Yes! The Emily from "Emily in Paris" is pathetic, and don't deserve to be there. If she managed to actually learn French by season two now, I might hate her less.
I always liked her! I never blamed her for how she was cold to Andy, either. If I worked that hard and that passionately for a job, and then some random person came in and acted like Andy...I'd be cold, too!
@@madisonwatai1621 Miranda demoted Emily from the fashion week in Paris job because she was testing Andy with a choice: go to Paris or not go and Miranda would assume Andy wasn't serious about her future at the magazine or any other publication. Miranda saw a lot of herself in Andy and wanted to see what she would do in regards of making the choice to either climb the ladder or staying true to her values by not sabotaging Emily, who was already excited about going because she was already in line to go before Andy was hired. And Andy didn't disappoint, in spite of the difficult decision.
I sympathize with this character Emily. She represents all those employees who slave themselves to corporations, only to be disposed off at the end like a used paper towel.
No god but Allah Islam way for peace and the real monotheism Search for the truth and right way with honest heart And ask him for the right way for his mercy
Emily is the most realistic character in the movie. She really deserved to go to Paris, She was hardworking, so dedicated at work, and a brilliant person who sure deserved a big future with big dreams. I didn't think it was fair when Miranda chose Andy, not Emily. She so wanted to be in the fashion world, I believe Emily was so strict with Andy because she knew how difficult this life was...
As sad as it is that Emily was sabotaged in the film, it actually happens in reality. People are faced with the choice of either stab their coworker(s) in the back for a job opportunity they are more qualified for in the first place before they came along or stick to their values by not slitting their throat, so to speak. Some do it on purpose, others are given the decision by a supervisor where they have to choose for themselves. But it really does happen in the workplace environment. 💔
@@BearAndBunny0605 Yes, this movie shows a lot about this world, fashion world And as this happens in any kind of work, it's really very sad, it just broke my heart to see Emily get dumped.
@@theCatsitter878 I don't think it's right to compare them, the two are dedicated, Smart and responsible, they both deserved opportunities, not just Andy. Being hard work might not be "enough" but that doesn't mean Emily didn't deserve it, SHE DESERVED IT!!!
@@ohsweetiewhy6353 I don't agree with any rivalry, especially work rivalry, each person has their qualities and this should not be compared with other qualities of anyone else. This rivalry disgusts me, this is ridiculous! If you agree, that's fine, but I think it's sad.
How Emily Blunt has not, to this day, been nominated for any Oscars is beyond me. She should have at least been nominated for this movie and "Sicario".
right?!?! At the end of the phone call, she even smiles in reflection, before telling the new assistant in her usual condescending tone: "You have some very large shoes to fill. I hope you know that."
I love the "I'm hearing this, and I want to hear *this*..." With the hand gestures. Apparently Emily was inspired by a mother in a supermarket saying and gesturing the same to her child.
The more often I watch the scenes with Emily Blunt, the more I am convinced, she is an acting genius:she plays her role(s) so great, every facial/body expression fits to the Charakters she plays!
She actually tried to help Andrea. She took that ugly briefcase away, told her what not to say or do with Miranda the entire movie. But then got jealous when she got her makeover and started doing good at work.
Not jealous.. defensive to losing her first position.. like how she got it. The last one she replaced. So the job isn't secure.. warning for Emily should've looked for another job lol.
She had all reason to be. I mean really? She worked hard for years, nobody gifted her anything, she paid for all the designerstuff herself. Andy? Got everything thrown after without having deserved it. Actually I thought she showed some really good character to not be a lot more angry!
Yeah she had every right to be jealous. Emily was in it for her love for the industry and Andy used it as a stepping stone. Andy shit on her job and did things "because they had to be done". Emily was there for the love of it. I have been in Emily's position and I tell you it is crushing to see someone who talked smack about your industry do good in it and still think it's below them and not give it the esteem it deserves. Andy was doing business for herself and was just acting innocent.
I definitely didn’t like Emily at first, but as time went on and watching Devil Wears Prada many more times I start to realize, Emily deserve better than Andy. Emily took the job much more seriously! Now when I do rewatch this movie over and over I’m gonna appreciate Emily a lot more!
Better than Andy? Meh, better in general? Absolutley. I don't think we need to pit women or female characters against each other, instead just hope better for all of them, and Nigel!
There was an interview with Emily Blunt where she said she came up with this herself after seeing a mother doing that to a child on a subway station or somewhere.
I remember the first time I watched this movie FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and all I could think was I had no damn clue who the actress was who played Emily, but whoever she was stole 👏🏽 the 👏🏽 damn 👏🏽 show 👏🏽. She was such a breath of bitter, biting fresh air. 😄 Little did we know then how huge Ms. Blunt’s career would be. She’s pure talent.
