I've been a fan of ELP since their first album was released in 1970. I was fortunate enough to see them live in South Florida in 1971. I was 16. They have remained one of my all time favorite bands to this day. I'm 69 now and they are in my opinion the best Progressive Rock Band of all time. Three equally talented monster musicians that have left an indelible mark in the rock music world. The likes of which we'll probably never see again in this lifetime. Rest in Peace Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. God Bless you Carl Palmer. Thank you for the memories. Peace.
My forever #1 band ,I saw them in Concert @ least 15 to 17 times Montreal Olympics stadium, MSG, MAPLE Leaf Garden to name a few. Never ever a bad show show. I even saw Emerson Lake & Powell @ MSG . They were & hv always been the best Prog Band . If it wasn't ror Keith the MOOG never would hv been brought to the forefront of live music . And yet constantly Snuffed by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a bunch of total ASSHOLES .
I’m from San Antonio and I was 15 yrs old when I first saw them. I was in the first row they were on the brain salad surgery tour. It was so amazing that even to this day I can still see them. Mr. Lake was completely mesmerizing well all three of them were, but I guess because I was right in front of him. To me besides yes they were the best prog band who ever existed. Oh! Rush too. By the way the venue they played don’t even exist anymore. I’m 65 now. Thank you all.
As a young musician in the 60s, I was into Hendrix, Cream, The Who, Credence, Zeppelin, etc. It was all about the guitar. Then on a whim, I bought the Tarkus album, never having heard EL&P. My world was never the same. These 3 gentlemen opened a new world to me. True geniuses and musical Titans. What they have given the world is an immeasurable gift. God rest your souls, Keith and Greg, and God bless you, Carl. And thank you for posting this performance for us to enjoy!

@@gelubatir9794 I totally agree, I have all those albums you mention except, ironically, the Fillmore East album which I didn't realize was released. My girlfriend at the time and I had third row seats right in front of Keith's organ and 53 years later, I have vivid memories of his performance that night. I also saw ELP and I loved their music, but the Nice were special.
@@aum1083 According to Carl, he did. Whether Ringo still has them I don't know. Too heavy to move around. Collapsed a stage at 1 concert is what he said.
March 10-11 2016, a sad sad day indeed, for the world has lost THE GREATEST KEYBOARD PLAYER IN ROCK HISTORY, those of us who knew of his body of work need no history on his legacy, we know it by heart, I am lost for words to express the deep sadness I feel by his death. My profound condolences to his family, now the heavens can truly claim they have assemble the finest AND greatest rock band of all times. Rest In Peace KEITH NOEL EMERSON, the music you created will live on forever.
E.L.P WERE THE GREATEST 3 MAN BAND WHO EVER lived AND KEITH EMERSON on the KEYBOARDS Commited suicide AND GREG LAKE PLAYING THE guitar and bass guitar Died from CANCER AND CARL PARMER ON THE DRUM'S is still alive REST in PEACE Keith EMERSON AND GREG LAKE YOU WERE GREAT Musicians
Just think? These 3 guys made this MUSIC...AMAZING.....Their sound, RAW talent, their lyrics..... there will NEVER be this caliber of Groups/Performers until they GET back to the Basic's....I'am so "Thankful" that I got to be a part of growing-up in the 70's/80's and got to experience this kind of TRUE Amazing talent..What a brilliant ARTIST Keith was.....David Bowie and the List goes on & on......"Thanks ALL you Folks" Rest in Peace & Thank You.......
6:25-7:28 - that's what Keith Emerson was able to do. That's what the disorder in his hands robbed him of being able to do any more, and not being able to do that anymore drove him to take his own life. It makes me so sad to see this now, at the absolute peak of his talents, with the knowledge of what became of him. I hope you are indeed resting in peace tonight, Keith. I really do.
@@hoozerob Focal dystonia. A nasty ailment. Musicians and visual artists are prone to it. Bassist Victor Wooten has it, as well as Berkeley Breathed of the "Bloom County" comic strip.
One must accept the realities of life.......youth is wasted on the young all people die Look at Jesús christ get over the silly nonsense enjoy it while lasts for it wont
From another big KE and ELP fan since 1973, I wanted to send thoughts of support, I feel it too. Also being a big Rush fan, it makes me think of their song "Losing It" - if you haven't heard that, check it out and remember Keith.
