I don't care what other people say. or may say.. They were not trying to be pretentious or be novelle Handels, they had just decided to reinterpret classical music in their own way, introducing the new technology of the age, including the moog. Personally , I find this is a hell of a nice video, : I see three young , talented, superb musicians enjoying themselves and offering the best of their ability. Keith is a cheeky devil forcing the other two to keep up with his speed but it's marvellous to see him smile, Long live Emerson Lake and Palmer. To me,( despite the 14,000 views, - that's ridiculous by the way) they are one , if not the one, of the most innovative and eclectic group of the seventies.

ELP and Zappa were the only two truly gifted popular musicians of the last 50 years..the only reason SOME of the critics had a problem with them is because they played good music and the masses want to hear three chord rock..they were great

First saw ELP in 1971 and several times since then. At the time they were considered the standard of musician ship excellence by which all other bands were measured. The group yes opened up for them. However as much as I love yes there was really no comparison.

@@metalheadgamer80 ELP were actually considered heavy metal when that first album came out. I wouldn't use the term stoner Doom Rift however I believe it did start what we would later call Progressive Metal. I like Black Sabbath but they didn't start everything. As a matter of fact talent wise compared to ELP they were a n omoiba.

Thank God the camera finally found Palmer for the climax of this rendition. I don't worship at the altar of Emerson and most ELP vids tend to fixate on what I'd term to be his antics on stage. More pleasure (for me) is Palmer once again pounding those straight eighth notes on his bass drum...then going 'big band' with his late flourishes. Greg Lake was one cool dude though. Love me some ELP!

A live version of the first cut on their first album! As a long time ELP nut , I have never seen this performance before. The second half 'The Barbarian' was borrowed from a work by Bartok. That's another reason I love ELP, they appreciate and build off of the classics and at the same time, adding their own talents into the amazing mix.

Trivia: The Moog used in this concert was borrowed from Mike Vickers (of Manfred Mann band), who was probably first Moog user and programmer in UK. Keith was fascinated with synthesizer technology when heard "Switched On Bach" in the record shop. When ELP got the funds from recording company, he acquired his own Moog.
