I haven't got the right word to describe Rob's tone with Metallica. It's punchy and growly but not muddy. I love it personally. Suits my taste very well. Wish I had a J bass to slap a set of these into. Maybe a cheapo DIY kit lol
With the advent of CNC machines levelling the playing field, you can get a nice skeleton Jazz bass from say, Harley Benton, strip it and drop a set of these in there.
The sound here and definitely the variety of colors is really good. Very odd though, I don't here Rob or any other type of EMG "active" sound. These sound passive to me, almost like Duff McKagan's live sound.
Fantastic video! I've just bought one for my warwick cv bass, and I'm so looking forward to install these pickups on my gear. Your video's information really helped me. Thanks for the video my friend!!
Great video! I followed your instructions and install them painlessly.I find mine a little quiet, very low volume. I was expecting a boost in output volume. Nice tone though.
How is the battery life of these pickups? Normal J set saus 3000 hours while this set says 1000. Its probably the darn steel cover. Theres a rewson axtive pickups have plastic covers. I can even hear the difference with a metal humbucker pickup. Its subtle but there. I want the chrome and active EMGs on my Aerodyne Jazz bass but not the low battery life or any sound compromise.
Do you plan to review the new Claypool Pickups for P bass by EMG? I have seen them in the EMG promotional video together with these RipTide and I got interested in them.
Question for you Did you use the stock foam, or something else? I’m having a hell of a time with getting the height correct between my pickups and strings.
I don't remember to be honest, stock probably. Though since every pickup is always a bit different it's best to use a new piece of foam cut for the purpose
Question; I have EMG's with the pole pieces exposed on my jazz bass (battery is under control plate) and it is wired MASTER VOL, BLEND, BASS, TREBLE. I noticed that these Rip Tide pickups come with 3 knobs VOLUME, VOLUME, TONE. I take it I'd have to buy the Rip Tide pups but then also buy their BTS preamp which comes with the 4 knobs w/ the same functions that I currently have, is that correct?
Hi sir, u mentioned that U used a different battery terminal but u forgot to explain how or where u got the other battery terminal from and what did u do with connectors that were on the original(EMG) battery terminal. Did u cut them off and reconnect onto new battery terminal. Or does emg supply that other battery terminal?
No problems, it is a very tight fit but I managed to get them in. Mine is a MIJ Geddy Lee as well, not sure about the year. The only real issue I had was the battery connector, as I mentioned in the video
Noob question, I’m new to bass. I have a pj bass and I want to swap out the jazz pickup with one of these but they only come in sets. Will using one of them work or no? I apologize if this question is insanely stupid. 😅
No worries, questions are meant to be asked! You can in theory use just one of them on a PJ bass, but of course you'll need to use the 9v battery just for that pickup, plus some mods to connect the solderless electronics to the split pickup
@@Kneithrabandofficial I remember seeing quite a few schematics on the EMG website, have a look, there was definitely a way to have two volumes and two tones
