a collection bowl. Worst case scenarios you can add urine to the boiling water. the big advantge off Lilly's filter is it doesn't need to be monitored, set and forget while you are sleeping
great advice. You can hang a sheet with cold water & weight in it and collect the condensate for distilled water which has health benefits but is dimineralised so water flavour is lost along with beneficial impurities
Lilly, you're such a great teacher with an invaluable wealth of knowledge. Imho you're a solid gold superstar! Thank you and keep up the good work! Btw, your dog is adorable!
I saw ( many years ago) a method of water filtration where, I believe, they used plastic over a bowl and the condensation was the clean water. Have you heard of a method like this?
