"Its not about the money , its about Hip-Hop" Gotta respect Em for that , he gets so much hate for loving what he does and being great at it , damn shame
@@zillaman7674 im gonna guess ur a broke ass hater.. usually peeps hatin on RU-vid or playing the race card, aren't very successful & living miserable lives .... get ur own grind & keep ish moving in a positive direction..
I miss these old Angie Martinez interviews.she’s a legend and don’t get enough credit in this world of hiphop.she’s brought us so many moments and radio interviews it’s unreal.
How can you not have respect for somebody like this he's literally humble shows respect to all the greats he gives back to Hip Hop and he's not arrogant
Em was everywhere when I was growing up. Met him once seen him in concert and dude is so humble. You would think he would be a ass hole but he was very respectful and joked around about life and you can just tell how he became so successful. The way he talks to people and carries himself is phenomenal
What did you think of the rat race song he did before he got famous ?? Also you do know its a racist song and Benzino put it out because he bought it from some of Em old friend
@@markhenry8267 who cares em done apologized for it along time ago. Funny that you bring just that up after everything I commented. Only people who want to argue about race issues comment about irrelevant old shit.
@@markhenry8267 even crook adressed it dude,he was 15 stop acting like we all didn t do stupid things at that age ,also really em racist?most of his friends are black lmao
The troll game on this interview was out of this world, em had me laughing so many times 😂 I’ve listened to this interview over 20 times and it has me cracking up every time. Benzino lit a fire under Eminem after benzino threatened to kill Eminem’s daughter, Eminem was so disrespectful during this interview 😂.
Lmaooo 😂😂 "This girl is obsessed with me. I just can't understand it" 😂😂 That had me rolling. If anyone jumped into the interview from that point, they would think he was talking about Kim or something lolol
Unless you're acutally a lyricist like K-Rino or Canibus! Benzino on the other hand is most definitely not a lyricist, but like Eminem said in this interview, he's one of the worst rappers in the world!
Have you heard 'better lose yourself or die another day' ? Not bad diss tracks by benzino....im a huge em fan but i think zino had better diss tracks compared to 'the sauce' and 'Nail in the coffin'. 'Pull your skirt up' wasn't the best by zino. A little much talkin about ems family.
Benzino just cried on Drink Champs about the 22 year beef ROFL "EFFF Eminem and all his followers! moments later "I dont hate Eminem man....booohoo "I'd give him a hug" boooohoooo ROFL
I will always love this man's philosophy on life and on music. It wasn't just selling more of their music it opened the door for more artists like Mac Miller (miss him so much) all those who will follow into the genre.
Em is a legend and can't deny what he has done for hip-hop but I get tired of the g.o.a.t argument. I can name five white emcees that can go toe to toe and bar for bar with Em they just ain't have the machine and Dre behind them ...anyway at the end of the day it's about preference I guess .
@@markhenry8267 LOL I mean it was funny, but not really good,he was only a kid and haven't honed his skills in rap.So the answer would be no i didn't love it,only enjoyed it to an extant.
I think this interview was from late 2002/early 2003, but i remember hearing them benzino diss tracks on the radio and it had me like "holy shit", eminem straight up destroyed him
Yeah he picked Em thinking that the race card would save him and get people on his side. Forgetting that Dre is around, 50, D12, Obie Trice are around him and respect him.
From the opening statements about 8mile by Angie it’s definitely November 2002 I think that’s when that green lantern mixtape came out around as well so that fits that window
Benzino cross the line when he talked about Eminem's daughter Hailie Jade Mathers you don't wanna go there my man when these rappers are gonna learn you don't diss Hailie in a song because if you do then that's the end of your career.
To be fair Eminem had already crossed that line first when he mentioned Benzino's son Ray Ray in his song The Sauce but he didn't threaten to harm him unlike what benzino said about Eminem's daughter in his song Die Another Day. Although Benzino did mention Eminem's family members first when he mentioned Eminem's mom in his songs I Don't Wanna and Pull Your Skirt Up
It's crazy .... Cause after this ... He really put Benzino to rest when he said "Go to Sleep" ... Which Premiered on DMX's world premiere Movie the Cradle 2 The Grave ' . . .
