This is just an example of why he is the best rapper ever, no other person can keep a rhyme scheme that long, while incorporating that much wordplay, punchlines, while still telling a story at the same time, not to mention many switches in flow, pure fire
my fav is " I'm Russian like a Ukrainian LaDanian Tomlinson." LT was one of the best running backs of all time. hence "Rushing" and Ukraine used to be apart of the USSR.
Bradley Banford I feel what you're saying sometimes I question if Jesus Christ were to battle Eminem Who would win forgive me God Eminem truly is a rap god if God was a rapper it would be Eminem
@Dan, the one and only But Em has done it time and time again also Legecy and ton of other songs hes done it soooooooooooo many times i can't keep track (no pun intended)
@@panpsyren6406 Not yet, but in 8 months I have gotten better. I don't stop and I wont stop till I'm near the top, since em is the king I'd just be a right hand deciple Also you don't have to listen
Sadly, for all the haters of Eminem. It will take him leaving the game or dying to understand just how excellent he is as an artist. I'm grateful I was able to grow up during the Eminem era. He's special no doubt
its makes u laugh but he is great at wordplay. Its not that great but I doubt many rappers in the game can make that kinda stuff up that's why he is a great lyricist
This is why i prefer the newer Eminem. He's less focused on being funny and more focused on his sick word play and punch lines. It's amazing that he can still come up with these amazing rhymes when he's this far into his career. GOAT
Josh Schmidt I agree. Old em was more shock value and hilarious. But now that I'm older I appreciate more complex bars and if he can still be funny and shocking at the same time it's a bonus.
Nobody can rap like this guy. There are other lyrical rappers, who I'd consider to be close competitors, but his ability to change up his flow in every song, and have the word play that he does, is what makes me believe that he dominates the rap game. He's held down mainstream rap for a decade and a half. You'll never find a rapper who can do this in their 40s again. Trust me.
Kyle Smith I swear people forget about the song Legacy. He does the same thing, cept through the entire song. Then there's Right For Me, where each verse uses a certain rhyming scheme while rhyming his ass off.
Yeah em is the best when it comes to rhyme schemes and multies. I have listened to a lot of mcs from rakim, pun, nas, to biggie etc. but eminem takes the top spot when it come to the technical rhyming aspect
4:13 And the next thing I know something came ( something that came means a killer or a criminal and shady xv 's cover is of Jason whooreeves the killer) Crawling up from below(revival) Something that made Godzilla (in music to by murdered by) Look like a plane(kamikaze) Damn em worked around this line
"Promising complete dominance, Sugar Ray Robinson I'm in a league Muhammad's in, Ali's my colleague bombing 'em Probably end up on top of 'em, stomping 'em like Ndamukong I'm Russian like a Ukrainian, LaDainian Tomlinson" GENIUS
One of his best songs. Punchlines insane. Good story telling. Amazing lyrics and wordplay. Amazing flow. Rhyme scheme stays consistent almost through the entire song. Fucking wild
I’m glad I can come to the comments of this song and see how many other people can see these godlike like lyrics. Good to see other people understand this.
I really don't understand why Baby and this track are bonus tracks and not on the normal album tracklist, swear to god Encore, Recovery and MMLP2 all have bonus tracks that should be on the main tracklist replacing some weaker songs that are actually there Relapse is the only album where the bonus tracks are on-par rather than superior to the main songs
+bolenz1 I'm sure I have, this entire album is so underappreciated with his wordplay.... I've listened to the whole thing a million times and every time I think I've caught everything there's something else I've missed lol!
this is my second favorite Eminem album (and if I'm being honest, that means my second favorite album ever by anyone) behind TES. so much honesty, emotion, and raw skill on both of them
“And one day, my uncle Ronnie brought over this New but different, music into the picture and it became my New religion…I REMEMBER IT CLEARLY. EVEN TODAY.” That always gives me goosebumps. Eminem literally giving us a detailed imagery on the very SECOND, he became Eminem.
+Sean Mounts Stop hating dude, you can have your opinion, sure, but so can other people, it's an Eminem song, so you're going to get hate. Em is a genius in every sorts, and so are other rappers. But Em is currently the best that is still alive.
