Official music video of Gollum's Song, the end credits song from The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, sung by Emiliana Torrini. Lyrics by Fran Walsh, music by Howard Shore.
Lyrics:
Where once was light
Now darkness falls
Where once was love
Love is no more
Don't say goodbye
Don't say I didn't try
These tears we cry
Are falling rain
For all the lies you told us
The hurt, the blame...
And we will weep to be so alone
We are lost
We can never go home
So in the end
I'll be what I will be
No loyal friend
Was ever there for me
Now we say goodbye
We say you didn't try
These tears you cry
Have come too late
Take back the lies
The hurt, the blame...
And you will weep
When you face the end alone
You are lost
You can never go home
You are lost
You can never go home

It is. But if you listen carefully, if you really understand Gollum, this is a song telling his life and how there can be no more hope for him. It's mourning too, because it didn't have to be that way and it doesn't have to be that way for anyone else. I realized that the other night maybe for the first time after I saw the Two Towers again. It's what sin can do to you- when you love something or someone more than God, more than what He says is true, good and right. It leads to death. Maybe not the eternal death, but it can lead to that too. I'm speaking truth, not religiosity or my own "opinion." There's so much more going on in this song. It's a warning. It's a finality. It should even move people to look to Christ as their only hope.

Definitely my favorite closing song of the trilogy. As the camera pulls back and up over the mountains to show the horrific landscape of Mordor that Frodo and Sam will be facing in the final film. I agree with Ealhad, in films evil is often by a strong margin visually obvious, but in real life people who look on the surface nice even cute and charming can be quite wicked and evil. Take women f.ex some of them are extremely cute and charming yet very manipulative and deceptive and takes pleasure in hurting you.

when i was a teenager and I was working at the movie theater as an usher... I remember listening to this song during the credits of the movie when I was sweeping up the popcorn and trash. It has stuck with me as one of the more pretty and melancholy songs I ever heard. This song is from the second movie in the Lord of The Rings trilogy, "The Two Towers". The movie was released in 2002. More than 10 years ago. The Tolkien book was published in 1954, almost 60 years ago.

The transition from the tragic sadness in the first chorus to the profound resentment in the second is absolutely perfect. Smeagol has been destroyed beyond repair, and he will see your turn come with vengeful glee. It's the perfect depiction of an individual who has lost so much that they resent the nature of existence itself, and you will pay the full price for playing your part in this existence.

Typo O negative, one of the founding fathers of the goth movement, holds some facets, but is still off target in many ways. maybe there are simply no adequate tools for finding such music, and it really IS out there. the people who design music services and search tools are all dismissive and willfully ignorant of the grieving of others. so they and the tools & services they create, in their blind, foolish overoptimism, are of no use, for this, or for us.

Evil is self defeating; that’s what Gollum’s character ultimately represents... he shows that we all are innocents prone to corruption, we all can fall from grace, we’re all human, and not all of us can experience a happily ever after. We’re all lost in some way, it’s just that for some they are so lost and so far gone they have no longer any way to “go home” and redeem themselves. But also just because someone is lost and they have our sympathy does not mean they are right too, they’ve lost a fight which so many somehow find the strength to keep fighting. In the end, those that lose the fight submit to what they need to submit to, and ultimately no good person or force on earth can stop it. Evil (the ring) is not destroyed because good people destroy it, it’s destroyed because those it corrupts - those who turn evil can ultimately not help themselves, and in the end, evil ultimately defeats itself...

@darkewolfe1
@darkewolfe1 6 лет назад
They were cousins. The ring called to, and changed, Sméagol. It was the pull of the ring that made Sméagol fight for, and then kill for, the ring. He was loved by Deagol, but, Deagol was just as violent so as to keep the ring. Sméagol was actually a nice fellow who loved Deagol, and came from a good people; the river folk that preceded the Hobbits. (The Silmarillion). His family cast him out when they found Sméagol had killed Deagol. That’s when he fled to the mountains and then, as he aged and the sun burned him, he went under the mountain and came out only at night and appreciated the cool moon light that still gave him enough to see by. The Sméagol personality fighting the Gollum personality was the opening of the third movie, but, Sméagol trusted Gollum to help him survive, even though it wasn’t pleasant for Sméagol. When Frodo was kind and cared for Sméagol, he had more Sméagol showing, but, when he felt betrayed by Frodo when Faramir grabbed and tied him up, Sméagol gave in to Gollum, and everyone’s fates were sealed.

I was a huge Emiliana Torrini fan since 1999’s release of _Love in the Time of Science_ and was amazed that she was chosen to sing this haunting song. She wasn’t so well known and it was just magnificent hearing her soft and enigmatic voice in the darkened theatre. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. Björk, her fellow Icelander, might have also done a smashing job but I am so glad it was Emiliana! A perfect match.

This really enhances the ending to Two Towers beyond what it already was; not only ending it on a haunting note, but also contextualizing Gollum’s suffering and his isolation from his family and friends, lost to history on the long-lasting path he chose, which is honestly a really sad thought. It also brings out the hopelessness and perseverance in Frodo and Sam’s journey, emphasizing that they may “never go home” again and could die there in Mordor. Oh my god it’s so good!

This song is so gut-wrenching, and real. R.I.P. It reminds me of an article I read once, that was pointing out that not a single character in Middle Earth's history has ever been truly redeemed or escaped their harsh karma. Hurin's curse does kill everybody, Boromir dies, Gollum succumbs to the ring and dies, Frodo will have 'episodes' the rest of his life and can't be in Middle Earth, and there are a lot more in The Silmarillion and stuff. Or, they were 'redeemed', but were still punished.

Sometimes this numbers mean nothing. If you have 200 unofficial sources uploading the video you split the views 200 times. If you have an official source uploading and concentrating the views you have much more. But yes I See Fire is also much more all audiences pop-folck song and it will have more views. The fist time I heard the song I supposed the singer was Björk, and the only relation is that both are from Iceland. I suppose Björk has been a strong influence, and they bot work for One Little Indian Records.

technically "res20stupid" is correct...ROTK won ALL its nominations...putting it on par with Titanic. Unfortuneately, the "Academy" ONLY after seeing how MONUMENTALLY SUCCESSFUL the previous 2 movies were...they had to concede and give the awards for the finale...otherwise they knew that there would be public outrage and possible boycotting future shows etc. LOTRs Trilogy is the GREATEST cinematic achievement of ALL time.

I always felt bad for Smeegle/Gollum. He lost everything and can never get it back or ever know it again. All because an evil ring spoke to him, told him to kill his brother and become a pitiful lonely creature. Always scared of himself for his other half wanting to do bad things.

I always saw Gollum's situation as a metaphor for addiction (although it most probably was not intended to be so by Tolkien), since, frankly, his relationship with the Ring is a kind of addiction. He always wants it, and goes to great lengths to get it, going to the point of doing unspeakable things, and destroying the lives of others, but mainly his own life. And when he does get it, it hurts him and drives him deeper into misery, desperation and self-destruction. He even goes through a "rehab" period when he's with Frodo, but he eventually relapses.

I have a friend who is depressed. I am one of the few she has told about it, but I am trying hard to help her. This song helps me understand her. "No loyal friend was ever there for me." I am trying to let her know that I am her loyal friend, and I will always be there for her. Tolkien's work is what keeps me out of depression, but I must help others, too. To everyone who is depressed: A loyal friend is always there for you, if you look hard enough. I know it's not as easy as that, but please, try to have faith, however difficult it may be. From a Tolkienite who only wants to help.
