I'm falling deeper and deeper into the Stan transformation. I don't think there is any turning back! Yet ANOTHER masterpiece! While I was given this link by several people, turns out there is some minor Censorship. I was only able to find lyric versions that were not censured, but I will take small censoring in exchange for the music video that gives me the other half of the picture. This was another masterpiece.

Eminem: Writes song Larry: And I took that emotionally

This is going to be long, but hopefully helpful. This story is partly true and partly hypothetical. It's about a big beef (feud) that was going on back in the day. It was only about 6-7 years after the deaths of Pac and Biggie that this happened, so it was all very fresh in everyone's minds. I'm the farthest thing from an expert and I don't think there really is a full accurate accounting of what happened, just due to the nature of the situation - people won't talk about it, but this is what I've managed to scrape together personally. So there were these beefs that were all going on at once, and eventually melded together. This was Em's attempt to squash (end) it. It never really did end to this day, but it's just petty pokes now, it simmered down. There were three elements 1- Suge Knight (this is the beef Dre told Em to stay out of) who is a legendary baddie and former owner of Death Row Records. He really made some huge contributions to hip hop and is a legend in his own right for good and bad things. There's a lot of history with Dre here. Suge reportedly liked to send goons after people, especially Dre and his people because of their relationship. He had a reputation for violence, stuff like dangling Vanilla Ice off of a balcony (allegedly). He's currently in prison. 2- The Source Magazine/Benzino. This was Em's beef. It's complicated as well, but basically the co-owner Benzino went on a smear campaign against Em and it got really hot. At one point he said in a song that Hailie would go missing and end up dead. I don't know of any actual violence here. 3- Murder Inc/Ja Rule. This was 50 Cent's beef and it started in the streets. One story is that Ja got robbed of his chain at gunpoint by a friend of 50's, and when Ja saw 50 with the guy the beef started. Ja was signed to Murder Inc (record label), which was rumored to have ties to the people who were rumored to have shot 50. This beef got very violent at times. When 50 signed to Shady/Aftermath (record labels) Dre and Em asked 50 not to take shots at Ja on record and 50 sort of behaved himself, but Ja decided to go on record and diss (disrespect) Em, Dre and 50. He said "Em you claim that your mother's a crackhead and Kim is a known slut, so what's Hailie gon' be when she grows up" along with various threats and insults toward them and others. From there it escalated, both on and off record. Several dozen songs were spawned from this beef - really interesting to listen to the songs, probably not so fun to live what was going on. Serious threats were being thrown around (including from Em). It involved dozens of people on both sides including 50 Cent's G-Unit and Em's group D12 and protege Obie Trice and others. Fights, 50's record manager's office was shot up at one point, and probably a lot of stuff that wasn't public and never will be. They were all running around in bullet proof vests and not just for a fashion statement. I think Em believed it had gotten close to a breaking point, and that someone was going to get killed, which is where the hypothetical comes in. He, 50, Dre - all of the big names in the light - behind them were all of the others who support them, young and upcoming rappers, fans, people willing to fight for them verbally or otherwise. That's the person in that bed. I get why people say Bugz since Em knew him and there was a tribute to him at the end of the video, but Bugz wasn't the only person Em knew who died of violence, so I don't think so. I think the lyrics make it clear that he's talking about how it's usually the people who aren't in the light, 'one of his people' who are the ones that get hurt and killed. He's saying that if he makes the choice to be the bigger man and put down the mic, take a step back, then he may be able to prevent that hypothetical from happening, because all of the people out there supporting him won't feel the need to fight for him anymore, him having made the choice to end it. Of course he unilaterally declared his side the winner at the same time. Luckily pretty much everyone agreed with him since Murder Inc/The Source had both been really pummeled by the beef and other legal and financial issues. You might want to react to some of the diss tracks someday just to see what they're like - Em's pretty legendary for the feuds he's been involved in, though I think this was by far the most serious one. Diss tracks do tend to get into the hardcore territory but there are quite a few that are just funny and disrespectful - Em tends to go the mocking route. Nail in the Coffin ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--TX6o7R8LSg.html aimed at Benzino/The Source Magazine or Hail Mary remix Em, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5YLBTWZimuU.html aimed at Ja Rule might be ones to check out to give you an idea of what rap beef is. They're both very disrespectful but pretty tame lyrically - there will be some cursing. Glad you said you didn't mind novels because I can't help writing them. Always love your reactions, was happy to see this one up, one of my favorite Em stories of all time and knowing the back story as an adult makes it hit so much harder.