First time seeing ELP I was 17 (I'm now 66) and that concert in Birmingham (UK) is STILL the best concert I've been to..... and I've been to a few. Saw them on this Black Moon tour too, once again in Birmingham...... priceless! God Bless Keith and Greg, forever in my thoughts and thank you for the music.
So glad to have grown up with the true masters of music. I find it amazing that just three guys could put out so much energy , meaning and just down right mind blowing music. 'Musicians' today (and I use that word in its loosest definition) couldn't hold a drum stick (or a wing or a thigh) to these guys. Time to fire it up... turn it up...and do a KFC drive up.Rest in Peace Keith and Greg, your music remains a milestone in my life .Thank You!
@@jaimesorli2436 they are one of a kind band will never see the likes of them again beyond brilliant one of the very best concerts I saw in 1977 wish I saw the brain salad surgery tour
Still LOVE ELP so much. Still listening in 2021 after the beginnings of The Nice, King Crimson, & Crazy World of Arthur Brown. After a flood devastated our little area of America, they brought the National Guard in to help, I met a man in there Jay Beck. Introduced me to ELP, with The Nice, I never knew of. Never has my musical tastes moved in such a way. Keyboards man I am. I still love blazing guitars, but give me a prominent keyboard, & there's nothing like it. Styx, Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, etc. are all my favorite bands, But none is close to ELP. that was from 1972. Next year will be my 50 years.
They were so acutely in tune with each other that they could do an entire concert just as a jam session. And such gifted musicians. And they had inside jokes going on between them that were queued musically.
51 years old I have been a PROG NUT my whole life. So in the past week I decide to listen to TARKUS for the first time. HOLY CHRIST!!...to say this Album turn my world upside down is an understatement.
I will never forget seeing ELP at the California Jam in 1974 at Ontario Motor Speedway. That did it for me. I have been an ELP fan to this day. It was REAL music. Miss you Keith & Greg.
Was at Cal Jam, and earlier at Long Beach Arena in 73, one of the venues used for WBMFTTSTNE. Fun times! I usually am never in the right place, but those two times in my life!
@@coachhannah2403 Ah. A fellow Cal-Jammer. Yes, WBMFTTSTNE is the live 3-album release that was recorded at Long Beach. So you get to hear the show over, and over again. But seeing Keith spin on the piano did it for me at Cal-Jam.
@@3rdandlong - I believe there were two other venues also used for material for the album. I was way too far back at Cal Jam to see Keith spin, and when I did see him up close in later concerts, it was obvious he wasn't playing the piano, only playing with the audience. When he manhandles the Hammond, he actually gets controlled sounds he uses in Knife Edge (including using a knife to hold key pairs down). First time hearing the Budapest concert. It was a pleasure.
Ulises Rodriguez He's definitely, one of my Favorites. If I could, I'd have Stewart Copeland play in my 'band', or Carl, or Terry Bozio, or Neil Peart, sort of, in that order, but anyone of them, would be 'fantastic', to work with. ;)
+Ulises Rodriguez I have first choice in the drafting of drummers. My choice is ... Neil Peart. No one else comes close. Second draft choice would be difficult. Carl Palmer, Stewart Copeland, John Bonham. I would go with Bonham. Lots of your top drummers pay homage to Bonham. Believe it or not Ringo Starr was a great drummer. Not because he was flashy or had a monstrous kit. He was a great drummer cause he can do something many of the big names do not do well .... keep proper time. Think about it.
+Pete Esposito he had a great backbeat, and tasty little fills. the band I am in covered "Help" check out the video..he is SMASHING the ride through out the song....what about keith moon, zack starkey?
I was there at this concert in Budapest, then I could hear ELP live for the first time. It was one of the great experiences of my life, since ELP was one of my favorites from the 70s, but they had never visited Hungary before. And this recording is also available on VHS tape. I might still be able to play it.
Much is of oppinionated value, but seeing these three masterful musicians at work seven times in concert, was a lifetime spectacle never to be forgotten. They still play a huge part in my everyday living .I love them all dearly as a musician myself, may they live on in musical infamy forever .
I saw then that year at the Arena in Verona it was the best concert ever, they were so spectacular. It was worth all the years waiting to see them live. Great memories. Thank ELP for all the joy you gave to us, thanks Keith, you'll be always my music god on earth. I bit of my heart went with you.
Patricia you can try to find me on Facebook if you wish and we can talk music. I’m a big Prog. Man. ELP , Jethro Tull i have seen over 15 times. I’m also a PFM fan. You can find me as Anthony Graziano on FB. Oklahoma, USA. Yes I’m Italian.