He says it in a Kay Slay Freestyle from 02... it's a Skelton beat for the song that came out later that year kn th 8 mile soundtrack..."I just wanna love u" with 50 and Obie trice... he says "I've made beats for Jayz for free/page me u need a beat/ you CaniBus than its Dre's fee/ you Kay Slay the fee's waived"
I don't know where the audio is but this is from when Benzino phoned into the Angie Martinez show on Hot 97 to respond to this interview Benzino: “Yo I’m from da hood! I’m reppin for my people man!! I rep the block!! This is for hip hop!! Hip hop is da streets!!” Angie Martinez: But why don’t you have beef with any of the other artists who’s selling like Nelly and Ja? Why Em? Benzino: Cause this cracka don't know nothing about the streets! I’m from the streets! I’m reppin' for all my ghetto niggaz man! This cracka think he can come here and extort hip hop! Hip hop is the streets! Angie Martinez: Is this cause he’s white? Why did you just use the word cracka? Benzino: Yo, forget you Angie!! He called me a woman and a b**ch in that interview with you, and you let him get away with it, so I have the right to call him a cracka! What's your problem?! Angie Martinez: But you’re using a racial slur here Ben. Benzino: So what? You know that white boy wants to call us niggas, but he won't do it cause that would be the end of his career! He’s dying to call us all niggaz, but he can't do that. I thought you was with me on this, and I’m sad to see that you not. That white boy obviously brainwashed you!. Angie Martinez: Brainwashed? I don’t appreciate that at all Ben. You need to accept the fact that people don't agree with you. Benzino: But the streets do AGREE with me!! Angie Martinez: But a lot of people don't, and you need to understand that! Benzino: I do understand that. Bottom line is this white boy don't know nothing about the streets. And if he’s listening, we can fight anywhere… Denmark, Alaska, Detroit. Set it up and I’ll destroy you. Angie Martinez: What about some people saying that you’re dissing Em to boost your record sales? Benzino: C’mon now, let me say this… ya boy Ben is financially set. I don't need to do this hip hop thing anymore. Angie, we both from the same label (Elektra). You know how I get down. True, I never sold any records, but it ain't about rap to me. It’s about connecting with the hood and the streets. I don't know nothing about fame and being arrogant. I’m with my people and the hood. People who know me knows that Benzino is the realest nigga they know. This dude ain't even from Detroit. Okay so he’s from some trailer park, but he don't know nothing about the streets. He don't know how it feels about going outside and worrying that somebody might shoot you. Angie Martinez: But he never talks about that in his rhymes Ben… Benzino: (not even listening to Angie anymore, just babbling away, and heated) He don't know anything about us. What does he talk about? About his slut of a wife who f*cks every dude? About killing his mom's? He can say whatever he wants, but nobody will stop him cause he’s white. Angie Martinez: Nobody stops him? What about the thousands of activists who tried to shut him down? Benzino: (ignoring her) This dude is wack. He’s stealing hip hop from us, from the streets. Angie Martinez: I’m sorry Ben, but Em is one of the nicest in the game. The kid is nasty. Benzino: (shocked) That's cause he brainwashed you! Angie Martinez: laughs whatever man Benzino: Look at this. You obviously on his side. Compare this interview to his interview, and you obviously on his jock. He was talking all that shit about me, and all you did was giggle. Angie Martinez: Ben, I’m not your babysitter dog. You came at him, so he responded. I’m not here to defend you or Em. Benzino: But throughout that interview, you kept on referring to me as ‘that dude’. What the hell was that about Angie?!? Angie Martinez: laughs What are you talking about? Benzino: Why didn’t you call me by my name? Why you callin' me ‘that dude’? Why are you on his side?! Angie Martinez: You can’t be serious Ben. I called you by your name at least 40 times, and you’re gettin' mad at the times when I said ‘that dude’? Angie: Yes, I went out and bought Em’s album because I love him as an artist. I think all of his albums were dope. He’s nice. Benzino: : as hell:: Nice?! Him? Compared to who?? I know thousands of street niggaz who’s better that can't even get a deal because of this white boy! Angie Martinez: So what about the people who worked with him? Benzino: SELLOUTS!! But anybody who agrees with this kid has to have other motives, like wanting to be on his album. That's gotta be it. Angie Martinez: laughs What about the idea that you might be wrong? Benzino: I can’t see it, cause it is what it is. Angie Martinez: What about Dre? Benzino: Dre is a great producer, but his street credibility is real shaky right now. I don't even think he f*cks with Em anymore. Angie Martinez: Have you ever listened to any of his albums Ben? Benzino: Heeeell no. I don't listen to that trash. I listen