This song is actually one of Em's nightmares; Proof is playing the part of another friend who got shot in a drive by, and he's sitting there bleeding out on the table... and then that's basically exactly what happens to Proof, too.

@@michaeldandrea9648 the song is about the struggles of the business and how both sides lose people senselessly to the battle and how its pointless. and he doesnt want to lose anymore people on either side. either literally or metaphorically. Yeah this is a really tough song for Em. He talked about how guilty he felt putting this into the universe (his best friend is playing the part of the man shot in the video) later to be killed himself in a similar way shortly after this. Em felt that him giving his friend the role in the video cursed him and always felt responsible in a way.

The chorus is called Toy Soldiers a song by Martika that came out in the 80's. Martika is the lead singer throughout the song and is joined on the chorus by some of her former castmates from Kids Incorporated: Stacy Ferguson (Fergie), Rahsaan Patterson, and Renee Sands, as well as later cast members Kimberly McCullough and Devyn Puett as backup vocalists

What I like about Eminem's style of storytelling is that it's not "on the nose" at all. He encourages the listeners to dig into the backstory themselves. It actually makes it more intriguing.

Great reaction, such a heavy song and talking about a very important topic. Some notes on the video. The guy laying on the bed dying was supposed to be a member of D12, Bugz, who was murdered. It was played by Proof, Doodie, who later ends up getting murdered. At the end of the video, deceased rappers including Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Big L, and Bugz are also shown in animation form at the end of the music video to show the fatal consequences of rap wars. In a case of life imitating art, Proof himself was shot and killed on April 11, 2006, after an altercation broke out at a nightclub in Detroit, Michigan. "In the year after [Proof] died," Eminem said in a his memoir The Way I Am, "I would stare at the ceiling and think about that video. Did karma cause that to happen in real life? Did I? You always want to point the finger at somebody else when something like that happens, you know?"

Hearing that and knowing that it wasn't just me, that someone else knew what it was like, 100% his music saved my life. I'll always be his fan because of that. Back then lots of people wrote him off but he's honestly one of the most profound lyricist of our time. Thank you for reacting to this song, it’s such an important message and incredibly written example of Eminem’s talent. Sending love and strength to your wife and family as she navigates this difficult time with her father. No matter how old our parent is, it’s an incredibly difficult loss to process. The 23rd February will be the 15th anniversary of my Mum’s passing, she was just fifty years old and to this day I still struggle, so I am sending so much love to your wife and hoping that her Dad’s situation improved. Like Toy Soldiers is referencing his friends in the rap community being shot and murdered aka falling like soldiers. It begins at the hospital where Eminem and other rappers are watching, in despair, the doctors trying to save D12 member Bugz (played by fellow D12 member Proof), who was killed in 1999. "Like Toy Soldiers" describes Eminem's attempts to defuse violence in the hip-hop and rap community. Eminem speaks openly about problems with The Source magazine and its editor Benzino, as well as the situation between 50 Cent and Ja Rule and his label Murder Inc., which Eminem felt went far beyond the Jay-Z vs. Nas feud. The song finishes as Eminem offers a truce to his enemies. In addition, this song also reveals that Eminem had tried to stop Ja Rule & 50 Cent's feud, but lost it when he heard Ja Rule making fun of his daughter on a track called "Loose Change" - ("The Ja Shit, I tried to squash it, It was too late to stop it, There's a certain line you just don't cross and he crossed it, I heard him say Hailie's name on a song and I just lost it"). In the song "Loose Change", Ja Rule says Eminem claims his ex-wife is "a known slut" and his mother "a crackhead", and then asks him "so what's Hailie gonna be when she grows up?". As a result of this song, Eminem refused to get himself involved in some of 50 Cent's later feuds. Eminem is a lyrical genius who makes us feel like regardless of what we are going through, he understands and has been there… he has a song to help us through the depression, the loss of loved ones, addiction struggles and getting through the other side. He is such an incredible artist. Another incredible track is Hailie’s Song which he never intended to release - Dr Dre convinced him. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gs6iSYxKZsg.html

