As a result of watching your vids on this topic, I purchased a new Blues Deluxe, and put a Swamp Thang in it. What an awesome combo. The amp is now the best sounding amp I've owned. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I emailed you a few days ago for your suggestions on speakers and I ended up ordering Eminence's Cannabis Rex for my AC15. Thanks for your input and for introducing me to this great company!

I have a Texas Heat in my Peavey Classic 30. It's a monster of an amp now

That swamp thing should be stock on that amp. It seems like everyone even manufacturers forget about the speakers and just slap in plain speakers.

Regarding comparing speakers maybe shoot for an end result like trying to dial in a song that has a classic sound everyone knows and then a song at the other end of the spectrum. Thus trying to get the speakers to sound like some thing third party. So adjusting the EQ would just be a tool in the comp.

shane that texas heat is gonna become fuller the more you use it , you gonna love it when it breaks in, i use one in a 112 blackstar ext cab and a eminence redcoat govenor in a blackstar ht 40 venue top , got a lot more blackstar gear,, but this is a serious blues rig , i took celestion 70/80 speakers out and improved it . i have used the texas heat in a fender hotrod deluxe same results /enjoy

I just read that, much better than the reg. ones.

Seems like 80-90% of the current speaker replacements I read about are with an Eminence Ragin Cajun. So your choices of Swamp Thang/Texas Heat is interesting. I'm a novice player, so for myself I chose an Eminence Legend as a suitable replacement in a Fender solid state amp.

Hey Shane. Just wanted to share my experience. I picked up an Acoustic g100t combo which should come stock with the electrovoice evm12L but was swapped at some point for the texas heat. I really liked the texas heat, it worked well in the 100 watt tube setting and also in my blues junior. I found the blues junior to really come alive with that speaker, more full and less trebly to my ears. But curiosity was too much for me and I had to get the evm12l. Not sure if you have ever tried one, but they are a beast and will just blow you away. I believe speakers make huge impacts on amps vs mods, however it's hard to just shell out cash on speakers to just try them out and hope for the best. Another thing I noticed was the WGS celestion clone speakers are very good. Actually did some AB tests with a friend against my vintage 30 and g12h30. The WGS to our ears, hands down were the better speakers and half the cost. Take care!

What is the best speaker for a 5 watt Fender- going for that Princeton Reverb tone.

Hey shane.....can you do an explanation on matching heads /combos with replacement speakers re wattage /ohms e.g. 22w combo so what wattage speaker to choose 30/50/100w? Fyi I use a DV mark 6l6 lil 40 with a 1x12 cab with a eminence RWB,,,,,sounds killer....

I agree Shane, speakers are huge when it comes to tone mods. The internal mods that I have done in the past and have seen others do are the ones that give flexibility. A speaker changes your voice, but if you want to keep changing your voice, for say lots of varying tonality in a cover band, that's where an internal mod could be an advantage. After owning many different Mesa boogie's and Rivera amps with lots of switches and push pull pots, I have found the Fender Mustang to be the best at covering a large varying tonal pallet. Speaker changes are probably the only mod I would ever do in the future.

Hi Shane - What did you feel were the main advantages of the Swamp Thang over the Texas Heat? Also, do you believe one would be better at cutting through the mix of a large band than the other? Thank you! Great videos!

I would love for you to do a blind test with Swamp thang vs a Two Rock amp :) (I am trying to get close to that two rock clean sound by changing my speaker)

You ever go for Alnico speakers? I put Weber Alnicos into 2 of my blues juniors. They work well.

Hey Shane, Love your videos man! you seem like a real cool cat. What's your thoughts of the Swamp Thang - speaker in a- 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb RI. I currently have the older stock Fender eminence. I find it too shrill with my tele at times.

Have you tried changing speakers in your Mustang? Have you tried a Cannabis Rex yet?
@warrentrucks09
@warrentrucks09 9 лет назад
I REALLY wanted to try one of those Rex's in my M3 but they are only rated at 50 watts so....I put a Swamp Thang in and it was okay but not what I wanted....GREAT speaker thou.... Anthony at Eminence sent me a Texas Heat and it's a keeper.:-) Sounds very similar to the Celestion GT100 but with a little more bottom end and mids too but the highs are smoothed out for a very balanced tone and seems to work well in that small cabinet too. But speakers are such a personal choice it really only matters to the players ears.... That said, I put 2 Swamp Thangs in my M4 and I absolutely LOVE them in that amp....:-)

Alot of players are always on the hunt for the illusive ideal tone. Sadly, they never properly learn how to use their volume and tone knobs.

Dang Bro, how many Red Bulls do you drink in a day? LOL I hope Diabetes doesn't run in the family. I'll have to get the Doc to have a talk with ya ;-) Get up with Eminence & get their Tone Center like The Tone King has :-) It is a 4x12 but you only play through One speaker at a time. Great for Demoing speakers. Ask TK who to contact at Eminence.
@warrentrucks09
@warrentrucks09 9 лет назад
Cabinet sound is also VERY important. You can try a speaker out like you state to narrow down your choices but in your specific cabinet it will sound quit differently if its not the same cabinet (ie in a huge 4x12 cab vs a small deluxe sized 1x12 cab) so he is correct in that you really need to install the speaker and gig it hard to hear/feel the difference. Anthony Lucas at Eminence can hook you up with anything you might want or need.