+MICHEAL HUMPHREY Hey Mike dont make sense saying anything to him, haters will always hate and he will forever be warped in his own opinion. I mean we're living in an age now of whipping and nae naeing and these kids today will prob think thats the best thing they ever heard. It's ok if he thinks Rakim is still doing it, he prob come from and appreciate that time in hip hop. BUt to discount Em like he's not even good anymore is ridiculous. There'll never be a greatest of all time but if you have him in the top 10, then he is one of the greatest...the closest that can match Em word play is Biggie
Sean Mounts I don't know, I dickride Em, and don't think he has fallen off, but also listen to a lot more artists recently. I still think he's the greatest of all time, than any other emcee. But that's just me.
holy fuck read this it has to do with GHD (groundhog day) Eminem delivers the best quatrain of the year : So what does Eminem do here. One, he wants a total focus on rhyming. Literally every word apart from “Like/my/I’m” are feeding into the rhyme scheme. This leads to almost 95% rhyming match, something that the bars you link don’t have. He’s also holding an 8 syllable rhyme scheme in the first couplet. Eight! That’s impressive in its own right, but he goes one step further. He keeps this quatrain under one motif. Sports. So wrestling and Football. He starts it off with a wrestling metaphor, saying that he’ll dominate like the famous boxer, Sugar Ray Robinson. He’s also in the same league that Muhammad’s in. So in the best rappers of all time. Muhammed Ali is his colleague, furthering the metaphor. He’s bombing them with his rap. He’s destroying his competition so much so that he’ll end up on top of them like Ndamukong, a Detroit Lion’s football player who’s known for stomping his competition LITERALLY. He’s Russian - Rush-in' so he’s Rushing like the football player, Ladanian Tomlinson. AND THAT’S NOT IT! He’s also Russian and YOUR-CRANIUM which is a slant-homophone of Ukranian. Rushin' at your cranium is a double entendre for lyrics pouring into your brain as well as him literally rushing you like a football player… AND THAT’S NOT FUCKING IT YET. Ukrainian is a slant-homophone of the word Uranium, which is a prime substance in bombs, relating it back to the line “Bombing Em'”.
mark Balentine Beautifully broken down. The whole song is nuts. More word play than I think people really notice. I honestly have been listening to this song for about 2 weeks n continuously find there's a double meaning for damn near every line, phrase or rhyme. love this track
He keeps the same "icious" rhyme scheme for over 2 minutes. Superstitious, suspicious, he even pronounces "this shit" in such a way that it rhymes well.
John It’s not just “icious”, it’s the entire word “superstitious”, 4 syllables. Superstitious, grew suspicious, stupid pigeons, etc. Not to mention the internal rhymes crammed in there (stoop, pooped, group,) all rhyming with the first syllable of the aforementioned 4 syllable rhyme scheme. He’s literally the GOAT.
The "this shit" etc that makes something rhyme when you say it normally doesnt, is called a slanted rhyme. Like they say you cant rhyme orange.. orange - doorhinge its not a direct rhyme but the way it can be pronounced makes it a slanted rhyme
That's actually not what he says. The lyrics are "the goat just ate 8 acres and 1/8th of that was just to make a path and take it straight to your favorite rapper"
You make it sound as though he carried 1 rhyme throughout this entire song... it would make more sense on a song where he actually did that. I'm not sure if he has yet.
Yellow Brick Road Part II. It's a crime that this didn't make the album - especially when considering that many of the tracks on that LP are continuations of past ones.
"flow vomits in your face, competitors fall at my waist, you spit a rhyme, i spit in a rhymes face" I love that. The whole song has some incredible lyrics
People are so dumb. Obviously this wont be MMLP ... he's 40 some odd. Now he's actually concentrating on his direction he wants to take with his music. Listen to MMLP2 a couple more times. Lyrically hes a genious so many hidden things he has in this album. This is his best album! He has a bit of everything. And people shouldn't be mad what do you expect from him. He's still fire!!!! The fact he made a MMLP2 at this age is genious. I cant wait for his other album. If you like all the other shit about killing people listen to his old shit. Eminem forever! Straight up
so true the only Eminem album I like more is TES, and only barely. if his next album is anything like what he did on MMLP2 and 2015, it's probably going to be his best yet
@@AngryBlondEFTW yeah fucking right lol Eminem has not lost it at all yes facts he is getting older not younger but my god the man is fucking machine on the MIC!
parker crews nah... This is no doubt fire. But to me Relapse is unbeatable. I think it’s too dark for most but still his best work in my opinion. Relapse from start to finish is a lyrical masterpiece.
