Word is that the DOSS album is to be listened to BACKWARDS. It make waaaaaaaaayyyy more sense. Very Eminem to have the album order actually be backwards for the BIRTH OF SLIM SHADY. Nolifeshaq broke it down.

Eminem can rap and the beats are better…..he simply does not age well as a rapper I can listen to today. He has zero for me but that’s just me. I’ll never forget his 99-2001 run which for me he was snapping crazy on everything.

when someone is too old to rap. think back in the 80's when rap was essentially brand new. we didn't have any old rap heads to say " oh they're too old to reap" because everyone was young and starting out. Even in the 90's we didn't hear about someone being too old to rap because everyone from the 80's were still young and in their prime. Take it to the 2000's, you still didn't hear about someone being too old to rap. it was brought up here and there in small discussions, but rap was still evolving. It was 2010 and beyond when we started hearing more people talk about how some artists may be too "old" to rap. this "too old to rap" is sort of a brand new thing to us. i hear about it more now than ever. i think it's a terrible argument that doesn't justify good music

In terms of being hit over the head about cancel culture on the Eminem album, I think most rappers' albums have redundant topics if you think about it. Like if you break down most albums half the album is just rapping about the lifestyle they enjoy, whether its getting money, spending money, having sex, being alpha etc. We just have a built in tolerance for certain topics being spammed over and over because its mood music and you don't have to use your brain for most of it. Em's album has songs that are very focused on particular topics, which isn't that different from what other artists do.
@Dezzyyx
@Dezzyyx Месяц назад
I keep saying that, like if you don't want to hear that type of shit eminem ain't for you, dont put those expectations on him, Em is gonna keep being Em, so that's what you're getting. Isn't no super mature conscious shit never was. Not to say it doesn't have that. He's still gonna be loyal to his craft and style, and people are surprised lol "he hasnt evolved". Nah he's authentic. We need more of that. Respect for keeping it real for so long as he has.

So I just spent the last week catching up on this podcast/show's episodes, and I must say the mesh of personalities is wild. I didn't think it would work with the old head from the east coast, the boy from Toronto, and DJ from SoCal. But you all not only seem to be genuine and comfortable with who you are but also respect each other enough to call BS when you hear it. That's dope and makes a great show because it just sounds like some friends having conversations about a subject matter they love without filters, just off the top. I do have some questions that will definitely get me some hate. Every time I hear you talk about Drake being one of the GOATs of Hip Hop because of his numbers and all the hits, isn't that just a qualification for being a good Pop artist? I won't pretend I don't dislike Drake. In fact the last song of his that I ever found catchy was Best I Ever Had which I know is crazy, but he was just kind of corny to me afterwards. I may just be mad because I blame him for making me miss out on great Big Sean records for so many years. That's on me though. I know I have work to do. I would still maintain that Drake is a Pop artist and not Hip Hop. This leads to my next question, how are you all defining Rap and Hip Hop? I have always thought of Hip Hop as the culture and Rap being of that culture. Two defining traits of Hip Hop culture to me are that it is both Black and American, so by extension Rap is as well. Tangentially, Rap/Hip Hop music to me is all about the beats and flows, the collaboration of DJ and MC, with lyrics that paint some sort of picture. It's the art of storytelling musically if you will. I bring this up because Eliott Wilson taking Donald Glover/Childish Gambino's Hip Hop card because he is "cosplaying" is crazy to me especially when Drake is not from the culture at all. Drake just makes music of it. Also he's rockin' loud but ain't sayin' nothin'. I swear this post wasn't meant to be full of Drake hate. DJ Hed spoke on artists from the West Coast that he'd have had in the Pop Out concert that were not from CA. Would it be possible to get some names dropped for those artists from Washington, Oregon, Nevada or wherever? I also think it would be really fascinating to listen to track 5 on ATCQ's Midnight Marauders or track 15 Mos Def/Yasiin Bey's Black on Both Sides as Jeremy Hecht. It must just be a bunch of dead air. hahaha, In all seriousness though, I think there is good intentions. But it just seems a little much to say I don't even think the word. It's in the same vein as "I don't see color." So I've been long winded enough. Keep up the good work. I look forward to watching Saturday mornings with a big bowl of Cap 'n Crunch.

54:47 I swear cuz it don't make sense! And I get it's his top 5 and music/art is subjective so I can't fault him for loving Drake, but how you gonna say Kendrick needs another classic to take your number 2 spot over Drake, yet in the very next breath acknowledge that he has more classics than Drake, and still rate Drake over K. Dot. His criteria makes no sense.

Bruh DJ Hed by this time next year maybe too big for this show....and low-key Jeremy might be too....those two are exceptional media personalities. And Rapsody applying pressure on Hed is hilarious....when she grabbed his hands, I was like...Oh Shit 👀

I 100% agree with Jeremy’s take on the Em album and comparing it to Dave Chappelle. Just makes them both feel stubborn and stuck at a wall when they could just address it, ideally show growth and introspection, and be done w the topic. We don’t need 10 songs about it in a row, edit! 💀

If you gonna add mixtapes for drake and big Sean you might as well include the warm up and the Truly Yours series in the mix also

Saying Childish Gambino was crazy after he dropped a dope album. He's more than Hip-Hop. He's a combination of all black music (Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk & R&B). Don't compare to pop Drake😅

Big Sean knew what he was doing with those bars man , come on! We are fresh off this massive beef, he’s got past issues with Kendrick. Big Sean is not stupid. He knew how that whole thing was going to be perceived man. For him to act “surprised” is crazy.

As time goes I start to question Elliott hip hop IQ. This dude said Big Sean has 2 classics and Drake has 3 classics. He’s handing out classics to these rappers like they do candies to kids on Halloween. Big Sean has no decent album. Drake has maybe one classic which is a weekend album. Cole has no classic. Dot has at least 3 classics
@user-vy8zg4de7f
@user-vy8zg4de7f Месяц назад
I don’t think Drake has a Genre classic. Take Care was only loved by Drake fans. You can acknowledge a classic album without necessarily being a fan of the artist or album. If Take Care is a classic, by that metric, Silverside Up by Nickelback because it sold a lot.
