Yep, I was like "Oh Stevie, a switch is comin and you gonna raise some eyebrows! I love the surprise element from Em's songs with these reactors, and Stevie is always the best!
last verse when both the voices blend together and keep rapping gave me chills. Dang have not heard this song in so long!! Keep up the great reactions!
I believe Eminem is em rapping to the best of his abilities, Slim Shady is the crazy wack shit Eminem, and Marshall is the serious storytelling em. That's how I see it anyway.
@Eoin Donnan in the videos description there's a link to his patreon. It's 5 a month but most mmlp and ss lp reactions to unlock every single song is like $25 which is a shame but yeah
This is Rembrandt of DMX's "Damien" songs. The internal battle between good and evil, the devil you've invited in vs who you want to be on a better path. Definitely a bonus track that I loved.
Amazing writing skills. Nobody else does this. Nobody. I feel he doesn't get enough credit for this type of stuff because people are to thick to understand
The creativity Eminem has is unmatchable. He's a real artist. This song is dark about selling your soul. He's so famous he says he sold his soul to the devil but there is down sides to being that famous. Brilliant song the writing, the idea, it's as you said a genius had to write this.
I think he's talking to his drug addiction. The part where Dre says "ever since you got off the drugs you became soft" it's like his paranoia during withdrawal. Plus when the voice says "look a little closer, isn't that us on that poster" makes you think of Relapse album cover, Eminem's face made with pills.
stupid, relapse is one of the most hardest, lyrical albums out to date. eminem snapped on that album ppl just didnt like hes accent personally its on my top 5 albums of all time
I love this song. The "demon" or "Slim" is tempting Marshall the whole song and bringing up bad memories to get the anger flowing back into him. And then at the very end when Marshall and the demon are rapping together, he's starting to give in. And then at the end he's fully embraced becoming Slim again.
Damn Steve! I love going down this road with you. You're hearing these tracks for the first time and I'm taking a strol down memory lane. And Em is so good that we are both enjoying it. I have this album and haven't pulled it out in years but watching you react to it made it new for me.
Yeah and right before that " and it G G Goes... " right before the hook and when the demon start to speak, like he was summoning or feel it coming since G G G inverted to make for 666 and he struggling to speak so your realizer the it goes mean there it come again , not only a hook launch. That dude put way more effort in single songs that some people on full album it's crazy...
“Isn’t that us on that poster?” Love that line, refering to the album cover which is eminem made out off pills, which is basicilly slim shady. Get it Eminem on drugs = slim shady Love this song
My Interpretation on ‘My Darling’: The voice is definitely an allegory for his Drug abuse. This album was written after Em’s hiatus when he checked himself into rehab. When the voice brings up “you lost your best friend from high school”, it’s referring to Proof who was shot to death. At this point in time, Em had just gotten out of rehab and heard about his best friends death, this causing him to ‘Relapse’ back into drug abuse. Many comments are saying “if it’s Shady then why would the voice say ‘Shady, I know you’re in there..,?’” The reason I think anyway, is because the drugs know that Shady is laying dormant due to rehab and the drugs “Know he’s there so come back out” it’s sort of like when a therapist talks to a client with MPD, and says something along the lines of “Well, can I talk to this personality” or Straight up starts talking to that personality. To put in a better analogy, think of a movie when the main character or something is taken over by an alien/spirit/whatever and the other characters say “(insert character name) I know you’re in there! Come on fight it and come back to us.” Another way we can tell it’s conversation between drugs/Shady and Em/Marshall is due to the chainsaw revving in the background, the chainsaw being Shady’s weapon of choice, he was seen performing with it on stage and the like and makes numerous references to Shady and the chainsaw in his other songs. Now, lots of people say that he’s talking to the devil, could he? Of course he could be, for one thing, most musicians don’t actually believe in a god/devil, two, those same musicians who don’t will refer to such things as such since it more recognizable o people, and third, most musicians when they reach Em’s level refer to record labels as the devil as well. When they sign contracts they refer to that as “Selling your soul”, reason being, when you sign a contract with a record label, that record label makes most of the decisions or you. What you can and can’t say on a song. What you can and can’t do in public and what not. That’s why it called Dre and saying “I can bring your career back” at this point Em was considering leaving before his label/Dre got ahold of him because people wanted him back. Some people’ll say “Well, the devil is a spirit and Shady isn’t.” Well, he’s a subconscious, he can be considered a spirit, Em is possessed by Shady, much like when people are possessed by demons and spirits and what not. He also refers to the poster, the Relapse/Relapse: Refill poster is Shady made up of pills. Back to the whole drug thing, as I said, Em was already off his drugs and people noticed that. The very same people who told Em to get off his drugs and make music, told him to get back on them to make better music. Hence why Dre said that he seemed to have gotten softer after he stopped abusing drugs. “My Darling” from what I can tell, is the Drugs/Hip Hop in general/Em’s record label saying that he can’t leave since they belong together. “ ‘Cause I possess your soul, your mind, your heart and your body.” Could very well be addiction, because addiction essentially takes over all of those things when you get hooked on something. During certain parts of the song you can hear the chainsaw fully starting up, more than likely meaning that Shady was slowly starting to come back, definitely apparent at the end of the song when you can hear Em screaming when the chainsaw fully revs back up, and of course when their voices overlap as well, meaning that they’re one in the same person. “I’m not in the mirror I’m inside you.” Sure you can “beat” addiction, but it’ll always be inside of you, always lurking and watching and waiting for you to indulge back into what you tried to escape from in the first place. Em has done an incredible job by being 12 years sober, but, that luring feeling will always be there, just in the corner of his mind. But, that’s just what I think anyways.