There have been countless threats of violence and death in the feuds he’s mentioned here, but no one had been killed as a result of any of the beef mentioned in this song (D12 member Proof was later shot and killed during a nightclub altercation). He’s probably referring to the rap beefs that have ended in death, most notably 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G.. These losses should have enlightened the Hip-Hop community, highlighting the harsh reality of beefing and having conflict in rap.

From what I could tell most of the censorship was just swear words which you could probably tell which words he was using. There is one part that was censored when talking about "it was business and it just wasnt none of my business, so I watched and just gritted my teeth" The censored word leading up to that line was "Suge" and he was referencing Suge Knight who is currently in prison. Mosh is a good video that isnt really sad, more of his stance on the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. This is the explicit music video version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9wRLd5l7WYE.html

I've watched a lot of your reactions to Eminem and they're heartening to watch; you've even helped me catch things I missed before. I know his type of music isn't everybody's cup of tea, and I'm not gonna pretend that everything he makes is perfection, but as somebody who doesn't generally listen to rap I fell in love with his music a long time ago because he was one of very few rappers that, instead of just bragging and beating their chest, would really talk about his feelings, personal issues; believing in himself, moving past trauma, protecting his family, etc. A lot of his songs aren't made just to be filler content to flesh out an album so it can go on sale, they carry a message or tell a story, and even if they haven't been through what Eminem has been through, a lot of people can relate at some level with the things he talks about. His music helps people. There's a little something for everybody in his music. Part of me would like to meet him, but part of me realizes that at a personal level, we probably have nothing in common and he deserves to be able to walk around without random people bugging him, so I'll settle for enjoying his music and using it when I need some comfort or encouragement.

I have always been a big fan of his songs and I will never stop listening to him. He played a big part in hip hop and because of him you have all kinds of artists that try and copy him but hardly any of them can do what he does. Many other artists even tried calling him out and they either stopped really fast or just quit singing. He has ended a lot of artist’s careers because he tells it how it is. At the time he was still mourning his friends Bugz who was a member of his rap group D12. His friend Proof was shot to death in this video and was sadly gunned down a few years after this came out April 11, 2006 after someone pulled a gun on him in a bar fight and it shook him enough that he lost his best friend after they finished up D12’s last album EMINEM Presents: The Re-Up he went on a hiatus where he got super heavy into his drug addiction and overdosed December 2007 and almost died. Then he got clean in 2008 and dedicated his new album Relapse to his friend Proof in 2009 and he has been sober since. The Re-Up actually has the very last song on it that Proof was working on when he died. They didn’t add any verses to it or do anything, but master it and let his verse stand on its own on the album. Proof’s son is a rapper now and getting ready to put out his first album. Here is the last song Proof ever recorded. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dsr7Uq6fex0.html

Great video! To explain a little bit better, the friend that is in the video is Proof, at that time he was alive but he ended up being murdered in a bar, because of a fight. So that video kind makes sense now. The song is about em getting out of the beefs that he entered because it was not because of that he entered in hip hop / rap. And he is scared that someone else close to him ends up dieing
@andersbobson8653
@andersbobson8653 2 года назад
what really hits hard about this song today, is that the person who plays bugs in this video also dies some years later in a shooting! which when you think about it, it most be hard for eminem to watch this video because it's almost literally footage of one of his best friends dying! and for context: eminem had/has a band which is named d12 and two of the members were bugz and proof! who both died of being shot to death! and proof plays bugz in this video! so basically this music video shows the death of one of eminem's best friends, while also showing the *prediction* of another of his best friends, so when eminem watches this, it most be like a double whammy.

