Ever since Eminem morphed into an unlikely force in hip-hop, Em’s accolades as a producer have been inconspicuously stacking up. On top of granting artists such as Akon, Lloyd Banks, and his Bad Meets Evil comrade Royce Da 5”9 their biggest hits with ‘Smack That’, ‘On Fire’ and ‘Lighters’ respectively, Em's reputation as a safe and capable pair of hands behind the boards has led to him racking up well over100 production credits over his storied career. Drafted in to make beats for the posthumous work of The Notorious B.I.G and Pac as well as etching his name into Jay Z's legacy with tracks such as the infamous ‘Renegade’, ‘Moment Of Clarity’ and ‘Eight Miles & Runnin’, Shady’s 360-degree approach to hip-hop gives him a unique distinction. As in addition to being on many people’s Mount Rushmore’s of MC’s, Em has produced for a whole host of those that’d share a spot beside him. From Nas and Jadakiss to Sticky Fingaz, Xzibit and Busta Rhymes, both Shady’s star power and clear-cut ability to tap into an artists’ headspace has meant that he’s uplifted careers in ways that go beyond a co-sign or guest verse. But somehow, the best-selling artist of the 2000s still finds himself sidelined when talk turns to the most prolific beatmakers.

I get Eminem has “Stans” that just think everything he do is perfect and they think he’s the best rapper alive, but that doesn’t mean we discredit him for all the good he has done in hip-hop. In someways I think Eminem is still extremely underrated. I’m not saying you have to be a fan of yours by any means there’s lots of rappers that work their ass off and that are very good at their craft but maybe their style isn’t for me But that doesn’t mean I just shit on them and talk shit. Dude is one of the top-tier lyricist ever in the game and no one wants to give him credit for the hits he’s produced as a producer and I know rap labels started by rappers under a parent company only have 4 to 6 years when they first start that they are putting out platinum and gold everything. After that I don’t care if it’s shady records, death Row records, no limit records, G unit records, bad boy records, lynch mob records, The first 46 years their labor will be on fire and then as the main artist popularity starts fading down so does the label. At least give Eminem credit for all the people he put on. Rappers, producer/beat makers, writers, there are a lot of rich African Americans today that are in the position they are in because Eminem put them on or put the guy on that put them on. D12, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Obie Trice , Royce da 5’9”, Boogie, Ca$his, and put a main stage light on Slaughterhouse. On top of that he is one of the few label hands Dearing the mumble rap phase that said fuck that shit I’m going to keep signing and working with real emcees. Not saying you have to suck his dick or anything I’ll be his number one fan but at least give the guy props where he deserves it. Great video man. Awesome.

I'd argue that Jeff Bass is one of the most underrated producers. Why? Because it is he who inspired Em's production. Em's production style follows from the Funky Bass Brothers, and Jeff Bass has produced my favourite Em songs. Every song where Em gets introspective, and deep, it's almost always on a Jeff Bass production. Dre produced most of his dance tracks. Kim, Rock Bottom, Marshal Mathers, Lose Yourself, Cleaning Out My Closet, Sing For The Moment, Superman, Criminal and many others were produced by Jeff and Mark Bass. Even songs like Em's produced The Way I Am, Renegade and Patiently Waiting, they all sound like Jeff Bass made it. The Bass Brothers were a huge influence on Em's production style.