I love how we reevaluated her character lately, from the comic relief of the mean girl to a great worker who's done everything possible to achieve her dream to work with her idol. She had to live abroad, probably having no relatives in New York and not enough free time to make friends outside of colleagues like Serena who have their own life (hence the cold answer when Andy asks her about her plans for the weekend) and you can see she never sabotaged anyone during her career from the way she takes the announcement of Andy going to Paris instead of her, she considers it to be a betrayal from her colleague.
she's a good worker but she doesn't understand the concept of work smarter not harder. All those hours and she's never impressed Miranda. This is a creative industry and she's just a drone. Perhaps if she'd been like Andy and told Miranda 'no' a few times, then Miranda might have thought "hey, this is a girl who knows her worth." Or if she'd told Miranda of her own career objectives or personal interests then Miranda might think "this girl has many dimensions to her". Perhaps if she could show Miranda she could get people to do things without bullying people thn Miranda might see she has the people skills to go further. Emily may put in more hours but Andrea is more talented and in life, talent counts. Really Emily should be in another job.
I agree with this and for the other comment I also agree too. I had been both an Emily and an Andy and everything you guys said are valid. I just dislike Andy more than I did Emily and Miranda because she entered this field with a patronizing attitude and when she began doing better that's only when it mattered
Emily Blunt is killing it with the auburn hair and matching eyebrows and all the different colorful looks. I thought she was genuinely a model who was hired as an actress for this role!!
Emily’s little smirk at the end scene when Andy offers to give her the Paris clothes reminds me of Miranda’s genuinely happy little smile she does at the end when thinking about Andy
It must’ve been really awkward between Miranda and Emily when Miranda came back from Paris without Andrea and Emily was still there by her side knowing how much Emily wanted to go to Paris, but she took Andrea instead!
Miranda screwed over her long time associate and friend Nigel , I doubt she feels guilty about her assistant Emily, it probably took her years to ever say her name right lol
@@mayaamis Yeah, and that's how in the long-term, Miranda will lose Emily. Sure, there are some grey choices and she might have the loyalty of some designers and models that she turned into the icons they are now, but the cogs like Nigel and Emily are also important. Miranda might coast by on working in an oversaturated market, but eventually even Emily might one day decide her paltry pay and "getting to work with her idol" is just not worth it.
Personal assistants in my area, especially for CEOs and big wigs, have a starting salary of $75k. The work is hard and you never get days off, but the benefits are usually insane. I had a friend who’s a PA, she made 6 figures, she’s phenomenal at her job, she had connections out the wazoo, and her boss gave her a brand new luxury car every few years so she could run errands for him and the company. She loved her job, but she’d be the first to admit it’s insanely stressful
@@doublea8462 lol ikr, the whole vibe changed. Serena was pretty, and fashionable, but also someone you can bump into at a local starbucks and unlike the high-profile model Gisele is.
Emily was mean but she was VERY thorough. She gave Andy everything she needed to succeed at her job. She never lied, never left anything out. Yes it was slightly because Andy doing bad would impact her relationship with Miranda. She came to respect Andy and even after she didn’t go to Paris, realised how good of a worker and a person Andy was to her.
From 1:21 when Andrea gets the speech, I thought it was cute how she looked at Emily, and Emily just shook her head. It was like two sisters reacting when one got into trouble with mom for doing dumb shit. LOL!
Being able to be memorable in a movie with heavyweights like Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway and in one of her first roles in a movie it's just amazing!! 😍😍❤️❤️❤️
I love her character. And I love that cinema youtube reevaluated her character lately, she was portrayed as a funny antagonist that is supposed to be all down-to-earth Andy is not. But lately she has been acknowledged as hard-working and passionate, she left her country and relatives to work with her idol and she knows that she is lucky to be here and works hard to be worthy of it. When Andy arrives she sees someone who is just here by luck and doesn't care about the industry but anyway she never tries to sabotage her. At first watch she can also be seen as judgmental (when she criticizes Andy's outfits) but in fact she's not at all, she just knows fashion and Andy does have a horrid style (or no style "no, no, it was not a question") for someone working in a fashion magazine. PS : Nate is the real villain.
Emily Blunt played this character so well. There are little touches she did (the chuckle at the hideous skirt convention remark, the clipboard hiding her smile) that made the character so real. Props!!
She is such an important and relevant character for the whole plot of the movie, was really helpful for Andy’s development in her new job as Miranda’s assistant.
Isn't it amazing how many of us hated her character when this movie came out 15 years ago, & now we have all grown up realize that Emily is not bad? In fact, she is not bad at all. She's hardworking, straight-forward, passionate and have a high degree of perseverence.
@@TheStepmonkey Not quite. There was a great 2011 movie called "The Muppets". Emily Blunt made a cameo in a scene where she was working literally the same job, an assistant for fashion magazine's editor, but instead of Miranda it was Miss Piggy. It was a parody reference to this film.
Shes absolutely class in this film. I could not have had less interest in watching a film about fashion (or at least thats what I assumed it was about from the trailer) but then saw the cast included Meryl and so I had to watch it. What an absolute treat it was. Great film.
