I just saw this for the first time today, after watching the other guest from 8 years ago, the musical prodigy of 8 years old that has the purple skipping rope she waves around as she daydreams, and melodies flood into her head!

You MUST check out the Emily Bear, 13, performance (in 2014) of Gershwin's Rapsody in Blue with full professional symphony orchestra. Be aware that this is an extremely difficult work to play (and from memory) AND even more extraordinary, it has several totally exposed piano only sections, everything played up to world class tempos, but more astounding is her exquisite maturity musically. I'm 71 and have played the famous Gershwin clarinet solo with the iconic glissando several times, so I'm very familiar with the work plus have heard many commercial CD's and professional concerts. This is by far and away the most compelling thoughtful and artistic performance I've ever heard. It literally was perfect! It was interesting to watch the orchestra member's faces as she played. Full respect and amazement! Please watch, you won't be disappointed (she's ONLY 13 when this was performed). Thanks
This is insane !!! Ellen is asking a list of simple questions to little Emily, with a kind of delicate and easy approach as if Emily is a typical, fragile, immature, average, clueless kid....and little Emily is answering these questions with all the grace, style, poise and maturity of a young adult !! Ellen, just like most of us, forgets that some kids are very advanced for their age. Most of the famous teen musicians have been playing their instrument or singing for over ten years. With that experience, the skills of concentration, artistic intellect, performance, confidence, and maturity are also well developed, because playing music takes a lot of discipline, focus and commitment. She may look like a six year old, but in fact she is far older in so many ways.
Amazing!! Just 6 years old and already bringing people such joy! I wish her nothing but the best in her life. She is so sweet and adorable. KUDOS to her teacher for bring her this far. :-)
that song she wrote for ellen was so beautiful. wow. being a creative soul myself I totally get it when she tells ellen it "just came out" when asked how she came up with the song. that's how it happens. just pops into your head. what a little sweetheart and I hope she and her family are doing well.
She's a natural genius. And she even pronounced, "Bach" correctly, as well as the other composers' names. "it just came out.". That's probably exactly what Mozart said.
This very young Prodigy is a delight to behold! Judging from his remarks & his mom's statements, he is going to be one happy person, doing something well of his choice, when he comes of age.
she plays alright , you can tell her fingers and hands are still too small for full sizes keys but ... YEEWAZA BOOM ! the kids a genius at writing ! that tune she did for Ellen totally rocks , absolutely great
So many child prodigies get burned out. Their talent is their torture and they can't seem to live a normal or happy life. They feel abnormal. This young lady seems to have avoided all of that. Enjoying her life and her talent. Enjoying creating. That has to go to her parents. The smile she had at 6 is still there at 18. The joy she has at playing the piano for an audience is still there.
These talents are the difference between humans and animals. God has blessed her with this amazing talent and she has the drive and discipline to use it...

Beautiful! The piano is my favorite instrument. I can see how it can easily appeal to young ears for music. It did to me. I wish I could play like her though😱

When I was 6.. I sat in my living room talking to imaginary friends (was an only child for 8 years) and I had crayons and a colouring book and sat there for a few hours
Ahhh... what a sweet little girl. She has always been a poppet, with amazing musical talents. Now she is a grown up poppet, with even more developed musical talents.
Looks like a spiritual urge to me. We all are in different stages. Some become Sages, some become Einstein, and some live very simple lives but are very spiritual as well.
for those people who think her playing is rather mediocre: at this time, she was only six and has only been learning for a year and three months, so she has been learning really quickly.
I am eleven and i do compose. My pieces are super complicated, and i am teased by my mates. I'd also wish that i were you, having people to appreciate you.

Gaming with Meat Sauce :D There's nothing wrong with loving your hobbies unless your hobbies just so happen to include mass murdering. If you like composting music, go compose music. When you get to secondary school if you're English (and I think in America) you take music lessons and part of that curriculum is writing and playing simple melodies with chords, you two will nail it. I can only compose basic melodies and I'm 13. You'll be years ahead of your classmates.
this is part of another life, she plays like a person who has played for many years, the positioning of hands and feet totally aligned as it has been 40, 50 years, impressive. Past lives in this life.