to real hip hop.. Scarface, Jay, Nas, Mobb Deep. That's street hip hop. This f**got dyed his hair blonde, took a bunch of blonde white kids at the VMA’s and he’s stealing hip hop. He even said that in his rhymes… ‘I use black music to make myself wealthy heeey’. You didn't hear that shit? He’s extortin' us yo! I can't believe y'all are gettin' brainwashed like this!! Angie Martinez: laughs Benzino: See, you laughing now. But we’ll see who's laughing in 10 years. I can't believe y'all are sleeping on this guy. Y'all laughing now, but soon y'all won't have any deals, and this game won't even be in our hands anymore, and we’ll be suckers…just like Elis Presley stole rock ands roll from blacks. When that happens, then we’ll see who laughs. Angie Martinez: Ben, don't be mad at me- Benzino: That's why the Source is a great thing. The Source will be here forever. Even when most niggaz are gone, The Source will still be here. Angie Martinez: Let's not bring the source in here Ben.. Benzino: Why not? Don’t you wanna be in The Source Angie? Angie Martinez: laughs I dunno, The Source doesn't like me, so it doesn't matter to me at all. I don't care. Benzino: Bottom line is, these white people are stealing from us! Why is he selling so many units?! Answer me that! Angie Martinez: Because he appeals to a lot of people. Benzino: Appeals to who?!? Angie Martinez: To people like myself, a young Puerto Rican woman. Benzino: AHHH!! Angie Martinez: Yeah, and to a lot of white people of course. Benzino: But how come Scarface don't sell that many units?? Or Mobb Deep? Angie Martinez: Ben, you gotta realize that a lot of people appeal with Em, mostly white people. They'd don't appeal to Scarface. This is a business. If you want your product to sell, you need to appeal to the masses. That's why there's so many party records out there. More people appeal to Em and his struggle than they appeal to the hardcore street things that you talk about. Don't be mad at Em. The way I look at it, if you’re gonna try to hate on Em, don't target all your hate on him… hate the whole system. But all you’re doing is putting all your attention on one single person.
11:34 - What he said here is exactly what he really did. Him being white as he's one of the best rappers around is the reason why we got so many white fans and many white rappers. He really did opened the doors for a lot white people that love his music as fans and those who became rappers themselves thanks to him being a huge impact. Without Eminem we sure never would have even heard of Machine Gun Kelly, Chris Webby, Asher Roth, YelaWolf, Rittz, G-Eazy. Macklemore, Action Bronson, Lil Dicky, Post Malone, Mac Miller all those who're around today are here because of Eminem. The Beastie Boys were the original white pioneers of hip-hop as great that they were and of course there was also Vanilla Ice but I wasn't really into his stuff and there on we get House of Pain and many few others but Eminem will forever be the all time greatest white rapper that got to be in hip-hop.
If ur interested in any other white rappers i recomend folowing El-p 7L Aesop rock Yak ballz Mr hyde Mr eon Cage Copywrite Necro Ill bill Exlib Vinnie paz Goretex Captain carnage
@@toigodgohdgjdfjkkj9878 I don't mess with many really I'll still play some Yelawolf from time to time, and the one white rapper I listen from this generation is Merkules who is from Canada he's really good. I'm definitely a fan of Necro
Your not even from this country so your theory doesn't even count. If you love & respect hip hop & know the history you won't make it about race. It's just like Martin luther king said, don't judge a man on his color or race, but by the content in a person. So whites could say the same about basketball, because a white man fouded & came up with the rules. Music isn't supposed to be about skin color or race. That's south & Grey coat mindset.
@realeliigilbert your not black or Puerto Rican, or Jamaican, or Mexican. So what's your point Goof ball. You use a black person name, but yet you can't even go to your page. Are you afraid to be yourself.
@@michaelatencio2917 wtf are you talking about? I never said hip-hop was about race but a lot of people make it about race cause nobody likes the idea of Eminem making hip hop because he is white. You don’t even know man and I was born in America whether you care or not. I’m a black man born and raised in California. Don’t get it twisted dude, cause you looking at the picture differently from what I said as you are seeing it in a negative perspective. What I said is me pointing out that Eminem is white as I know he belongs in hip-hop not for the color of his skin but for his skills as an artist, seriously what you going on about?
@@siphomaleka4681 Initially yes, when Eminem made Infinite back in '96, a few people back then even told Em jokingly to make rock-n-roll instead of rap, and Em was rightfully furious about it and made the Slim Shady EP as a result, which also got Dr. Dre's attention, and the rest is history at this point.
