Next time, instead of drilling...use a tapered reamer. They are like $4 from Harbor Freight. Just put a little pressure on and turn slowly, then back it out and check if the hole is wide enough. Because it's tapered sometimes you need to ream a little from the other side as well, if the wood is thick. But I have never gotten anything less than a pro result that looked factory using the reamer. No nicks or chips.
I read the instruction manual and it said if your toggle switch doesn't have a ground wire it doesn't matter, you don't have to have one, the ground spot is just there for toggle switches that have one
big mike you can definitely hear a pickup difference if you listen carefully, but I agree that the amp makes these pickups and guitar, along with the playing, sound like shit.
You took the time to make a well thought out video, the least I can do is express my thanks. So THANKS! My project guitar has just two pots (1 vol + 1 tone). So, this video will make me step back and consider if I'm willing to drill for the necessarry electronics.
if you're like me and you never use your tone knob just take the tone knob out and replace it with a vol knob. That way you have a vol for each pickup and your tone is on high not muddied and you're good 2 go!
1 volume and 1 tone is better for active pickups. setting tone on high all the time takes away from the treble.. it is much more obvious with active pickups than passive. I have 2 pots on my schecter too, 1 volume and 1 tone. I have an EMG 81 in the bridge and sustaniac in the neck position
Wow! Too many negative movie critics here and nothing on wiring. Great job on being thorough on the wiring set up. I did not find a really good video when it came to description and detail when wiring my 81/85 EMG pre-wired pick ups. Could have helped.
Plz get rid of the bigsby, the roller bridge helps with tuning stability but we both know just how awfully bad bigsbys are at staying in tune. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has said something about this to you. And no I haven’t looked at any of the comments, I just finished watching the video and I came right down to say this. The instillation a was nice, kinda bonding but it was 5 hrs ago so I will let it slide. Ha, who the fuck am I right to say anything about anything, right.? It’s just my humble opinion and nothing else my good kind sir of the mysterious knightly night. You did a good job I’m gonna check out some other videos. Peace and love my friend.
I really enjoyed seeing this video. It answered a lot of questions I had regarding spacial needs. One thing I do wonder about is the 9 volt battery. As you pointed out, you'll need to unplug it to stop the constant drain. With a screw on back panel cover this seems like it would be troublesome.
As someone who has owned and used these for 8 years, I can confirm, all you need to do is unplug the guitar. I only change the battery once every 12 - 16 months.
Holy chit man, I almost threw up from vertigo watching your camera focus and unfocus. How about editing out the portions where your camera is re-focusing ????
I'm very excited to do this swap, and am actually using a BCRich as well. I have been having trouble with the toggle switch. It is 3 way and should work perfect, but there are no wires connected to it, and to be honest I'm not sure, and can quite tell from the video, if the wires that run to the toggle are two wires in one with one end going to the ground. Basically it looks like the green, blue and red wires have little white wires inside them going to their required positions. But it also looks like there is something else going to ground from all three wires. Is that correct?
so if you hadn't attached the tone knobs to the volumes and just wired in the vol knobs to the bus would you have a constant high on your tone? i ask because i don't use my tone knob i always leave it high
I agree with Osa. I set my tone knob on my Schecter (EMG 81 in the bridge and sustaniac in the neck) to just over half. If I set it at full with active pickups, it starts drowning out my treble. It is less obvious with passive pickups than active.
buddy you made a big mistake for the stock bc rich pick ups.they sound amazing.i change my sd jb for the bc rich stock. btw you can choose long shaft coz i thing coming with short. they sound better than regular 81?i am looking for this set nice video
Bro, your sound effects are much louder and spoken volume is too low, so every time you insert an SFX, its RIP FUCK M Y EARS, because I have to turn it up when you talk haha By the way nice job. I bought a cheap ESP MX250 Man to Wolf replica, just so I can buy HET SET and Earnie Ball 11-50, but since Ive never changed pickups before, I might have to take it somewhere or ask a friend. Do you absolutely have to do soldiering? I basically want to use only two volumes and no tone.
You DON’T NEED A DRILL or a soldering iron, just cut out all the old crap!!! If it has 3 pots, you leave it with 3 pots, why would you drill a hole?!?!?!
Nope, only use what you need. I’m upgrading a Jackson too and might skip the tone pot altogether. Saves space in the small cavity and leaves options to add a kill switch, boost switch, etc later on 🤘
hey, i was wondering how to install emg 81/60 pickups since both come with a hub each. So do i have to install 2 batteries since both hubs have a connector to a battery?
+loligsein Pretty sure you need just one Battery. Did you buy the 81/60s as a set or were they individual? I can't imagine you'd need to connect two hubs or even two batteries for a standard HH config.
Yeah, only 1 unless your guitar has something special like mine. I have a Schecter with an EMG 81 in the bridge and a sustaniac pickup in the neck. It requires 2 nine volt batteries. The install instructions for the pickups should tell you
There is a huge difference in sound between the pickup sets. The guy just plays like crap and talks over the comparison with low volume on the amp like a tool.