His drug addiction.. he said himself tht he couldn't make new materials without pills n ppl said him as shady is much more fun so this is that drug talking ti him to go back being that evil twin n back to drugs
And then in the end when he's singing and then the opposite happens where slim shady comes behind him to join, finishing the song like see I'm still here, you can't get rid of me. It's fkn beautiful
This song used to scare me as a kid, it took me like 5 tries to actually have courage to finish it lol. Regardless this has always been one of my favorite songs.
Oh man it's dope to see someone reacting to this gem! I really enjoy the syncopation in Em's rap style here. Then again, the GOAT can do any and everything, so there's that.
He originally did this like 6 months ago on his patreon STEVIE waited a while to post this on you tube he usually only waits a week or 2 to take his patreon posts to here but he must have forgot to do this one
He’s loosely wording the lyrics as he’s reading them. Em has a pretty consistent flow on this so it’s pretty easy to figure out the cadence and just read a head by a word or 2
Nah cause everyone caught on when he said it on Lucky You with Joyner Lucas. Some folks say he really sold his soul, others say he sold out his morals for fame.
He defo did. This song is way to specific. I mean think about the line where he said 'remember that night when you prayed to God'. Ye well, he was visited by the devil who offered him a deal first
Uhhhh what?! Let’s put aside science for a sec.... it’s just an old adage, he says it all the time but this song perfectly represents what the old adage actually means....Losing everything-his freedom, privacy, Kim, Proof in exchange for rap/his career/doing some thing he loves/record deal.
What i get from people saying "selling their soul to the devil" is that they put all the sweat and blood to their work as if they do this rap shit or die.
Who caught that possum bar ...at the end...the dark voice said ...i was jus playin possum remember ??....that shit was genius flew over everyones head but me
Out of all the reactions to this song. Your one of the few that caught on that it wasnt the devil he was talking to. Im glad some people understand the song and what he meant by that voice which is slim shady in marshalls mind.. shady is trying to get marshall to go back to shady. Its a fight within. Awesome song. Thats why em is a goat
Its slim shady: 1. Chainsaw in the background (shady’s signature weapon) 2. Em says “I already killed you” because in the song when im gone, he kills slim shady 3. slim asks Marshall about the hair, the short blonde hair which is shady’s signature cut The voice being the devil would be too basic, we all know em has deeper meanings
This is in my top favorite songs by Marshall ❤ The way he keeps it so on the same level, then sings... He's wrestling with his demons and brings us all along on the journey.. most honest writer living today! ❤👊🎶🔥💯
Its his demon addiction. That maybe used to manifest as Slim Shady with the bleach blonde hair and outrageousness of liquid courage. He thought it was just an alter ego. A stage persona. But once he got clean, he realizes it was his addictions that have now taken on a metaphoric form here as a demon, a monster. One That tries to make him doubt who he really is and what he can do, and that he can only be succesful with the slim shady demon addiction cause thats all the fans want. And can he still be Eminem, can he still write and rhyme, without Slim Shady, which is without the drugs? Wasn't that all he always wanted, did his kids even love him, did he sell his soul for it, do his fans really only want Shady and don't care what happens to Marshall? It's briiliant use of horror symbolism as metaphor. Cause we all know the demon is a metaphor for his own self doubts, low self esteem issues, self loathing and self criticism. Which the drugs used to give him confidence and a shield against, and he didn't have to worry about any of it when he was high. He just didn't give a F. But now that he can think clearly again, and doesn't have a haze of brain fog, all his old self esteem issues come back and he can't hide from them anymore. And he's trying hard not to relapse again just to make the fear and pain go away. Its a heartbreaking, extremely honest, incredibly artistic expression he gives in this track. Brilliant. And very real for people who battle addiction. They have to learn all over again who they actually are without the drugs, and then how to be that, and how to make that enough. Can only imagine how hard it is for him doing that at this kind if scale, wondering if the drugs made him what he was and not talent, especially with the fans always saying they want that version of him back, when that version almost cost him his life! When of course we know he was always good enough. Just look at this track he made, which is an incredibly brilliant work of artistic genius.
Stevie at 5:10 yeah I can vibe with this YEAH!!This some club shit........ Stevie at 09:50 THIS SOME DARK SHIT!! There's no MY DARLING in this song. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the whole time I was watching I was like wait for it...wait for it...lols.
I want you to come pick me music talk to us in so many ways Eminem keep telling y'all what's going on through his music and more MCS do that too not mobile rappers not juke rappers or drill rappers only MC's thanks for the goats but through this song he told people things that happen right now 2022 shout out to you keep it up you love you out here..
If you want to hear the craziest rhyme schemes and complex lyricism listen to Eminem relapse album. It’s so underrated. Because it’s a bit goofy cuz he raps with a accent.
The voice talking to Em is the devil/ Slim Shady. You can hear slim shadys voice mixed in with the devils toward the end. He sold his soul to the devil to be shady and all the fame that comes with it. That’s why the song is so interesting because he’s talking to the devil which happens to be his alter ego
I love the slower flow em, when people say they want the old em, they want that slower flow em. When every thing he said was hard as fuck, and not straight technical rap fast as fuck.
I love how as the 3rd verse starts to end, you hear ems regular voice layered ontop of the Shady devil voice... as you realise he is that guy and that guy is still within him... really good editing
Bro you gotta check out Eminem - Buffalo Bill its off the same album as this Relapse Refill album, dead serious the cadence and rhyme scheme is crazy in that song
I heard this is em fighting with his addiction look close isn't that us in that poster and it means the relapse cover which is a portrait of eminem made up of pills
Em needs these beats back with Bass or harder that chainsaw hard. he is crazy this song makes sense too he exposed the darkside of fame in a way people can understand
Fun fact: That thing with killing Shady and breaking the mirror, this was the intro skit on the SSEP. And the picture on the tape was him breaking a mirror.