This song is so hard, Eminem is the epitome of hip hop and lyricism. Think about his bars and word play no other rapper is this witty and puts together verses like this especially not in today’s rap. Well done shady this why your the G.O.A.T
"Promising complete dominance Sugar Ray Robinson I'm in the league Muhamad's in Ali's my colleague bombin' em Probably end up on top of em Stompin em like Ndamokung I'm rushin' like a Ukranian Ladanian Tomlinson!"
To all the people who are saying this should have been on the original CD and not the deluxe edition have completely misunderstood a album named MMLP2, that is a sequal to MMLP. Lyrically, Monster is a grown up version of The Way I Am. How the fame is like a monster to him. If you have heard MMLP, then you know why a song like Asshole is on MMLP2.
Romy Taylor I somewhat side with you on this. I really don't think you can say that the finished product is a true continuation of TMMLP (if it was, we'd have a lot more reactionary songs and verses grappling with fame and media double standards etc.). Of course, that's not to say there aren't any similar aspects but still. I think Eminem chose the title TMMLP2 because he looks upon the original as his definitive album. He clearly wanted to put something together that in his mind approximated or bettered his major label sophomore in terms of scope, quality, personal importance and artistry. This is what most artists tend to do when they reuse a title and add a numeral. It's quite obvious that there are elements of all of his albums on TMMLP2 ("So Much Better" sounds like an updated "Puke" and Brainless would have sounded right at home on TSSLP or Relapse). For this reason, I would argue that Groundhog Day would work just fine as an album track (it's a sequel to Yellow Brick Road in a sense and details a vital part of dude's history). If you want another reason, the album is, frankly, fairly messy to begin with. I don't see how any kind of additional track could reduce its coherence drastically and it just so happens that Groundhog Day is stronger than at least half of the existing album.
To be quite honest, it would be near impossible for Eminem to pick up where TMMLP left off. For one, he'd have to be in a very specific headspace and somehow marry years of artistic endeavour to one era. Also, though the scenarios may be different, most of the themes on TMMLP are present on TSSLP and The Eminem Show (a proper trilogy). You'd have to pull a blinder to craft something that strongly resembles that record without it sounding like the preceding and subsequent ones.
***** I disagree with almost everything. Although some of the productions on TMMLP2 carry a similarly murky, hazy vibe to those on the original, the album is closer to Recovery more than anything else sonically (and even that's a stretch). I don't buy Eminem on that front at all. Almost nothing here sounds like early '00s Dre or Bass Brothers. As for Groundhog Day not fitting, it's not unlike Legacy and Evil Twin in that it consciously dips into the past and the manner in which the sample is embedded in the song is similar to Rhyme Or Reason and Love Game. There are several themes at play on TMMLP2, not one. Groundhog Day would complement those already listed and add a new dimension to the album.
I cringed so hard reading this comment. I can guarantee you that Eminem didn't think of "The Way I Am" once when writing "Monster." Monster's sole purpose was to be a hit radio single to promote the album. It was MMLP2's "I Love the Way You Lie."
***** Lyrical dexterity? What's unique or skillful about the way in which Monster is written? It's a song filled with generic cliches that teenage girls can sing along too. That was the entire purpose of that track and a method that Eminem has been using since 2010 (along with many artists before him). Also, I never said it was a break up song, those are your words, not mines. Also Drake has albums worth of material better than this song, please don't start with your biased "Drake isn't real hip-hop" bullshit, I can already see it coming.
It's definitely one if his most underrated and unheard songs from that time... But at the same point thats just my circle of people. They dont know what they're missing out on for real.
Lugit36 the point is that he doesn't say "ate the vet", he says "and an eighth of that", referring to mmlp. The 8 acres refers to his 8 albums and the mmlp ( 1 out of 8 , meaning an eighth or 1/8 ) made his path to the top and put him in the running to be the best along with nas, Jay, Pac, rakim, etc
"So name the Tim, place to battle bitch I'm still in that mind and state Don't make me step on you and make you wine grapes"- best line in this song. Just shows that em's just getting started and never gonna stop
1. "But the name's not James Todd I'm just a wordsmith (word- "smith". James Todd Smith was LL Cool J's real name. Pretty slick huh?) 2. So let these words "lift" cuz all I got is "bars" for you "dumbbells" and yours ain't "working out". Read it without the emphasis on the gym references and it STILL makes perfect fucking sense ! It's a shame that still there are people who hate on this man for piddly-ass reasons like skin colour and I quote "not contributing to the culture".
