Em strives for the perfect album, he knows it's literally impossible because you can't please everyone. But that's the ambition that keeps him going, reaching that height no one's ever been at. He's already there yet he keeps pushing it. Critics and haters always gonna hate. That why he says in the beginning that he hates "you" but he also needs "you" because "you" keep feeding him reasons to stay in the game. Eventually he'll be tired out, most likely not because of goals unachieved but physically and mentally. He's pushing 50 after all.

I agree with you. I honestly think that if Revival was done better on the production side of things, and was less heavy on the pop and r&b features. THAT could have been his "perfect album" he showed, growth, awareness, utilized his platform to speak on social and political issues; which is NOT an obligation in this day and age, gave us a bit of all 3 personas on one album. It just sonically sounded horrible on so many levels on more then one track which is why it was so heavily criticized. But HE clearly KNOWS that for HIM it was a special project he holds dear or else he wouldn't still be talking about it 2 albums later. I think if he just cuts the white noise and does it the way he WANTS to do it. . . .he can achieve that one more album that ppl will consider a classic.

Wow these are two very detailed, constructive, and concise explanations that I completely agree with. I think revival IS a classic in its own way because it showed us a different side of Em. One that we never saw before, but I can understand why others think it was a flop. Also keep in mind though that nowadays hating on Em is cool. It’s like Russ. People who don’t know shit about Em hate on him cause it’s the norm/meme. No matter what he puts out.

Yo this was track was a HUGE shoutout to Tom Brady! He’s saying his life with the critics is similar. Everybody hates Brady, everyone says he’s not making top tier money and his wife is richer than him but he’s not playing for the money he’s playing for the love of the game. They call him The GOAT while simultaneously saying he’s not good anymore. Nobody ever wants to talk crap about any other players that have been around for a long time.