I was there watching this show from the first row. One of the most memorable events of my life. 2016 is a black year. First Keith, now Greg. RIP Greg Lake :(
In the 70s, when I was 13, behind the iron curtain we mainly had Radio Luxembourg with all the "classical" guitar rock bands. Then, one night, in a summer camp I overheard some elder guys' fairly illegal music exchange in the camp's studio with their casette tapes. One of them put on something very strange - all he knew that it was some Emerson or what. I was done. But despite all the investigation it took another two years to accidentaly hear it again, and to learn that it was ELP's Toccata. I still have that smuggled vynil. Completely worn out, listened to a million times, crackled, in ragged cover. In 92 to see them on stage, it was... wow... Now 59, and this video still sent shivers down my spine. Thank you for sharing it with us.
The best thing about it is that he's back down to the original tempo, which I consider a huge relief after the embarassing and unmusical pissing contests of the late seventies
Both Rush and ELP had an incredible amount of talent in just three guys. Geddy Lee's vocals are an acquired taste for me but there's no getting away from what an amazing talent he, Lifeson & Peart were together.
@@unavailable2204 Rush was phenomenal. And three great, smart, and really nice guys. But they like every other mortal rock bands were not in the same league musically as ELP. Lake was the voice of prog. Keith its greatest instrumentalist. And Palmer the greatest drummer of the genre.
@@Chuckles.. Great point. I think Pearts drum kit even mimicked Palmer's. Their music however was nothing like ELPs. Actually no rock band was like ELP. How could they. No one could cover all genre's with the virtuososity of Keith or Carl.
I so love it when Rush fans "discover" ELP. Not taking anything away from Rush. They were three immensely talented individuals, but there has never been anything like ELP.
In 1972 ELP became my favorite group and they are still one of my favorites. I had the honor of seeing them in person at the August Jam, Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC) in 1974. I've seen just about all the stars from the 70s but ELP has to be one the best Thank you for posting. Long live the spirit of Keith Emerson & Greg Lake.
It was interesting that Greg Lake said of this time the chemistry had left the band. I wish there had been more filmed concerts in their prime, it's funny that lesser bands seem to have alot of videos or documentaries
This was the group that forced me to pay attention to the drumming, it was that in your face and such an impressive part of all their songs. I just never realized how complicated the drummer could make his part. I still like to listen to Lucky Man for Carl's drumming. But, primarily for Greg's voice. Like a blanket wrapping you up in his words. And that synth...and Keith.
Pirates, you are immersed into the music. You can picture where it's going on in your mind. Listening the music with your eyes closed adds an extra layer it's more. It's a story by music.
Mybee best concert with ELP i ever seen and i am 61 years old the only negative is that Carls drum solo was to short R.I.P Keith and Greg and THANK YOU for all that you giving us i hope i meet you in heaven when its my turn
I saw ELP at the Hollywood Bowl in 1971, and at the Santa Monica Civic Ctr in 72. In 1974 I saw the Epic Legendary Progressive (ELP) rockers 5 times, incl 3 times in 1 week, San Bernadino, Anaheim and Long Beach, followed by the 4th concert in Wichita 7 weeks later, and last but not least at the CA Jam a couple of weeks later. The first band other than Cream who were dubbed a Super Group right from the start.
Hey Robert, was the San Bernardino show at the Swing Auditorium? That was the first time I saw ELP, also saw them at the Long Beach arena around then. Awesome high school times.
@@MoeJoe974👍 Yes indeed, Feb. 9, 1974 at The Swing Auditorium. What a year for ELP, as well as concert goers. 73-79 was "thee" prime era for all rock-n-roll concerts! +Carlos Espinola Rush just play different music. ELP are master musicians but they are mostly about the Emerson´s keyboard exhibitions. Some of the Emerson´s old disharmonic solos are hard to listen to.

This was their last ‘great’ tour. Already on this tour, Emerson’s tendinitis was noticeable. Not in his playing so much as in his hand motions when not playing. And Lake was still fit enough to rock out a bit; he’d not yet become the fat guy who could no longer sing. So I’m glad to have seen them twice on that tour, and glad that video of the tour is available.

Saw this tour in Chile, I think in '93. Very professional and solid performance. Palmer's drum kit was not what it was back in the 70s. I could tell he didn't do fills that he once did on particular songs. I missed them. But, this is still ELP and there will never be another.