Song suggestions - Eminem "Love the way you lie": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uelHwf8o7_U.html -explicate [Domestic violence warning] He and Rihanna perfectly break down the cycle of toxic relationships as they have both been in them, Em with Kim and Rihanna with Chris Brown There is also a part 2 that you should do by Rihanna ft Em no music video so here is a lyric video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2B50RUXbs-8.html "Love you more", this one doesn't have a music video as it wasn't a single but here's a lyric video link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uzTqU2BVf10.html Again about his toxic relationship but more personal with how they cheated on each other and hated each other but were also addicted to the pain they caused one another "I need a doctor (Dr Dre ft Em & Skylar Grey)": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VA770wpLX-Q.html -explicate It has a long build up so if you don't want to sit through it skip to 2:45 If u don't skip it you'll see a montage of clips from Dre's life up to this point (2011) including clips with Eazy-E (one of his best friends who died of aids in 1995), the rest of NWA (his group), 2pac (who was shot and killed in 1996) his ex wife who he was happily married to at the time, his kids, and Em (one of his best friends) Dre's son died of an overdose in 2008 so that along with other things caused Dre to lose confidence and slip into a depression and the song is about how Em is trying to help Dre out of his depression and with music like Dre did with him in the beginning. I have more suggestions but this is getting too long

I think the beginning of the video is a representation of him losing Proof (his best friend). The line in Arose about falling over his body, God why did you take him? Benzino and Ja, who he mentions in the song, are some the rappers careers he's ruined. Benizo worked at the Source, which was a very well respected rap magazine. Benizo tried to trash Eminems new CD and it essentially destroyed the magazine.

It's not, that was actually Proof on the bed or stretcher, whatever it was, and then in the coffin. What it's a representation of is what could have happened if the beef with Ja Rule had escalated to actual violence, Proof died two years after this album was released.

It's about his beef with benzino and murder inc. he was saying "I'm out" because he didn't want himself or someone he loved to die over a stupid rap beef. His decision came when he found out that murder inc aligned themselves with Suge knight. It was at this time he realized he was in over his head and respectfully bowed out, because Suge is the type of person to actually kill you. That was the censored line in the song. "My intentions where good, I went through my whole career without ever mentioning [Suge]. And that was just outta respect, for not running my mouth, talking about something that I knew nothing about." Interscope record's censored the word Suge' because they had delt with him in the past, and even though Eminem wasn't saying anything disrespectful against Suge, interscope wasn't taking any chances. One crazy thing about this video is that the death of proof (yes I know the song was about bugz) how he was shot outside a nightclub would actually be the way he died in 2006 two years after the release of toy soldiers.

I think it might be a good track for you, as it's much more optimistic than the other songs you've heard so far! It also picks up on the theme you've noticed about Eminem trying to reach people who are having difficult times. It's from "Recovery", which was his fifth major studio album. Recovery was also generally perceived to be his return to form after a fourth album, "Relapse", which many thought was good but not great. He was still struggling with addiction when writing Relapse, but was (as the name suggests) in a better place when he made Recovery.

He doesn't come up with it, it's his reality, & how life began for him, then the ships story and he turned the stigma of a poor white boy growing up in the 1980's Detroit streets which were predominantly all black, which didn't bother him and probably didn't think it was supposed to. This is where his lyrics came from...life, his life. He was not given anything, never asked for anything either so he started building a life he wanted and stayed true to himself. He embraced his love of music and set on what would be an immensely long path to his dream and did anything and everything to make it happen. Giving up wasn't an option. His music isn't packed in a pretty box bc his life wasn't pretty, what you hear come out of his mouth is brutal honesty because it's his brutal reality. It's almost like God had this special gift set aside because he knew when he gave life to Marshall, Marshall would shine as an infant child and God already knew what was lying ahead for this special child, however also knew he would honor this special gift and use it correctly & protect it with his life. Marshall was strong enough to give his peers time to truly understand and witness the short lived purity and innocence in himself before a life of raw uncertainty, he walked through it with tough and lived each day with a purpose and need that was carved into his soul but also protected the ones he loved
