The way I always interpreted the second part of the chorus was this: "Hi, my name is, I forgot my name!" is a reference to the song "My name is" where he says "Hi! My name is, My name is, My name is Slim Shady". So when when he says "Hi my name is..., I forgot my name! My name (Shady) was not to be what I became with this level of fame, my soul is possessed by this devil, my new name is Rain Man". And in the third verse he says "This is the only thing that I'm good at", which is similar to how Rain Man was only good at counting numbers.
Why skip the skits though? Em's skit especially...it has "bars" in it, too! Just bunch them with the song that follows. The "number" thing at the end was a pun on how rappers say the year at the end of songs ;-)
His whole Christopher Reeves/superman beef was cuz superman was a childhood hero to EM. Then the irony that superman was paralysed. He was let down from his childhood hero. And he wasn’t able to be a hero anymore and fight crime no more. So he’s mad at the whole situation.
I think this is exactly what you thought it was, he is practically saying he's a savant in making fun of people and overstepping what's considered good taste in an incredibly genius (rapping) way. By the way as others pointed out already, short before this album got released some of the songs like "We As Americans" that were meant to be on the album leaked on the internet, so he had to make quick replacements which he ended up more or less freestyling, which explains the "lesser" quality of these, especially the next song is not very good. BUT this being said I think Rain Man is super entertaining, and your reaction was super fun to watch 🤣.
Love the end of this song when he says "I ain't even gotta make no goddamn sense, I just did a whole song and I didn't say shit" literally says to everyone I'm that good I can make a whole song about nothing just saying random bullshit and it will still sound good and you'll still enjoy it and it's also so true who else can do that 🙈😂😂
Yeah encore to me is kind of like a comedy album, though I still really enjoy it. And in his recovery album he talks about how encore didn't count cause he was on drugs when writing it, can't remember which song tho. So yeah some songs are weird and funny, not to be taken too seriously
And one of the album's more serious songs, "Like Toy Soldiers" is amazing, and arguably the best song on the album, as well as one of the best songs he ever made IMO.
At the time that sounded to me like he was promoting his Recovery album by dissing what he put out between The Eminem Show and Recovery. You know, MMLP and TES had set the bar too high for even him to repeat. Maybe promote is the wrong word, but he was trying to change his image because he wasn't content with the turn his career had taken after his global success, and after all that happened in his life that self-admittedly diminish his confidence. He even tried to go back to his MMLP image after that. But he was being unfair to Encore and Relapse. Encore still had many good songs, not perfect from start to finish like his previous ones, perhaps a bit too long of an album for that, but it was still good. Relapse is more of a concept/experimental album, not for everyone but different. Personally, Recovery and his subsequent albums took much longer to grow on me. Maybe that's why it sounded like a promotion move to me at the time. But looking back that's probably how he really felt back then.
My Name Is is the song that made him famous. He was also heavily on drugs during the making of this album so he could have forgot the words to the song lol
Love Encore. It’s an underrated song from Eminem’s catalog. Can you guys react to KAAN- Pinto? It just dropped not to long ago, and I just got done listening to it. You guys should react to it!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This album is so out there because Em was in a bad place mentally. If I am not mistaken this is the time his drug use hit its peak. The era he went into rehab. Right before he went into hiatus.
Do you know why Em goes for Christer Reeves all the time? Because it rhymes… that’s it. He had no personal problem with him… it’s just funny, if you have a sense of humour. 😂
i know im late to the reaction, first i've seen on this song if i'm honest, but after all the years listening to this man, i still piss myself laughing at - "let's ask dr dre. dr dre, i got a question if i may. is it gay, to play, put put golf with a friend, and watch his butt butt when he tee's off" ⚰⚰😂😂
Are you guys high or just unable to remember what's been said 5 seconds earlier? It seems like you don't even care about the song you're reacting to. Kinda dull reaction
