Yeah man, you were mislead. You got the origin right...but the rap beef didn't start until MGK hit Eminem with a sublim when he was featured on Tech N9ne's "Mosh Pit." Then Em came out with "Not Alike" as a response. That quickly turned into two full diss tracks. "Rap Devil" followed by "Killshot." Since them, Em has been doing what he does...calling him out in almost every track he releases. Which will happen until he retires. Just like he did with Ja Rule. Rap God has nothing to do with this shit.
Em goes number one no matter what. His "bad" albums are actually not bad at all, just different. Still sold millions, still have more punchlines and intricate rhymes than anyone else. You're right about shit being undeniable though. I grew up a metal head and hip hop head. Can't deny greatness. I got Metallica - Ride the Lightning and Nas - Illmatic in my vinyl collection
Rap god was intended to be Em's Kendrick control moment he wanted rappers to get upset and respond to ignite that competive spirt he felt hip hop had been missing. It was meant as a come get me type of thing but people in the industry just took it as a song and accepted it as a foregone conclusion. You need to check out “Not alike” and I would love to see the reaction as I’m confident your view would change. Def no sublims in that one. It is probably one of the most technical diss tracks I’ve ever heard. Rap God had nothing to do with that beef which just goes to show how dense MGK was. I’m no Stan and I’m not anti MGK but it boggles my mind to this day that MGK thought he could hold a candle to EM.