That comment about it not being about the money seems to be a theme. Check out the booklet in loyal to the game album, Afeni Shakur says this too. Everybody always asked her for a 2Pac beat or some money for a project, but she says Em never asked for a penny and wouldn't accept anything she offered him. He does stuff for the good of hip-hop and not to line his own pockets. he could have easily charged Jay and Nas for his beats but he didn't. The Moment of Clarity beat he did for Jay is dope as fuck too!!!
@markhenry8267 U mean when he was 16 years old?? Yeah bc no one has ever said some stupid shit when they were 16 lmao. Not to mention that he's apologized for it a million times. If everyone was judged for what they said as a teen we would ALL be fucked.
Great interview but this old back in 02,03 the sauce and nail in a coffin. This was way back when. Em won’t bring his name up probably never again Nevertheless, this was an epic time when the whole shady, aftermath gunit camp was straight fire 🔥
In a weird way Eminem actually did make Ja Rule so much damn $$$$. In the sense that he popularized Hip Hop in such a huge way that by the time Ja came around, no way someone as mediocre as him would become as popular as him without Eminem's help to the music genre.
For people like me who were wondering when this interview is from: he got 2 years probation in early 2001. He says it's 2 months left of it. Plus "Nail in the Coffin" was released in November 2002. So this must be early 2003, probably February.
@@sonnysamra8733 honestly I don't even think there would be much of a difference I think there would be more lyrical rappers but I feel like there was still be Mumble rappers and all these little brats with success for no reason
Your song is No.1 today... That's a beautiful thing. How do you decide who you respond to? If I get 10 people coming to me on the street saying why is such & such dissin' you, if it gets to the point where I hear it everywhere I go. But this woman here, she is done... she is outta my life. (the rest of the interview that was cut off)
9:28 THANK YOU!!! I've been telling people that Zino muscled his way into being the co-owner of The Source. He didn't build the magazine from the ground up with Dave Mays; he bullied his way in! He went from Dave Mays managing RSO to making Mays put in 3-page ads for mediocre Made Men albums. Busta took the high road with Z recently, but real ones know the truth about Zino and Mays. Ask Kim Osorio.
em - i will not diss him again 20 years later disses him again benzino is wack but his new diss was better than ems new diss. facts. No excuses. em lost this one.
Hip hop is in a Spiritual Place now 2022 It's about letting the spirit work through you and making quality music like Rap God.. It's not about black and white anymore, people that are still stuck in that place. Don't forget where hip hop came from but let it evolve in to a more beautiful place. Benzino ain't even close to Eminem as a rapper, that's real.
He was speaking at the time which was in December 2002 when this interview happened. You can't go by the times now. Eminem even said 50 Cent almost made him retire from rapping in 2002 after Eminem heard 50 Cent's song Places To Go and Eminem even says it on G-Unit's mixtape God's Plan in the first track Words From Eminem
How is it this shit is being brought up again?? If you don't already know about this shit and never heard the diss tracks that are literally almost 20yrs old your not hip hop.
@@romant142 yea because bumzino is a broke thirst ball looking for a check..and Em isn't even entertaining that shit at all. He already bodied that dub.
Ay man, I know em was allegedly on drugs at this point. But if that's the case, why does he speak with so much more clarity, confidence, charisma, and is just more concise? He acts all awkward and stutters like crazy now. I can't watch any clips of him post 2003 without cringing.
Because he's not on drugs that why... Drugs give you charisma & confidence to not give a fuck unfortunately. it kinda numbs your feelings on certain thing... and plus at this time proof was alive i think..
They did back then too...the smart ones anyway. Stores, Record Companies, Real Estate etc...Cam'ron didn't drop an album in 2 years before he signed to Roc and prolly made more money off his side hustles than he did off his firs two albums in those 2 years
Also playing both sides ain't about a side hustle... The Source at one point was the Hip Hop Bible... one of the biggest selling magazines in the world. Highly respected in the industry... You can't have a biased artist giving ratings to himself, people he fucks with ornpeople he don't like. Journalism needs to be uncensured and unbiased as possible, regardless of the content. One of the reasons our country is currently fucked because 99% of all media outlets are owned by 6 corporations that all have special interests and agendas behind them.
Not true necessarily... Rock stars/bands have fought and had "beef"... there were sly disses in songs between guys. But def nothing to the level or rap
